Decompilations sub abandoned
The weirdo mod who was harassing people has banned me, deleted comments, and then either deleted their own account or removed themselves as a mod. Just wanted to give a heads up. IDK if anyone wants to take it over or lock it down so that we have one centralized subreddit for decomps.

Pokemon Gen 1 Recomp "HD-2D" working proof of concept
Not ready to share this yet because it's still kind of crap and needs a lot of hand tuning for translating the tiles to proper voxelized models. But the potential is there :). Will share more as it improves.

defaultdnb.github.ioWWF No Mercy PC Port
No sure if already posted, but finally we have a Native PC port of WWF No Mercy (as well as all our other favourite N64 AKI games) via static recompilation. No mods or anything like that yet, apart from widescreen, 60fps+ support is planned, I can't wait to see what the future brings after this development. The same dev has also created a program called AkiLauncher, where all the AKI games can be managed from the same place. No roms provided!
Xenogears Recompilation project
https://github.com/OpokXeno/xenogears-recomp
Important disclaimer for anyone interested: This project is being developed with AI assistance and welcomes AI-assisted contributions.
Hello there! I’d like to present this recompilation I’m working on for the game Xenogears, using the psxrecomp framework for PS1 games!
It’s in a very early stage of development and has some minor graphical glitches, but based on what I’ve tested so far, it’s playable.
The recomp offers some improvements, though they’re still being worked on, and more are planned for the future. For example, in the images you can see the game with 4x supersampling and native 16:9 widescreen (without the culling error that occurs in all the emulators I’ve tried)
Pokemon Gen 1 Recomp -- A few cool findings/features
Finally had a chance to boot this up and found a few cool nuggets. If you find anything notable, please share!
PC ports of old console games are the new AI vibe coding battleground
pcgamer.comIs anyone working on a Shadow the Hedgehog Recomp?
The question is in the title. With the tools available to make recomps of Nintendo GameCube games, and given Shadow never got a PC release, is anyone working on this at all?

What skills are required to help in these projects?
What kind of tasks should we be capable of doing?
Any specific languages we should know?
Can anyone help, even with a general understanding of programming?
r/recomps subreddit going forward:
Hi all -- I created this subreddit as a counter to another subreddit that can't take mild criticism for its nepotistic content moderation. I'm doing what I can to keep on recomp/decomp news and will continue to post as I am able and would encourage you to do the same so we can build a community around innovation in the recompliation/decompilation space. That said:
- No low-quality content: This subreddit will not take a hardline stance against AI-coded projects, but will consider posts on a case-by-case basis. I recognize that there is value to AI-assisted tools. However, the clearly vibe-coded projects will be removed. Some good rule-of-thumb examples might include:
- PC ports based on recomps/decomps that don't add any notable features beyond their emulated counterparts.
- Repo owners that are so dumb that they don't add their .CLAUDE file in their .gitignore.
- Projects claiming to be "recompilations" that are actually just an emulator wrapper with a launcher slapped on, marketed as native.
Excessive posting of status updates for a given project will be removed. We don't care if your project is 60% complete today and then 70% complete tomorrow. If there's not a lot going on in the recomp/decomp space it's totally ok to leave the dead air.
Going forward, this subreddit will not allow any further discussion of, or posting of Video Game Esoterica videos or content. This subreddit will not be a promotional vehicle for someone's slop channel.
All posts relating to news on a project must link to the project or post referenced. Per #3, if you're burying the link to the project on your youtube video, that's pretty gross, and we will have none of that here :).
There is no such thing as a dumb question. Be civil to one another, be helpful to one another. This is an emerging category and we're not here to gatekeep.
Moderation in this subreddit will have zero financial stake in the success of this subreddit, will not self promote, etc. This subreddit exists to serve the emulation/recomp/decomp community and will leave any personal projects and business ventures at the door where they belong.
TL;DR -- no slop, be kind, have fun
ROTK Decompile
Has this game been decompiled? I really see a lot of potential in this game. Action RPG style with possible Co-OP and can have QOL improvements and mods. I really would like to see this happen.
Rexglue Project Founder on AI/LLM tools:
Full text:
>Over the past few months, the ReXGlue team has been hard at work developing the SDK and researching how to improve the runtime that wraps around each 360 title. Recently, it's come to our attention that a significant number of projects being released using our toolset are broken and unoriginal slop. I've touched on this topic before, but I want to take this opportunity to make it very clear where I and the project team stand. We need to be real about how programming works today. The AI/LLM tools that exist right now are powerful and can produce pretty good results. That's exciting, and we get it. The issue comes down to a few main things:
>Lack of forward progress. People generating code (and documentation) with LLMs without understanding what they're doing don't move anything forward. It creates chaos and misinformation, not progress.
>Overhype drowns out real work. It takes away from the people actually putting in serious time learning and implementing a proper recompilation / PC port. It diminishes the effort that goes into doing this the right way. I've said it before and I'll say it again: these recompilations don't happen overnight, and that was never the intent of ReXGlue. It was built as a recompilation framework with basic rendering/audio subsystems from Xenia, meant to assist with runtime reverse engineering, not a shortcut to a finished product.
>This isn't about tearing down anyone who utilizes AI/LLMs in a responsible manner. It's about the people clout chasing, looking for fame with little to no effort behind it. That's just the reality of how this goes. If you want to burn tokens and put together a Frankenstein project on your own time, that's fine. But don't make a big show of it online using language that doesn't reflect the actual work you put in. It doesn't just make you look bad, it makes the project look bad. What you do with your own time and money is your business, but don't make it the community's problem. Open discussion about responsible LLM/AI use is healthy, and we encourage it. What we won't tolerate is shameless bragging about low effort work. If you don't know what you're doing yet, that's fixable. There are plenty of resources out there to learn. The energy spent arguing with and about LLMs online could be spent actually learning this material. We will be making some changes to the rules and how theshowcase is used over the coming days.
Thanks Tom
