Adopting dogs when you have young children?

Hi all. My little dog recently died. I'm not ready to get another (very much still in the randomly crying phase) but my house feels so empty without a dog and my routine is all out the window.

I wanted to look at rescuing a dog this time, but I have two children (5 and 3 in a couple of weeks). Almost all the rescues I've looked at don't even consider you if your kids are this young. I get why, to an extent, but it seems that even if the dog is super gentle and friendly, they automatically put 10+ or 12+ in the adoption requirements.

Does anyone know any rescues that do consider families with kids? My kids are super gentle and would never be left alone with the dog ever. We're based in the Pennines and would be willing to travel.

Got stinkeye from a Jackdaw this morning

Heard a thump onto the bench at the front of our house. Looked outside and discovered a Jackdaw fledgling (I think, they had a fluffy chest) had fallen onto the bench.

They were fine, squawked and hopped around for about 10 minutes. Then gave me this look and flew off 😂 Like they thought it was my fault they fell.

Octopus Go and Audi Etron - help!

We bought a secondhand E-Tron a few months ago. I swear it was not worth the hassle.

The biggest issue we've found is that the Audi app keeps interrupting the Octopus app for charging. Sometimes that means the car doesn't get charged at all.

Does anyone have any ideas for how we can stop this happening? Every time I get the "something went wrong!" error on the Octopus app, it genuinely makes me want to just sell the car.

Does anyone know why the canal in 'Boro was so low today? I assume it's related to the flood defence work that's been going on, but haven't been able to find anything about it.

Asking because I'm a nosy parker, and also because I'm slightly miffed that I might not be able to see the wee ducklings that hatched this week when I walk my kids to school if there's no water 🤦🏻‍♀️

I feel so stupid writing this, but here goes. I'm unmedicated and struggling to get my ADHD diagnosis (UK based in an area with no shared care plans available so I can't even get a private diagnosis because I couldn't afford ongoing care).

Ever since I can remember, I've picked my scalp, but since I've had my kids, I am SO much worse with it. I've now got two bald spots and I'm in constant pain. Which makes me pick more. It's the worst vicious circle.

I'm currently crying in the bathroom because I've made my head bleed so badly that my son noticed it. He's 5. He was genuinely worried that I was hurt.

I'm at my wit's end. I'm open to ANYTHING that works. Please can someone help me 😭

Things I've already tried:

- hair tied up (I just picked through the hair)

- short nails (didn't slow me down at all)

- hat on (just took it off to pick)

- fidget toys (honestly had no impact whatsoever)

- getting people to shame me when I do it or call me out at least (just made me pick when I knew they couldn't see, like some sort of drug addict)
