Hi all,
I run a small YouTube channel with Darktable tutorials , mostly for people moving over from Lightroom. I’m working on a video about emulating the Black Pro-Mist look in post, and I’d like to be upfront that it’s an approximation, not a replacement for the real filter.
I don’t own a Pro-Mist, so I have nothing real to compare my edits against. Could anyone who has one help me out?
What would help most:
What I’ll do with them:
Thanks!
Hey all,
I run a small YouTube channel, Marien Photography, with English tutorials on Darktable, aimed at people moving over from Lightroom. I've just launched a newsletter to go with it.
You've missed issue #1, but you can subscribe now and get the next ones.
The whole channel is also there to binge: https://www.youtube.com/@mariengb
Newsletter: https://mariengb.com/newsletter
It's free, no paywalls, and the whole workflow is open source. Questions and topic requests are welcome
Hi !
I'm continuing to work on some Youtube videos but I am wondering if you would be also interested into a newsletter? It would cover what I cover in the videos and some extras.
I put together a very ugly signup form.
https://mariengb.com/newsletter/
Feel free to register and I'll see how much people could be interested.
Have a nice week-end!!
I played again with Color Balance RGB to start the Autumn season.
I experimented with a long format where you can tag along and edit the image at the same time.
Let me know what you think
I continue my serie on basics as the previous ones got a lot of interest.
Feel free to leave a comment on the video.
I continue my basics serie. Let me now what you want to see next :)
I continue on the basics for this month that everyone is back to school ! Let me know if you have any question.
For this time of year I decided to go back to basics for the next videos.
15 Subs to go! Thanks !!!
Bug-fix release on top of 5.6.0 — no major new features, but solid fixes: AI denoise/upscale now handles more raw types without crashing (ProRAW, 4-Bayer sensors, sRaw), metadata carries over properly to denoised images, mask feathering and blending bugs are fixed, and there's better stability on AMD/Mesa and small systems.
Full changelog: https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/tag/release-5.6.1
Not planning a dedicated video on this one since it's mostly under-the-hood fixes, but wanted you to know it's out — worth updating.
You can still find me videos on my channel https://youtube.com/@mariengb and subscribe if you want to help me reach the 1K subscribers - still missing 50 subs 😉
After my video on batch export where I quickly spoke about watermarking here I deep dive into the watermarking module.
Let me know if you use the parametric part and how?
Back to work, let's keep a little bit of the summer vibes on :)
Fully aware most of you are on a beach right now and the last thing on your mind is Darktable's export panel. Respect. Posting this for the 3 of you who, like me, apparently can't fully switch off from photo workflow even in August.
Quick one: if you're batch exporting a shoot, you can non-destructively watermark the exported copies using a Style, without touching your actual edit — so you get a clean version AND a watermarked version from the same edit, zero extra work. Also solves batch renaming at the same time via the export filename variables.
Just got back from a shoot with way more photos than I want to edit one at a time ? Quick trick if you're in the same boat:
Edit one photo fully, copy its history stack (lighttable panel), select the rest of the batch, paste. Same edit applied to all of them in seconds.
Bonus: you can selectively paste just certain modules (white balance, exposure) instead of everything, so you can batch the ones that match and hand-fix the outliers instead of redoing the whole shoot.
For those of you that like to experiment multiple treatments of a RAW - I'm sure it will help you keep you hard drive and lighttable clean !
If you have tried multiple of my presets for B&W for example it is a good way to keep the different versions without multiplying the RAW data!
After my Color Balance RGB video a few of you asked about the new Color Harmonizer module — u/Illustrious-Pool-760 especially. Here you go.
This one fought me. Three attempts before I was happy with it. The key thing that finally made it click: auto-detect picks the harmony your image is already closest to, so it barely moves anything. Rotating the anchor hue manually is where the actual control lives.
I go through the controls, harmonise a muted street scene, show custom mode creating colour contrast instead, and cover the limits honestly.
Module created by Daniele Pighin (@Masterpiga) and shaped by the pixls.us community.
Still learning this one, so corrections welcome.
Based on the recents comments on my previous video on summer looks that was not explaining enough the how - I put together this video during the week-end. Hope you will like it.
Summer is coming - I decided to share my presets to apply on your best memories. Please leave me your comments.
Coming from a comment on my video about AgX and skin I decided to share how I convert digital images to B&W and even included a bonus with some presets to download.
