Foreigner here. Building on a bare lot in Metro South Cavite. Help.
Hi everyone! We’re planning to build a house on a bare residential lot inside a subdivision in Metro South Cavite. The lot is currently empty, so we’re trying to understand all the utility and subdivision-related costs before construction starts.
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has recently built in Cavite especially within a subdivision.
How much did you pay for temporary Meralco electricity and the eventual permanent connection?
How much was the water connection and was it easy to apply while the lot was still empty?
How much was the construction bond, and did you get it back in full?
Any advice or recent costs would be appreciated. Thank you!
Fell in love with Moroccan craftsmanship, now wondering if this idea is possible
We recently went to Marrakech with my family, and I completely fell in love with the architecture, culture, art, and craftsmanship. I was especially struck by how skilled Moroccan artisans are, and it got me thinking about a wild idea. My husband and I are building a house in the Philippines, and I keep wondering whether it would be possible to hire Moroccan artisans to help bring an authentic Moroccan touch to parts of the home.
I’m not talking about replacing a local contractor, I would absolutely still hire one in the Philippines. I’m more wondering if anyone has ever brought in Moroccan artisans to their country for specialty work like plaster, tile, woodwork, metalwork, or decorative details? I know this might sound a little out there, and maybe it’s not practical, but I’m curious whether people think this is actually possible or a completely unrealistic idea. Has anyone ever done something similar, where you were so inspired by the craftsmanship in one country that you wanted to bring that influence into a home you were building somewhere else?

Mortgage Process
Hi everyone, we’re hoping to hear from people who have actually gone through the mortgage process in Spain, especially if you were self-employed and buying in Málaga.
My husband and I are planning to buy a house in Málaga and apply for a mortgage, but we’ve been told different things and we’re struggling to understand the best timing.
One bank told us we would need 3 years of tax returns and business documentation, while another told us 2 years is enough. Banco Sabadell’s public mortgage documentation for self-employed applicants mentions the two most recent tax returns, but also says additional documents may be requested, so we’re unsure what is actually being applied in practice.
We were also told that if we buy now as non-residents, we may still be able to apply using our foreign bank and tax documentation. At the same time, we were told that if we become Spanish residents first, the bank may then require at least 2 years of Spanish tax documentation before approving the mortgage.
A gestor advised us that becoming residents first could be better because residents can often access up to around 80% financing, while non-residents are more commonly limited to around 60% to 70%, depending on the bank and profile.
So this is our main question: has anyone here become a resident in Spain and then successfully gotten a mortgage soon after, or did you really have to wait 2 years to build Spanish tax history first?
We are at a crossroads and trying to figure out whether it is better to buy now as non-residents, or become residents first and risk delaying the purchase.
If you’ve gone through this personally, especially in Málaga or with Sabadell or another Spanish bank, we’d really appreciate hearing what documents were required, whether 2 or 3 years were needed, and how residency status affected your timing.
Thank you so much.

ex faang ae, ran a sales agency. what non-AI industry closes $200k–$1m+ deals that i can do remotely?
ex faang ae here, also ran a sales agency. back in consultancy now, pays good, like 15 hrs/week but i'm bored. miss the adrenaline of closing big deals. last big ones i've closed? two 7-digit medical device deals in a us state (won't say where), both at 5% comms, closed 100% remotely. that's the rush i'm missing. i've done medical devices, saas, and fintech. what are you actually doing right now that's paying you this much? what vertical, what company, what deal sizes? and can it be done remotely?
Moving to Spain in a couple months via family reunification visa — is autónomo the only option for part-time consulting (~€50k/year)?
I'm moving to Spain in a couple months via a family reunification visa (so the Digital Nomad Visa doesn't apply). I do part-time consulting roughly 10h/week and make around €50k/year.

I'm thinking of registering as an autónomo, but I'm wondering is there any other work path aside from autónomo for someone on family reunification?

I've read that taxes + social security could take almost half of my earnings.

Thanks in advance — any advice or experiences would be super helpful!
Any good boxing coaches or tennis groups around Dubrava/Maksimir?
Hey all! I’m looking for recommendations for a boxing club or coach and
a tennis group around Dubrava or Maksimir area. Mainly looking for a good atmosphere, solid coaching, and something beginner-friendly or at least welcoming. Anyone here tried any of them or knows a good group/coach nearby?
