Easy pass

Easy pass

We charged ahead to our Airbnb in Mazama and so far very glad we did. Took Easy Pass trail today, as Maple Pass was closed. Just a lovely day, only a few people out, perfect condition. It’s strenuous but a pretty great payoff and the smoke was minimal in terms of breathing (I have mild asthma) and views.

Going for Cascade Pass/ Sahale arm tomorrow. Will see if our luck and my aching middle aged body hold out. Amy advice on that hike especially from anyone who knows current conditions would be great

Comedians/Performers Experiences at the Fringe

I'm considering bringing a solo comedy show to Edinburgh next year, while also trying to get stand-up slots. I'd love to hear any experiences from performers this year about their experiences. Specifically for people who are self producing, how did you do getting the word out, booking venues, etc, and what the audiences have been like, etc.

Also for comedians just trying to get booked for short sets, how has that worked and what have the audiences been like?

I'm hear for random stories as well.

Input for Cascades Trip next week

So we're flying in from Jersey Sunday and have an airbnb (non refundable of course!) in Mazama Monday-Friday (already a lesson learned there!). If the smoke is really bad we are considering an alternative vacation plan with hikes closer to Seattle, maybe going east later in the week if it improves.

I have the apps and know things change day by day, but would value input from anyone there now about what you're seeing/experiencing out there and whether anyone is hiking and what it's like. If it's healthy enough to stay in Mazama and drive (far if necessary) to hike we'd be okay with it.

Any input welcome!

Edinburgh 2026

I'd be curious to hear the POV of anyone in Edinburgh this year.

I'm planning to take a solo show there next year (doing Philly Fringe this fall in prep) and want to soak up as much info as possible about it. I've seen a couple older threads here that were useful. One person had this great long post about going to just do sets. Seemed like they did amazingly well getting bookings on the spot -- I'm curious if that's actually common. But I'm more interested in info about producing a full show there. So any resources, books, blogs, etc with dos and don't would be appreciated.

I'd also just like to hear anyone else's experiences of the festival as its happening, whether you have a show there, are booking gigs, or just seeing stuff.

Travel from Mazama to Cascade Pass

Hi,
Our family just booked a stay in Mazama in August.

We want to do the Cascade pass/Sahale Arm hike at some point during our stay. And when I google that right now it's saying it's 2 hours 20 minutes from Mazama, routing me away from Cascade River Road. My understanding is if that road is open, it's closer to a 60-80 minute trip. Does anyone have any guidance on this?

Thanks!

Insane rehearsal technique

I practice a lot at home and still find myself rattled by live audiences. (I have 3 kids so can't get out to open mics too often). So I was wondering if there was a way I could imitate the live audience feeling at home and acclimate to it. So I just looped this 17 second piece of stock footage and put it on a widescreen and did my stand up. It was pretty horrifying (I may have nightmares about the bearded guy on the left) but I think maybe somewhat helpful.

Has anyone ever done something like this before? Curious if people have other useful (or just funny) rehearsal strategies.

Flying in tonight for Friday and Saturday shows. Based on the forecast, are people thinking regular ankle high work boots will suffice, or should we bring proper knee-length rain boots (hard to pack for a flight!). Any guidance appreciated. Hope thursday-goers have a great day!
