I just got my teeth cleaned and despite the hygienist being incredibly sweet and gentle, it was an absolute sensory nightmare, between the sounds and the feeling and the bright light in my face for an hour (even with the sunglasses they give you). My back is sore from how tense I was the whole time, despite making a conscious effort to relax my body, and I had to go straight home and take a 3 hour nap after to recover lol.
I’m definitely gonna bring a big plushie to squeeze next time, and maybe a fidget to distract from the sensations and high pitched noises, but do you guys have any other suggestions? I’m paying extra for nitrous when I get my fillings but definitely can’t afford to do that every time lol.
I work for a medical advocacy org, and we’re trying to put together a list of resources for low-income workers, retirees, and their families who need dental cleanings.
A lot of people have lost their medi-cal dental benefits this month, which were already subpar to begin with (only covering one cleaning a year, when you really need two to maintain dental health). We also see a lot of people who make slightly too much to be eligible for medi-cal/medicare, but not enough to afford insurance premiums and out of pocket costs.
I know there are a couple dental schools that may offer discounted cleanings, but I’m hoping to find more options for folks as the number of people unable to access care is growing. Anywhere from Fremont to El Sobrante, or even if there are some options around SF, I’d love to know about them! Thanks in advance :)
My friend lost her insurance but doesn’t qualify for Medi-Cal, and needs to be able to refill her meds. Does anyone know of any orgs or psychiatrists who can do sliding-scale treatment? Thanks!!
I feel like it’s a common experience, but I try so hard to set rules and routines for myself, like going to bed on time, not sitting and doomscrolling when I should be doing something else, doing my dishes, not eating all the cookies, etc. but my brain is like… but we can just do it, right? I know impulse control is something we can often struggle with, but I don’t know what I have to do to like, *make* myself do something I need to do :(
