[COD] Hot take: E3N is one of the best characters in the franchise and he isn't even a human or a main character, and I think the side characters should deserve more love like Chernov, Gideon, Wallcroft, Griggs, etc.
People need to remember where we were in January.
If four months ago I told you we’d be in Round 2 of the Playoffs I would’ve been downvoted into oblivion. We were balls deep in a playoff drought and it was business as usual, we sucked. The fact that we’ve made it this far at all is beyond insane. We literally became good almost overnight. There are people in this subreddit right now who don’t even have cognitive memory of the last time the Sabres were this deep in the playoffs, or even in them at all. I get that losing sucks and it’s been a tough two losses but lighten the hell up. They haven’t even been at this level for an entire year yet and they’ve made it this far, and at the very least, these losses are going to be a hell of a learning experience.
Couldn’t believe it when I found it. Nightfire is no joke my favorite game of all time and never in all my life did I ever think I’d stumble upon this, old PC games complete in box seem hard enough to come by outside of the Sims and those cheap puzzle games. Absolute goldmine find for my personal collection.
I’ve been playing CoD online multiplayer since CTF on Eder Dam in Call of Duty 3 in 2006. I literally grew up with CoD, with the “golden age” happening right when I was about 11-15, and yes, it was a lot of fun.
There was also a lot of frustration, broken matchmaking, bad connection, and horrible gun balance.
This isn’t me saying those games were terrible, because they weren’t. They’re iconic, but a lot of what made those games iconic had to do with the zeitgeist games like CoD and Halo were going through at the time. An online console FPS in the late 00’s/early 2010’s was still relatively new at least on such a massive scale and the hype and the fact that everybody was playing it contributed greatly to people’s memory. MW1-BO2 are great games but there are a ton of flaws in each of them and a lot of the fundamental issues with CoD that we complain about now still existed back then. Yeah it was a magical time but the glazing is insane.
No, remaking MW2 or BO2 will not “save CoD.” I’d bet money even if they did remake it they’d screw it up, and even if they did remake one of the games pretty much 1:1 save for maybe better matchmaking, it would piss people off. Half the people who buy it would play it religiously through the honeymoon phase and drop it just like any other CoD, it’d probably outsell whatever CoD they’re currently putting out anyways and they’d never release a remake again. That’s why we haven’t gotten one past the CoD4 remaster.
Not to mention the golden era games were broken with lame stuff in them just like any other CoD. CoD4 had Frag x3, the M16, the ACOG on the M40 which made it a one shot even if you hit them in the foot, juggernaut, martyrdom, no way to shoot down UAV’s, and RPG x3.
In MW2 you could get a whole ass 25 killstreak nuke as soon as the game began if you knew exactly where to aim your noob tube, Commando meant people could stab you from 7-8 feet away, and there were plenty of guns like the ACR and the M4A1 which were literal laser beams with almost 0 recoil whatsoever. MW3 had stuff like the MP7, which can still rival any meta SMG in any modern CoD, the Type 95 which was just as bad if not even MORE powerful than the CoD4 M16 and was basically a one burst. WaW was basically a more broken CoD4 in every way with even worse matchmaking, less balance, more obnoxious perks, and the worst killstreak of all time in Artillery. I could go on. My point isn’t that these games suck, it’s that games people consider the best in the series still suffered from horrible balance and perks just like modern CoDs do. Bringing an old CoD into a modern light will just intensify those imbalances and having to balance the hell out of the game kinda proves my point.
TL;DR- A lot of people who are sitting here begging for a golden era remaster are huffing garbage bags full of copium if they think somehow Activision releasing a remake is going to somehow bring back all of the “magic” you remember from your childhood, when in reality you just wish you were a kid again and think that a BO2 remake will somehow make the rent bills go away. Sorry, not gonna happen. Even if the devs did bite the bullet and give you what you want, it’ll never be the same.
