Oil suggestion for worn out rotary valve

Alright, I have a vintage instrument with a very bizarre thumb valve that is binding and almost certainly worn out. I know that the ultimate solution is having it rebuilt, but in the interim what oil should I use?

With regular rotor oil, the valve binds, grinds, and leaks quite significantly. I started using my next thickest oil, Ultra-Pure light bearing oil, inside the valve instead and that seemed to remedy the leaking and binding a bit. Is there any reason why I shouldn’t use bearing oil for the inside of the valve, and if so, what oil should I use?

Looking for a first car for my 15yo son to get his permit on. Bloodhound or ThrustSSC?

I’m thinking Bloodound cause it’s a bit newer and has more safety features.

“Cor Ascendant” method book suggestions

I’m about to take delivery of a new-to-me (yay!) horn that uses an ascending 3rd valve. As someone who’s fascinated with historical horns and other instruments, I’m particularly interested in finding appropriate method books, sheet music, and pieces that were created with the unique functionality of the ascending horn in mind. I’ve read that Maxime Alphonse had some etudes, but I don’t know which ones are for cor ascendant. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much

Crunch loss

Seeing Crunches for sale on eBay for $1000, I figured I’d mourn the loss of my favorite tool and talk about how stupid I was.

I remember buying it about 5 years ago. I instantly knew it was my favorite tool when I used it on my tractor. I discovered that the handle was misaligned slightly, so I tried to bend the tab a bit to get it to sit better… I broke it off. The tool still worked but I wanted it fixed, so I put in for a repair service. Never got around to sending it in.

Then I used it on my truck a few years ago and left it in the engine compartment. I could hear it bouncing around the battery tray now and then, and I remember thinking “I’ll get it out later”. Then one day on the road I heard a clunk that I’m certain was the tool falling out. THEN production ceased. THEN I looked for the tool. It was long gone :(.

RIP Crunch. You were my favorite multi tool.

EDIT: when I bought it I seriously considered getting two of them just because of how much I liked it. I thought “nah I’ll wait” and now here we are lol.

I have an Elkhart 8D and despite trying lots of mouthpieces over the years, I find myself coming back to the Conn #2 every time. I like the weight and the thickness of the rim, but I’d like to try some more options. Does anyone know which mouthpieces are similar in geometry to the classic Conn 2?
