possible to commission rices?
Hello, im a long time sway user but ive just kinda gotten fed up with the lack of customisation on sway, I dont really have time to do my own rice nor do I have any experience with lua.
I'd like to see if I could pay someone like £20 (or other equivalent) for a mid complexity rice (some custom scripts & menus, general appearance).
I can program the shell scripts and menus myself but I have no idea how to use hyprland.
Advice
I'm currently using sway (desktop image attached), i have been using sway for AGES, so im really used to using it.
I'd like to see about switching to hyprland or something similar because theres just a lack of customization on sway generally.
My questions are:
- What compositors are easiest to switch to coming from sway (and have good nvidia support)
- How should i go about learning to use them? I dont want to immediately stop using sway as i need my functional desktop still, so use a VM? im unsure
Is there a WM as customisable as hyprland, but works with nvidia by default?
title is question
hyprland doesn't work with nvidia very well
This breaks on every distro ive tried
Whenever I install a nvidia driver beyond version 580 on ANY distro (arch, opensuse, debian, fedora) my system freezes on reboot.
im using an rtx 3070
I genuinely have no explanation for this, my card must have issues.
considering switching from siduction
Hello, went to reinstall siduction today and the cli installer was broken (just unstable problems I guess), tried to install siduction manually through a fresh debian sid install and it also broke.
I'd like to give arch a try considering im currently completely locked out of my main distro
Im looking for suggestions of what to try out, im used to using just plain CLI or sway, but ive been looking into hyprland aswell
So far, these are my main choices for arch:
- Berserk arch
- Standard arch
What would you reccomend?
Im either just going to use CLI or try out hyprland
rant oclock
Ive spent the last 8 hours trying to fix this:
Went to reinstall siduction because i wanted a fresh plate
installer is fucking broken
Go to forum, forum is broken also
Try tumbleweed instead
immediately breaks when trying to do nvidia drivers
try installing siduction manually through debian
debian fucking breaks
I have no idea why this is all happening, but im genuinely so close to just switching to arch or gentoo
Considering switching from sway to hyprland, what do i need to know? (and some of my own questions)
Basically, ive been using sway on siduction linux (7.0.11-1) for a while now, but im starting to run into some issues having to stack different extensions like eww just to accomplish what i want, aswell as just a lack of visual customisation built in.
I'm considering switching to hyprland but i have some questions first:
- Can you build your own like task menus/bars natively into hyprland or is it also done through extensions like eww and custom scripts
- Whats the config like compared to sway, is it very similar for just editing keybinds and whatnot or is there an entirely different system
- How much comes preinstalled? You still get fonts and basic themes & whatnot right?
also just looking for advice generally, and anything i need to know
Suggestions for DE
I currently use sway on siduction linux (7.0.11-1), its a custom setup which is basically:

Just looks like a CLI with no DE or WM, but when you open windows they appear above it

I have an eww task popup instead of a bar

Basically im just having some issues with workflow, windows constantly stacking above eachother and min/maxing them is a pain, also it just doesn't look great generally.

Any suggestions? I might try switching to hyprland
Dreamt I was in a liminal space with a chair that gives you slightly more irrational fears the longer you sit on it
There was this chair and the longer you sat on it the more irrational the fear you got was, like if you sat on it for 12 minutes you would gain a mild fear of slightly opened windows, but not fully opened or closed.

The worst part was when I sat on the chair for 5 minutes and gained the fear of firetrucks without hoses and proceeded to set my home alight in an attempt to get a firetruck with a hose to counteract it
There was some that were like the fear of the concept of 3 story buildings but not actual 3 story buildings
Best way to quickly map out screw holes for motherboard

Is there a way to remove certain edges from fillet?
I can see that there's options in the fillet like edit thing but deselecting edges does nothing and theyre still filleted.

I need to remove the fillet edges on this design where its gonna be covered by the wall I just sketched
This problem crashes FreeCAD when I try to solve it graphically
Not homework, just new to CAD and I cant seem to get the answer to this through just drawing as it crashes

Currently trying to figure out this length, which when put into FreeCAD crashed. I believe its ~76.06 but id like to get confirmation because I'm not the brightest.
Reccomendations for fitting an ITX cooler to a thinkpad X380 board
Hello, im building my own laptop from scratch (or nearly i guess) and im trying to use the thinkpad X380 mainboard as the basis for everything.
Ive been looking at upgrading the cooler so the blower fan isnt at 100% while just trying to compile, I have a noctua L9i lying around from a previous build and wanted to see if i could mount it but i cant really figure out a feasible way of doing it.
Getting it attached isnt the issue, i can just print an adapter for the attachment, i cant figure out how to actually get the two faces to make decent contact for heat transfer since the chip hardly protrudes from the board.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
