"oh but she doesn't get paid a whole lot from streaming so it's okay to support her !" - may I present to you: a simple breakdown and math

I've seen crybabies and even former mutuals of mine say that because she doesn't get paid a lot from streaming platforms (spotify, apple, etc.), it's okay to still stream her music. here's why that's not the case.

example used: spotify

average payout per stream: $0.003-$0.005 (lowest: $0.001-$0.002 per stream)

melanie martinez gets about 4.1 million streams per day (on average)

now I know the actual amount she'd get paid is based on subscription cost and location, but let's go with $0.003 per stream for this example

4.1 million streams multiplied by $0.003 per stream = $12,300 per day

$12,300 x 30 days = $369,000

$369,000 x 12 30-day periods (or roughly 12 months) = $4,428,000

too many people see what streaming platforms pay per stream and assume that it's not a whole lot. this is just spotify btw.

there is no justification for supporting her (or hell, any other horrible artist), not even on streaming... and getting $4 million average per year is the reason why.

the lack of awareness from parents of crybabies is insane

just came across a video on instagram of a mom who took her daughter to see melanie for the first time and the amount of comments I saw from MOTHERS talking proudly about how they brought their underage kids to see a RAPIST made my stomach turn. WHEN are we gonna start paying attention to what our kids consume on a daily basis ???

I sound puritan as hell right now but grade school aged kids shouldn't be consuming melanie's content SOLELY on the basis that it's harmful to their development later on. especially when it's been proven multiple times from former fans that indulging in her music/art normalized the topics she wrote about, so much so that it circled back around to putting them in those dangerous situations (crybabies getting groomed, developing eds because of songs like mrs potato head and orange juice, not being able to see the warning signs of abusive behavior, etc.)

it's very telling how much of an impact (or lack thereof) melanie's "activism" actually has on her fanbase because all you see nowadays is them throwing slurs around like curse words, bodyshaming other fans, bullying each other (and others outside the fandom), harassing and doxxing people who don't like melanie, being every phobic and ist under the sun, bullying disabled fans and non-fans, etc... yet I'm supposed to believe that she's writing about these topics to educate people ?

something I've noticed

so I was talking to my gf the other day about how we've noticed that melanie's understanding of how consent works potentially stems from how she was raised (no duh, nellie...) and it made us both think about how after she came out as bisexual, she's never had any public or private relationships with women that we know of.

now what does this have to do with anything ?

take a look at how she writes about child sexual abuse, specifically in The Vatican. notice how she conflates predatory behavior with being closeted/gay, how if these predatory men would only accept their queerness, then they'd stop preying on young boys (which we all know that sexuality is not the primary factor, it's abuse of power and the fact that pedophilia is a PARAPHILIA, not a sexuality like being queer is). part of me wonders if the reason she doesn't believe she raped anyone is due to the fact that she was ALSO repressing her sexuality growing up, and with her growing up in a "traditional latin household" (her parents were BOTH christians), she was most likely taught from a young age to conflate homosexuality with predatory behavior to some degree.

now look at her relationships with women compared to men. the most you hear about her relationships with men are cheating scandals or whatever, but the women she's supposedly "hooked up with" (sa'd) have alleged coercive abuse. we've entertained the possibility that maybe melanie thought she was "experimenting" at the time and saw nothing wrong with how she manufactured consent from these women (begging them to have sex with her until they finally gave in), simply because of her understanding of how consent works. most of us (if our parents don't properly teach sex ed like they're supposed to, such as my parents) initially learned how to see rape/sa the way men perceive rape/sa: a stranger jumping out of the shadows, attacking a woman with a weapon, and raping her violently. coercion is never a part of the conversation until we're much older and this is precisely why parents NEED to be teaching children that NO means NO, that no is a complete sentence, and that you don't need to explain why the answer is no. majority of coercive sexual abuse cases start in the home, typically between a child and certain family members. some of you may have been coaxed into sexual contact by a parent or guardian through non-violent means (promising toys, giving candy, etc.) and have had trouble coming to terms with it BECAUSE it wasn't deemed "violent enough" to others.

sexual abuse doesn't have to be physically violent in order for it to be considered sexual abuse. it can be someone asking you over and over to have sex with you, making you feel bad for saying no or not being sure, reassuring you that "it'll be fun" and "it's not a big deal" if you go along with it... it can also be feeling obligated to fulfill someone's sexual desires in order to avoid conflict or the constant begging/guilt tripping behaviors. melanie martinez is a prime example of why it's important to teach your children early on what enthusiastic consent actually means when it involves intimacy of any kind, not just to avoid them falling victim to predators, but to make sure they're not the ones victimizing others as well.

I find it interesting how she makes songs like The Vatican talking about how men hide behind Christianity and stuff... but she hides behind the hippie astrology bullshit when it comes to how she treats people (like her "recommending" a healer to timothy when timothy NEVER EVEN NAMED HER when she mentioned being abused) and everything she does is exactly what a hippie would NOT do (unless you're talking about the white hippies who grew up in the upper/middle class and do nothing to actually give a shit about the planet or animals). it just comes across as fake asf and she didn't really start doing this shit until around 2016-17ish.

melanie martinez is once again lying to everyone's faces and people are falling for it

people keep claiming that she and oliver ended their relationship on "good terms" and that she didn't write any songs for portals about him, but this was what she said about the meaning of her song "EVIL" before she initially told her fans to leave him alone in 2023. if ANY of the speculation about their relationship only being for PR is true, I'm thinking her team AND his team approached her and said "hey, you need to clean this shit up because it's costing us money" and that's the reason why he's the only ex that she's ever publicly defended from her own fanbase. she hasn't even defended timothy like this (or at all) despite the fact that she's made SEVERAL songs that fans use as ammo against her.

imagine how timothy heller feels having to see her rapist on live television after she's tried for almost a DECADE to tell people that what she's experienced was real. imagine how she feels seeing her get all of these opportunities after she's had to give up her music career and public presence just to avoid further harassment from her abuser's fanbase. IMAGINE BEING A RAPE/SA SURVIVOR AND SEEING YOUR ABUSER THRIVE WHILE YOU'RE STILL TRYING TO COPE WITH AND MOVE ON FROM YOUR TRAUMA. who cares if someone in the paparazzi called her ass out ? THEY NEED TO DO IT MORE. SHE'S A PREDATOR AND A DANGER TO WOMEN/CHILDREN. she's been actively getting away with rape and glorifying abuse as a whole through her music while marketing herself to her underage fanbase as someone who "gets it" and claims to genuinely care about these issues. even recently she's been abusive in other ways (oliver tree/verde) and her fans simply don't care.

IF YOU FEEL PERSONALLY ATTACKED FOR SUPPORTING A RAPIST, MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE SUPPORTING A RAPIST.

melanie martinez has dissed her victims in more songs/media than just "piggyback"

by "diss" I don't mean just within the lyrics; I am also referring to songs that are used as ammunition against timothy and maddie even when they aren't explicitly/implicitly about them, songs and videos being released on specific days that correlate with the allegations (i.e. fire drill being released on june 26, 5 years after timothy's assault), unreleased songs, etc.

the reason you can't separate the art from the artist when it comes to melanie martinez is because she uses her music to push the idea that she's been misunderstood, that she's actually the victim of this situation, etc. and she knows her fans will use it to further silence timothy and maddie. the only instances that she's said her music isn't about xyz were during the portals era, and she most likely only "cleared things up" because she and oliver tree are/were label mates.

this song is supposedly about bullying and internet culture/social media but it's pretty clear that some of these lyrics were written implicitly about her accusations. her fans use her anxiety disorder as justification for her first response to timothy's initial statements against her, and it's clear in a lot of her music post crybaby that she uses her anxiety as a means to make her seem smaller, more fragile, more of a "victim"...

  1. FIRE DRILL RELEASE DATE: JUNE 26, 2020

very few of her fans have clocked this, but the release date for this song on official streaming platforms is none other than june 26, 2020... aka, EXACTLY FIVE YEARS after timothy's assault. there is absolutely no way that wasn't intentional because melanie had PLENTY of time to choose a release date for this song (which she wrote and registered on BMI just mere MONTHS after she was accused) and she's known for putting easter eggs in her songs in general.

  1. DRAMA CLUB LYRICS

tbh the lyrics speak for themselves. this song was written sometime in 2016-17 for K-12 and it was leaked around 2018. her fans were VERY QUICK to assume this song was aimed at timothy and the other women who have come forward against her, and from an outside perspective some of the lyrics definitely allude to that ("you're faking all your pain, you're bleeding on a stage" "you're overanalyzing every word I say").

  1. BARELY JUICE LYRICS

this was (I believe) a portals outtake that got leaked in 2021. once again, fans were quick to assume the song was about timothy. the lyrics about chasing success are especially weird because one of the many reasons people don't believe timothy is due to the fact that sullivan sweeney/the crow pushed the narrative that timothy was simply itching to become famous (based off of joke posts she made in the early 2010s... I mean sure buddy whatever you say I guess 💀).

  1. ABSORB LYRICS

pretty sure this one leaked around the same time barely juice did but yeahhhh, this whole fucking song is so condescending and gross. I'm a firm believer that the reason melanie didn't want her unreleased music leaked was because most of her newer demos were about timothy to various degrees... and songs like this one prove that.

  1. LEECHES LYRICS

this song doesn't directly allude to any specific person or group, but fans still found a way to make this one about timothy and the others too because of the constant claiming that timothy only accused melanie to steal her spotlight and boost her own music career. this is also just another song where she makes herself seem smaller and paints herself as the victim of her circumstances.

  1. EVIL LYRICS

I don't see a whole lot of people using this against timothy specifically but let's be fr, nobody with a sound mind believes that this song isn't about oliver tree. she literally explained the meaning of this song when portals initially came out, how it was about her coming to terms with "feelings about her last relationship"... and at that time, she didn't date anyone else after oliver except for verde, who she was with at the time the album released. so my question is: why tf are you lying LMAOOOO

  1. SPIDER WEB MV RELEASE DATE: DECEMBER 4, 2024

another song about internet culture and how she doesn't wanna be perceived so much by strangers online, yawn... and look at that, ANOTHER release date that correlates with the rape accusations, EXACTLY SEVEN YEARS after timothy came forward. the only people she's fooling are either children or idiots in general.

I recently saw them on tour last thursday and if you're looking for a great alternative to melanie's music, they stand for everything she claims to stand for and they're super health conscious at their shows (masks are required at their shows to prevent illnesses including covid), plus their music is absolutely ethereal !
