"Eurrgh lad you stink of gravy!!"

Overheard in a restaurant with my family, when our food forst arrived we all went quiet for a bit cos we were starving. There were 2 guys at the next table chatting and we heard a snippet of their conversation.

Guy: One day he got into my van and I was like (disgusted face) "euuurgh lad you stink of gravy!!" He must of had his clothes out drying while his ma was making tea [tea = dinner in northern England]. So after that we all called him Bov cos he smelled of Bovril

Student house deposit deductions – how should I dispute them? (England)

I have just graduated from uni (Manchester) and in the last 2 years I lived in a house share with my friends. We paid a £550 deposit. We cleaned it before we left, although I will admit probably not to the standard I would've liked. The house was falling to bits the whole time we lived there (leaky shower leading to ceiling collapse and broken boiler, mould, unstable furniture, the list goes on).

They deducted £245 (£61.25pp) for cleaning and £80 (£20pp) for "domestic damages to lounge" (I have no idea what they are referring to, the only thing I can think of is that the curtain rail was broken the whole time we lived there but we reported this and they never fixed it). They then individually charged my friend £65 and me £75 for blue tack marks on our bedroom walls. Which simply are not there, I have photos of my room.

I am fuming. I want to dispute but first I want to enquire about the details of each of these. How should I go about this? I'm worried about wording it incorrectly and it coming back to bite me. If I dispute would they be able to dig up additional issues and try and deduct more?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Not quite nightmares but not very nice dreams – meaning?

Hi everyone!

For probably years now, my dreams have always been slightly miserable and I don't know why. My life is pretty much fine, I'm not depressed or anything, although I do think about death a lot due to the nature of recent experiences. My dreams used to be good vibes and usually funny, but now they're just slightly sad/stressful and always leave dream-me with a bad feeling. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me why they are the way they are? I'll tell you about some dreams I had last night so you understand.

For context, in my real life, I'm job hunting so I can afford to move, I visited my cousin's kid a few days ago, and sometimes my dad annoys me with the things he says lol.

In the first dream, I moved out into my own flat. Then I ended up having to take care of my cousin's kid in said flat. Then some kind of event happened near my flat, so like 100 people kept coming in and out and leaving litter all over the flat and I was really stressed out. I was also a terrible parental figure to the kid (can't really remember details), who told me as such, and our relationship was destroyed.

Later in a different dream on the same night, I was on holiday with my ex and every problem our relationship ever had IRL was just exacerbated x10. Later on, I was walking with my dad on some sand dunes and he said something that irritated me so we argued a bit and I walked ahead. When I looked back, I saw him fall down the sand dunes and die/get fatally injured. Then I woke up bc wtf???

Any insight about why I might always be having these bad dreams would be appreciated. Thank you!

UK SLT graduate needing advice - alternative jobs in an abysmal SLT job market

Hi everyone!

I graduate next month and have been on-and-off job hunting over the past few months. I consider myself to be a relatively high performing student (especially on placement) with good applications but so far haven't had much luck. The jobs are really competitive and there's not many of them.

I need a job (obviously) and don't want to be hanging around unemployed who knows how long, so was thinking I might have more luck getting a non-SLT job that's still relevant to SLT (for instance, I know support workers/carers are in high demand right now, although I'm not sure I'd love that). I'm hoping having this experience would help me stand out a bit more from other new graduates as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what jobs could be useful to apply for to tide me over? In terms of my SLT career path, I'm interested in aphasia/stroke, but generally I'm not picky and could see myself getting into pretty much anything.
