Hybrid Heaven (N64) - Android (+ Windows, Linux) port

Hey Android community,

You may recall me from the Goemon Mystical Ninja Android (Goemon64Recomp-Android) port from earlier this year with assistance from Claude. I just merged a new update from a contributor today that now includes touch screen controls.

Anyone who played Goemon Mystical Ninja on Android knows it's high quality despite the use of AI. I also don't release things then pretend it doesn't exist. I want everyone to enjoy it, so I make it a point to fix reported issues, so the experience improves over time. Proof is in the repo link above and this Reddit post: r/SBCGaming - Native Android port: Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64) now available!

Anyway, I started working on ports for Hybrid Heaven and Quest64 a few months back with the intention of releasing it much sooner than this. As it goes, life, new job, and ADHD had different plans.

The past few days, I was finally able to bring Hybrid Heaven up to a good enough spot to release it. So here it is: HybridHeaven-Recomp.

Features as of 2026-10-04 include:

  • Analog Camera
  • Autosave
  • Widescreen
  • Higher internal resolutions, MSAA, V-Sync and framerate
  • Import a save
  • GPU Driver (Android)

Any issues feel free to report it in this thread or submit an issue through GitHub, whichever works for you. I'll see either of them within a day or two usually. Enjoy!

Native Android port: Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64) now available!

Goemon 64 Recompiled — Android (1.0.1 available below)

A native Android port of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon via static recompilation (Zelda64Recomp/N64Recomp lineage) — not an emulator. You bring your own ROM (the app never ships game data).

The port:

  • Native arm64 APK with RT64 Vulkan rendering
  • Physical controller support (SDL)
  • ROM import through the Android file picker — no manual folder setup or storage permissions
  • Fullscreen, landscape-locked
  • Built for Snapdragon/Adreno handhelds (Retroid Pocket 5, AYN Thor)

Extras added on top (all optional, in the settings menu):

  • Analog free-look camera on the right stick — orbit, zoom (hold R + right stick), per-axis invert, sensitivity, R3 to recenter. The original game has no free camera.
  • Autosave using the game's own save system, plus a manual quick save combo (L + R + Z)
  • Swap characters while moving (no need to stop first)
  • Cheats: infinite health / money / lives
  • Restart to title screen or app menu without closing the app
  • Higher internal resolutions (up to 8x) and higher framerates (interpolated, up to your display's refresh) — balance sharpness vs. smoothness for your device

Requirements: an arm64 device with a working Vulkan driver. Tested mainly on Snapdragon/Adreno handhelds — other GPUs may need a newer or custom (Turnip) driver, and there may still be device-specific issues (it's a 1.0).

Credits: built on klorfmorf's Goemon 64: Recompiled, the Zelda64Recomp & N64: Recompiled projects, RT64 (renderer), and linkzenic's Zelda64Recomp-Android, which paved the way. Thank you all.

Full transparency: AI (Claude, Opus/Fable) did the heavy lifting on the coding side. I've extensively tested the game (most of it) and provided detailed logs/feedback whenever a bug surfaced or a new feature was implemented, so at no point was the AI "vibe coding."

If you hit an issue or have a feature request, feel free to post it in this thread but it's super helpful if you file it on GitHub instead: https://github.com/ogdanimal/Goemon64Recomp-Android/issues/new

[WIP] Android port for Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)

Earlier today I got the itch to play Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, so I took the PC recompilation and ported it to Android to play on my Retroid Pocket 5. It runs as a native ARM64 binary via static recompilation (no emulator), with RT64 rendering through Vulkan.

Full disclosure: AI did the heavy lifting on code. I used Claude (Opus 4.8 for coding, Fable for the harder problems, like root-causing two bugs in the Adreno driver’s shader compiler that required working around Qualcomm’s frozen 2023 driver at the SPIR-V level).

I’m not an engineer by trade, but I’ve worked alongside engineers for years and have an extensive mobile QA background, so my role was the testing loop: providing logs, running every fix on-device, and verifying behavior before anything landed. Nothing shipped untested.

For full transparency, the source will be public on GitHub under the upstream projects’ licenses, with full acknowledgments to the recomp tooling, RT64, and the PC port this builds on. Repo goes up in the next few days. And so, you can judge me based on the code quality.

I tried using the built in Android OS screen recording but it created weird artifacts when the game ran at the same time so you’re stuck with a hand recording.

***No ROM or game assets are included; you provide your own copy of the game, same as every N64 recomp project.
