Moving to QC from TX

My wife and 11 year old son (and dog) are moving to Bettendorf at the end of the month from West Texas.

I landed a wonderful government civilian job with First Army that I couldn't turn down. This move also puts us 2.5 hours from my family and hometown of Madison Wisconsin so that's priceless.

My son will attend pleasant valley middle school as a 6th grader. My wife is seeking NP roles within adult geriatric acute care settings (after her Iowa license is obtained).

We have a home locked down on Zillow right now. We look to move on it as soon as our current home sells which it likely will in a few days. Our neighbors have made a cash offer to buy the home so that was amazing to have that done so fast and easy without even listing it or anything.

We are an active family that travels allot, likes fitness, likes dining out, likes wine, likes cultural events and festivals. I have done considerable freelance writing on food and wine as well over the years and look to continue doing so in the QC.

I am very familiar with the upper Midwest winters as a born and raised Wisconsinite. Wife being a native Texan, not so much. Will see how that goes.

Nervous about the 1100 mile 3-day drive up there, packing up the house, and setting up the new house, all while starting a new job, getting a kiddo in school, and helping wife land a new job, all at the same time.

Once those parts fall into place, we both feel this will be a very positive and needed move/fresh start for our family and our careers.

Hope to meet many of you locals soon after we arrive!

West Texas to Quad Cities: Thoughts?

Have a possible job offering coming my way in about 2 weeks if all goes well.

I live in West Texas right now and have for 6 years come October 1 this year. Its a town of 100k people. San Angelo. Rural area we live in. We like it yes but not a place we will stay for good. My wifes home town in 45 minutes away and all her family live around here also. My son also goes to a great school here, he is 11, 6th grade next year.

Context:

I make $63k now working remote in a telehealth job I really do not much care for at all. Need to get out and soon. I am looking at a job in Rock Island doing far my applied training with US Army Reserve. It will pay right around $100k with benefits.

My wife works as a community college instructor and makes $77k and likes her job, great work life balance as well. She would of course need to quit her job and find new work in either nursing (her primary career field is being an NP) or something in nursing education as she does now.

I m a born and raised Wisconsinite mind you, lived there 23 years before moving away so the upper Midwest is not new to me at all. Still got family in Madison for that matter. This move puts me within 3 hours drive of my hometown so that is a plus for me but a drawback for wife and son of course being as far as they have ever been from their folks.

Ironically the city we live in now has similar factors as Davenport (the area I am looking at most) with low cost of living, major water issues etc.

I am no stranger to cold and winters up there, wife and son not so much. My son seems to like the cold/snow when we do ever get it, my wife however hates it. She is however open to the idea of us moving to the area if I did get a job offer.

Again, we like it here, she likes her job, we like having most her family near by, my son is in a good school, summers are hot as balls for 5 straight months and that gets damn old fast so we could go without that. We are 3.5 hours from any major city other than Abilene (90 minutes) which is truly no bigger than we are, it just has more to do there. We have 1 small regional airport (2 gates only) with stupid high prices for flights from the 1 airline we do have (American).

I want this job in Rock Island really badly, its what I was doing before my current job I have now and loved it! I cannot find anything like it around this part of Texas since ending that term a year ago. I took my current remote job mostly just to have a paying job with benefits that did not require a move of the family. Sadly, its sucking my soul away by the week with low pay and 9 hour days in front of a computer ALL DAY. Not my jam at all.

Ask:

Given all this, what would some of you advise? Assuming an offer does come, would you suggest taking it or passing given what you all know about Davenport and Quadcities?

Math components?

For the PMP, how much of the math related aspects did you encounter on the PMP exam?

Particularly for the critical path method, how elaborate was the pathways? How deep did the question get?

Second, for cost management, how many questions about variables like CPI, SPI, VAC, ETC, EAC, TBIC did you encounter?

Are any of the cost management equations given to you or is that all needed to be memorized?

I am pretty good with general math and arithmetic but I want to know how much time and detail to put in to these aspects of my study.

Great places to eat in town

Dishes from our mother's day brunch at Urban Salt Kitchen and Bar. All very good! Always pleased when we come here. I got the chimichuri steak and cilantro lime rice. Spot on delicious.

PMBOK 7th Edition

How do I get hold of the PMBOK 7th edition? I got the 8th edition as part of my new PMI membership but I am testing on June 30th which will still use the 7th edition content outline.

When I try and get the 7th from PMI it says I need to wait until my renewal period to get that edition.

Suggestions?
