What's the psychology behind having very possessive boy friends?

My roomie has a very possessive boyfriend and its really hard to see how much he controls her. He controls everything of her life from her under*ear to courses she picks in the university. I always try to explain it to her but nothing really works. This guy is micro managing her sometimes in really inappropriate ways which I can't explain here. Do you people have any idea of why this happens?

Update: I didn't ask this because I want to interfere of any shit. This girl is going through a hell of toxicity and crys over nights. I have to be the one who is always making her calm.

But this is the issue, EVERYTIME we ask this kind of a question, there are some men jump into it and justify men handling women. Kinda same vibe comes from the men who justify Anuradhapura child r*ape case. They are asking "if the child was ok with what monk did, why do you talk about it? Pathetic.

Why does no one pays enough attention to harassments in public transport?

I'm posting this question because this makes me so messed up when thinking about it. I truly wish these kinds of issues are spoken openly.

I'm a university student who is studying in a state university (out of Colombo). What I figured out while talking to my girl friends (I asked 20 girls in my batch), 16 out of them have faced any kind of sexually harassing situations just WITHIN LAST MONTH. Some even have faced them more than once. Their experience totally aligns with mine as well. Most cases are NOT typical gropings or rubbings, they are worse than that. I'm so mad and messed up that no one is talking about these.

Can you guys believe that I faced such messed up situations TWICE IN SAME DAY while on the way to university. I was worrying so much about whether it was my fault.. or maybe I was wearing something bad.. etc, that's why I asked my friends.

I know there are a lot of genuine guys who mind their own business in public transport. I truly respect them. But then there are an increasing number of psychos who.. I don't wanna use words coming to my mouth, but you get the idea.
