WE NEED NEW MODS PLEASE

All these mods do is complain about how they don't get paid and they don't really want to do this. ANY discussion about the life of this sub is just immediately removed. What a wasted opportunity to have a good place for nomads to actually connect.

Shame on you mods, shame on you.

EDIT: it's been good 12 hours, let's say our goodbyes now, mods are about to wake up and I'm about to get banned. Nice knowing y'all 😊

Tbilisi, Georgia - just uncovered another underground building

Granted, the area is all mountains small and large, but the evidence is real - just a good quality abandoned underground structure

I'm in an Airbnb pickle in Batumi

I just want to vent.

Took a risk and booked a place for 5 months right away. Regrets all over the place.

I'm in Batumi, came from Mexico, WITH A DOG, never been here before, summer is peak season.

I found this cottage 10 min away from the city, and figured WHAT THE HELL, I'll have a decent place for myself and my dog May-September. How bad can it be?

Except it was bad. Not right away, but host lives on property, has a drinking problem, was showing up at my door in the middle of the night all the time, things got ugly.

There were other issues that I ignored to my best ability, kept booking other stays for a few days here and there, because THERE IS NOTHING AVAILABLE here right now. Except for the long-term leases and 2-3 days here and there.

A few days ago things got so bad that I had to call the police just for the host to stop yelling at me in the middle of the day. I'm a woman btw, so some things might seem like an overreaction if you assume I'm a guy.

So I HAD to move out. Idk if the host changed their mind about long term and wanted to rent it daily and kick me out or if they're just nuts, bottom line I have no AFFORDABLE place to live.

Airbnb support offered to cover a hotel for 3 days, but I booked a week in a BASEMENT WITH NO WINDOWS, because I couldn't do a hotel with a dog.

Yes yes I know what was I thinking traveling with a dog, but I was thinking I love him and he's my best friend and I'm not leaving him on the streets of Mexico. That's not what friends do.

Anyway. Airbnb is "looking in my case", they stopped responding a few days ago. They were supposed to send me a coupon to cover the price difference between what I already paid for ($900 for August) and a new booking. The cheapest place (that would work for me and the dog) is $1700. I highly doubt they'll cover it. Especially seeing how they just don't respond anymore.

So I was paying $900/month, plus another roughly $400/month on random stays just to get away from that bs, nothing decent is available except for shit studios on 35th floor of the tourists highrises.... My dog is terrified of the elevators 😅 he's a small town boy. We can't live in a studio. That's why I booked ahead of time!!!

In my mind I planned everything right. I booked ahead of time, did the research to my best ability and did the smart thing.

I'm now looking at paying $1700 out of pocket for a month in a town where monthly rent goes for $500, because I need a place last minute during the busiest time of the year.

I won't be able to handle the "this is your fault" comments right now, so if you have it in you - please be gentle. Instead, can you tell me your stories?

Also, do you think Airbnb will just ghost me?

Thanks and stay smart out there!

EDIT: some of these comments... smh... some of you should really be ashamed of yourself

What did you waste your money on this summer?

Me - I went to a "cheaper city", stopped tracking my spending for a few months because I felt rich (and was exhausted), and ended up spending 3x my budget on going out, eating out, take out, massages, taxis, me and dog lived and ate like KINGS for 2 months.

Luckily we both got fat so now we need to eat less and exercise more = spend less.

Anyone else is stupid like that?

Have you noticed the "playing on the background" niche?

If you have and I'm the last one to notice - I'm sorry.

If you haven't, hear me out.

So I noticed this in myself and in how my channel became a "background" channel. I'm currently taking a break btw.

You know how sometimes you just want to turn something on to play while you're doing something?

So there are videos to "grab attention fast", very dynamic, entertaining, etc that people sit down and actively watch. And then there are music videos with millions of views that just play on the background.

Instagram has a button to just keep playing reels without you touching the screen...

I think there is a real niche for background videos. Like a podcast, but on YouTube, and it needs to have a background vibe. A little slower, no random yelling or explosions, no need for fancy visuals, just your voice telling the story.

My channel is faceless, I'm only 6k subs, it's like a talking head, but no head lol I just point the camera at what I'm looking at and talk while holding the phone. And I do have a loyal audience that tells me they don't even care about my visuals, they just put on YT while working, cooking, running errands...

So idk for those of you who have things to tell but not necessarily to show, because podcasts are such pain to promote, I really think there is a whole new niche on YT for background videos.

That's all I wanted to say.

I burned out and am not making videos anymore

That's it. Anyone else is taking a break or have quit already?

6k subs, 3k-40k average views, I have a loyal audience, but I'm tired. So much negativity even though there is so much positivity as well, my monetization is shit, I'm just done. I do have a lot more to say but I'm so tired of those shit comments. I'm tired of talking to myself.

I know if I push harder I can get my monetization to motivational level (probably), but I'm just done for now.

I'm long form, 14 months full time, used to make 4-5 videos per week, then twice a week, then once a week now 0 per week.

A fun HYPOTHETICAL question

This is something that happened to me irl a few years ago and frankly ruined my career. I think about it often and wanted to ask y'all HYPOTHETICALLY how would someone play that game?

The name of the game is "you realize your company commits financial fraud". Do you play or do you fold? (I folded)

Here is the scenario.

You join a PUBLIC company, $250k base, $160k flat binary bonus if you achieve 100% of your target.

You're given a $9M portfolio of existing clients in your department, your job is to sell $3M to end up with $12M at the end of the year.

Business in question was staffing, but you can pick any industry for this game, as long as there are 12+ months contracts.

Here is what happens:

  1. 3 months in you realize your portfolio is $9M on paper, but only $600k in reality. Boss tells you you'll need to cover up the difference if you want your bonus. Must be $12M in the end of the year.

  2. Company is well known, customers are real, opportunities are easy to create.

  3. Every opportunity you create - boss tells you to "close as won" even though it's not. 3 months in you have officially"closed" $3M in new business. So technically met your quota, right? Wrong. Numbers don't show up in financial systems.

  4. Your fake closed numbers go to cover up for last year's fake numbers, and now your portfolio is a mess, it's fake $9M, real $600k, NEW FAKE $3.6M.

  5. Everyone in the company is noticing how successful you are at your new role having closed so much new business so fast. "Closed won" announcement emails sent company-wide. People congratulate you every day.

  6. 4 months in C-level people start calling you asking why your numbers aren't reflected in the financial systems and are asking you to show your P&L.

Your move.

Stuck in an AirBnB that wakes you up at 4 am every day for 3 more months

So there is this dog...

Basically, there is a dog that starts barking every single night at around 4 am. Right by my window. And he doesn't stop till about 5.30. By that time my blood reaches cortisol levels I didn't know were possible, I can't go back to sleep till 7-8 am if I can go back to sleep at all that day. June has been particularly awful and I'm running on 4 hours of sleep. I'm about as crazy as sleep deprivation gets you right now.

Oh but why won't you just move?

See, I too have a dog. And I booked this place a long time ago, for 5 months because I'm stupid and because it's a cabin on the outskirts of Batumi so I don't have to take my dog out every time he needs to pee, which is 53 times a day because he used to live on the streets of Mexico where he could pee freely and I don't want to take that away from him. I'd gate it if someone took that away from me and I believe in treating others the way you want to be treated.

Summer is the peak season in Batumi, I didn't want to have to look for a place last minute during the worst market so I spoke to the Airbnb owner a few times and decided to book May - September.

But now I can't sleep. And no houses with yards available for under like $2k which I can't afford right now. I can get a small apartment, which I did a bunch of times now just to sleep but that means I do have to go on those 10 walks a day because I'm a sucker for my dog.

That other barking dog just wouldn't shut up. I tried everything, and he's a good dog otherwise, it's just that his owner is never home, he's gone for weeks and even when he's here he's not paying any attention to the poor guy. So he's just hungry and terrified all the time.

AirBnB owner basically said "if you don't like it - move, we'll have this place booked in a hot minute". Speaking of that famous Georgian hospitality.

So here I am. I spent the last 2 weeks in 2 different apartments, paying double the rent, everything is booked, and what isn't booked is crazy expensive or inconvenient in some other way...

It's 10.30 pm, my work day is ending an midnight, and then I'm onto my 3-4 hours of sleep!

I hope y'all are valuing a good night's sleep, we don't appreciate it enough when we have it..

EDIT: today's concert started at 2.30 am. It's 3 am so I'm up early lol gonna have nothing done today again

Remember to quit early

Got an idea 3 months ago, quickly spoke to a few potential customers, decided to go for it. Quit today.

Turned out the problem on the market was real, the need is there, but none of the clients have any interest in changing how they do things. I spoke to 70% of my market.

Their current process is manual, cumbersome, they ARE losing money. But. They don't care. They won't switch to a tool that "does everything for them". Makes them feel like they're losing control.

Price didn't matter, fancy messages from my (much larger) competitors didn't matter, nothing matters. So I fold and move on to the next.

Any US citizens successfully moved your online business to foreign banking/payments?

I can't figure out anything as reliable as Stripe for online payments/subscriptions globally. Wise seems as unreliable as PayPal and your account can be closed at any time.

Has anyone moved your business and your money somewhere else? I'm in Georgia right now (the country) and the options are dreadful

Nightmare hosts anyone?

I'm so tired of RENTING. I know, I know that's the name of the game, but every now and then it kills me that they just don't understand the place is my HOME for the time being. I don't have another home, THIS is home.

And it's not like I own property anywhere anyway, I've been renting my whole life. It's easier in large cities, you rarely know the owners, but in smaller towns I keep getting places with owners right there, and omfg. And it's never any real issues - I'm quiet, I'm nice, I'm a woman (which in my mind is somehow better lol), I ask for nothing. I just want to be left the f alone.

Yet there is often a problem. A personal one. And yes there ARE things stopping you from leaving right there in the spot.

I'm in Batumi right now and the owners are at my door 5 times a day with SOMETHING. There is always SOMETHING.

Idk about you guys but I travel to find a place to live. To find a place I can call home. Is it just not possible with renting?

I won't rant anymore today, but I hope you will.

Nightmare hosts stories anyone?

Communities do not exist, stop asking, it's all marketing

"How do I find community in xyz city?"

You don't. "Communities" do not exist. It's all marketing from people who're trying to sell you some monthly subscription.

There are events you can attend. There are separate people you can meet. There are bars, coffee shops and co-working places you can come to where you may or may not meet someone. There are group chats in Whatsapp/Telegram you can join, but there are no "communities" where you just come and everyone is friends and everyone knows each other and you just come and "join".

People MOVE AROUND, come and go, everyone has a job, different plans, different social (or anti-social) calendars.

I don't know who sold you this idea of "communities" that some of you think exist around the world, but they don't.

You go to hostel you'll meet some people, but it's not a "community", it's just people who live there. You go attend some event and also it's just people who showed up, maybe they'd get along maybe they wouldn't.

If someone becomes friends and they decide to do things - it's just a group of friends, they won't be inviting random strangers to "join their community" unless they're selling you something.

I'm only saying this so y'all stop being disappointed when you start traveling and then painfully realize each city is just a regular city and each place is just a regular place with regular people.

Unless it's a cult.

You want to meet people and do things together - there are activity things like running clubs, but again, you just run together. Maybe you become friends maybe you don't. Maybe someone plans an event or doesn't.

There are no "built in" friendship groups anywhere. So relax and be normal please.

If there was a cards game about consulting, what would be the moves and rules?

We were playing pretend "no you do the work" in another thread and thought it would be fun to have a cards game where you beat each other with different moves like "pls make the slides" that you can beat with "sure pls prepare the agenda first", cc'ing random people to delay, etc.

No one outside consulting would ever play this game and none of us have any will to live left, wanna play it here?

2026 and you STILL can't check in in the morning...

Both hotels and Airbnb, it's crazy to me! Like, I get it if you're back to back booked, sure, there needs to be a window for cleaning... But why are we all operating on what's convenient for cleaners?

What the shit is a 3 pm check in... Asking for an early check in makes you feel like a criminal... Can't we have idk an hourly rate?

If you want to check in at 10 am you need to do what? Book one extra day from before? Why?

With the amount of technology available, NO ONE can set it up so if your hotel room/AirBnB wasn't occupied a day before then the next day check in can be as early as the sun comes up? Like I get it for 3 am check ins, or middle of the night, but WHY CAN'T I CHECK IN AT 10 AM. That's the same day!

Any spoiled girlies here who love the adventure but miss designer clothes?

I'm a spoiled New Yorker with Eastern European roots, been on the road for 4 years now. See, right now I love the cows that just walk freely on my street, but I also miss my Proenza Schouler.

I'm loving all the street food and farmers markets I just wish I was wearing marni shoes 😅

I'm not fancy, I promise, those aren't "luxury" luxury items. Yes, they are expensive, but they don't LOOK expensive, they're just good clothes for the soul.

I do my own nails but I miss my $32 nail polish you can't get outside of US.

I haven't been in US for a while, all my things must be replaced, I just went to the best mall in the city and clothes are just so sad...

Anyone else?
