Rewatching the series and I'm feeling differently than I originally did about identity politics in the show.
Bit of context, I watched the show from the beginning as it was coming out, rewatched it fully after the last season, read the books, watched some favorite episodes here and there and now I'm watching it all the way through again.
The first time I watched this I really felt for the belters that distrusted Holden and Fred because they were earthers. I understood where they were coming from and that those character, and myself to a certain extent, couldn't really understand fully the lives and motivations the belters had.
Now that I'm rewatching it I realized, while watching the scene after Anderson Dawes takes Cortázar, that I'm agreeing with holden more and more about how self destructive this thought process is. I especially like that Drummer seems completely done with belters that think like Dawes, and while I understand she has a history with him, she doesn't seem to change throughout the whole series and keeps a pretty no nonsense approach to everything that comes her way. Thinking about the story as a whole it really does seem like all the identity politics of Belters/Earthers/Martians hinders the groups they are trying to fight for more than it helps.
I'd be interested to hear peoples opinions on my thought process and how maybe some others have changed their interpretation of the show in other aspects. (though lets not get too off topic lol)
