GOING INSANEEE from OMSAS fee waiver application

This application form was put together with hot glue and toothpicks under a 5 min deadline. The wording of these questions is so poorly done ToT

Was any housing and/or food assistance provided to you or paid on your behalf by family, friends, an employer or other entity (other than Financial aid or social programs)?

Did you and/or your spouse receive financial gifts or financial support from family, friends, or other entity?

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE??? If I include something as housing support, does that mean I exclude it from financial support?? Also, do I count money that came from my parents when I already included their income? That would be counting their money twice, so does this field only apply to additional family/friends not mentioned in the application? ARGHH. Also. They don't specify the timeframe for government assistance (I'm assuming its annual instead of monthly given how they ask for everything else annually, but I would expect them to be clearer). Idek. Rant over. Send help :'D

Which prof would be a better reference?

So I'm going to get in touch with my references by tonight (a little bit late, I know...) For my academic reference I'm torn between two professors, both of which I think could be good options:

Prof 1: He was my prof for calc in 1st year (I'm going into 4th now). He knows me by name comfortably, and I would sit in the first row pretty much every class and participate by raising my hand. More than that, I had a brief working relationship with him where I helped him as a graphic designer to promote a math-related program he had started up. I got a 100 in his class (and like 107 on the final exam...crazy curve).

The only con is that we basically haven't spoken for 2 years.

Prof 2: She was my prof just last year. Similarly, she got to know my name because I would sit near the front and raise my hand and participate a lot. I also attended basically all the study-tip workshops that she held throughout the year, and I (along with 3 classmates) won a challenge and had lunch with her. I got a 91 in her class.

The only con is that she wasn't the prof for most of this course (it was taught by like 9 profs throughout the year), so idk if our affiliation is academically rigorous enough.

For my other references, one will be the physician I was shadowing/volunteering for, and I'm considering one of my clients whose kid I've been tutoring for like 2 years to be my last reference. Who would u choose as your academic reference (maybe I should I do both...)

HSP Interview day is on my MCAT day 😭

For anyone with experience in HSP programs, I'd really appreciate some insight.

So 4th year HSP students in my med sci specialty (phys/pharm) just got an email telling us that interview day for getting matched into our thesis projects is going to be Sept 11...my MCAT testing day 💀 I've reached out to the faculty, and to my dismay, the only recommendation on their end was to reschedule my MCAT. Never mind the fact that I'm a broke uni student and don't want to pay $150+ to reschedule the exam I booked months ago...I CAN'T EVEN GET ON THE NOFITCATION LISTS FOR SEPT/AUG!!

For current/former HSP students, my question is: if you attend interview day, do you have a good chance of getting into one of the 1-2 projects you interview for? My thought process is, if there is a very low chance I even get into one of the 2 projects I want (ie they are very high-demand), I might be better off saving my money and just waiting for the second round of interviews. Idk. I would appreciate any insight 🥲

Did I ruin my friend's marble counter? Help!!

It's not that obvious on camera but trust me my camera just sucks 💀 I played with the saturation to make it more obvious.

So I'm house-sitting for my friend (out of the country for like a month). I've obviously been using her kitchen, and I've never had marble countertops or anything.

Anyway I'm pretty sure that this happened because I left a hot cast iron pan on the counter for a while, and when I removed it this is what I found 😭

I've already scrubbed with steel wool and it looks a bit better, but I'm worried that this damage is permanent!! Any tips are appreciated...plz help 🙏🙏

Do HSPs get priority to sign up?

Apologies in advance for the abominable typos but the other poost I tried to make was down taken.

I'm med sci 4th year HSP and unfortunately I got an extremely late enrallment appaintment 💀 I went through a lot of effort to look at ratings and syllabi to make the perfect sched... but oh well.

Do 4th year HSPs get priarity over non-HSPs in the same madule when signing up for caurses?? I'd rather only be competing with other HSPs than every other med sci 4th year preferably... plz halp

Movies are no fun when the actors are too famous

It is genuinely so difficult for me to immerse myself in a movie/show when I'm watching an A list celebrity on screen. Like, anything with Tom Holland, The Rock, Adam Sandler is basically unwatchable for me 💀💀

I have a tendency to attach a character to an actor once I watch something, and that's all I'll associate them with forever.

Two exceptions:

  1. If the characters that the actor plays look sufficiently different from one another. My golden standard is Johnny Depp, he looks like a different creature altogether in some of his projects (i.e Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, Captain Jack Sparrow). A more realistic/subtle example would be like Adam Scott in Severance vs Parks and Rec. The physical appearance (pre much the hair) and the demeanor/story of the character are so distinct that I can't conflate those two characters in my mind.

  2. If the actor is basically playing the same character in every movie they're in. Best example I can come up with is Adam Sandler. If you want to watch a comedy with Adam Sandler, that's exactly what you're getting, regardless of what the name of the protagonist is (most of his characters are interchangeable with one another).

Basically I wish I could see more new faces on my TV screen. I will actively avoid movies that go all out on promoting their A-list celebrity cast bc I know I will likely not be immersed in the movie, and I won't enjoy it either. Movies are way more fun when the actors are not famous.
