Played warhammer fantasy back in the day. Was the game that got me into playing miniature games.

Back then I played highelves and empire. Still have some of the figures.

However I find it difficult to figure out, what is currently good and bad. And before jumping to much into the classical "play what you like the look at"

For me. The look part have never really been a big factor. Like options and fun playstyles more.

I know that GW normally are not the best at keeping a good balance between armies compared to other out there.

I am not looking for a "win by choocing this army" nor " lets make it hard for myself army" just something where I can win battles and not just loose or being "that guy"

I am fairy open to what armies to play. I am looking for something less hero hammer with huge beasts and no normal looking army stuff. And more into something with infantry blocks, support units and such. I do not mind 1 or 2 cool big center pieces. But would not want it to be only that thoughout the army

I could go high elves. But worry that elite high cost low toughness will feel less forgiving to be honest.

Empire sounds like they got some issues currently.

Britonia could be cool. But do they use their block formation units in practice. Or is it more woops, all calvary

Dwarves. Could see the fun of high toughness guys with range support. But worry about the low speed

Warriors of chaos looks sweet. But do they have any prober range weapons? Or is it just run, charge and same battle plan each battle?

Cathay looks very cool. But seem to be the most commonly played where I live. So in order to avoid it being cathay all day in evervy battle... proberly something else.

A friend have some beastmen he is willing to sell cheap. But do not know how they play
