How can I stop feeling guilty about asking Santa Muerte for help?

For a long time, I have struggled with asking for help from people. I think I'm afraid of being seen as a bother or a burden. I noticed that being hesitant in asking for help has bled into my spiritual practice. I know that Santa Muerte can be petitioned for almost anything, but sometimes I feel like my requests are too trivial.

My Novena got answered!

Since January, my mother has been worried about the cost of living. We recently moved into a new place, which is bigger but more expensive than our old home. Bills, rent, and taxes are higher. Everyone in our family has tried our best to be frugal and reasonable with money.

Some time in Spring, my mum got even more concerned about money and unexpected debts. She is usually calm about finances, so I started to become stressed out too. Some time later, I had a dream that the gold Santa Muerte appeared in front of me. In the dream, I fell on my knees pleading for her help. Santa Muerte carried me into her arms and flew into the distance; that's where the dream ended.

When I woke up, I took that as a sign to pray to Santa Muerte for her intercession. I looked up a novena online and performed it- along with a promise to give her public praise and art. About a week after I completed the novena, my mother told me that she got a permanent job that pays more and is closer to home- only a walking distance. I'm so relieved!

Thank you, Santa Muerte!

May your name be praised!

Where can I good sources on West African Vodún?

I'm a Nigerian Brit looking for reliable info on Vodún. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck online because most of what comes up is American or Haitian Voodoo/Voudou. I'm curious because I mainly want to know the origins of Lwas and other spirits before they were syncretised with Christian saints.

I want to know Baron Samedi's origins and Erzulie Freda's, for instance.

I also want to know if it's possible to adapt some Vodún practices in my life without initiation.

And one more thing, is it okay for an African person who is not African-American to practice American-style Voodoo/Hoodoo?
