Am I overreacting or is this a genuine issue

My car does 0.4 km more per litre when my father in law is not in it.

I have twenty two data points. Tank to tank, same route, same fuel pump, same driver.

With him: 13.6 average. Without: 14.0. Every single time. Not once has it gone the other way.

He weighs 74 kg. I have accounted for this. My friend Suresh is 81 and the number does not move for Suresh.

I have tested the seat he sits in with other people. Fine. I have tested him in the rear. Same result. It is not the seat. It is him.

He does nothing wrong. He doesn't touch the AC. He barely talks. He looks out of the window and occasionally says "achha road hai."

Twice now I have said no to a family trip and given a reason that as not the reason.

Is there a mechanical explanation for this or should I stop logging it?

I own a 2016 Honda Amaze Diesel (20 km/l city, 25 km/l highway). Upgrade or wait for BS7 given the uncertainty?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

I currently own a Manual 2016 Honda Amaze Diesel and it's been extremely efficient, giving me around 20 km/l in the city and 25 km/l on highways. It is 10 years old and works well. Well maintained. Zero issues.

I'm considering upgrading, but I'm confused:

  • If I wait for BS7, I'm worried that vehicle prices may increase due to stricter emission norms. Fuel efficiency could drop even more. Cars may become even more expensive due to factors like semiconductor shortages, inflation, INR depreciation etc.
  • If I get it now, the ongoing uncertainty around E20 petrol, the future of diesel and changing regulations makes me hesitant.
  • EV isn't an option for me at the moment because My family isn't ready to switch yet. I live in an apartment where charging is limited to a common charging point, making ownership less convenient.

Background: I booked Kia Seltos in Mar 2026 and cancelled the booking in Apr 2026 due to ongoing confusion.

Budget: 25 Lakhs (On-Road incl. Insurance, Extended Warranty, Accessories etc.)

Why Upgrade? (In the order of priority)

-Automatic (for city driving)

-Better Comfort (We are all 5'10 to 6'1 Tall)

-Safer car (4 or 5 Star Rating)

-Better Features (Rear AC Vents, Bose Speakers, Dual AC, Wireless Charging, 360 Degree Cam, Ventilated Seats, ADAS etc.)

The emotional part...

The biggest reason I wanted to upgrade this year is personal. I had promised myself that if my income crossed 50 LPA, I would reward myself with a car worth around 25 lakh.

That milestone happened after 5 years of tears, struggles, challenges and hard work. I was genuinely excited. Instead of celebrating the milestone, I've ended up in my current situation......

If you were in my position, what would you choose and why?

Upgraded from iPad Air (M2) to iPad Pro (M5). Thoughts & Impressions.

Two years ago, I picked up the iPad Air (M2) 13-inch. Wow! what a screen it was....

The 13-inch display was genuinely immersive. My brother had the iPad Pro (M4) 11-inch. My parents preferred 13 inch Air when kept side by side saying "not even close". Even my brother admitted the same regarding immersiveness.

It was honeymoon period. After 12 months, it became a netflix machine.

Reason? It was too heavy. It was not even close to replace my laptop. I eventually picked up a MacBook Air 13-inch Sky Blue (M4) and its awesome.

Anyway, I gave this iPad to my father and upgraded to 11 inch iPad Pro (M5) Cellular version last week.

Now, my iPad can act as hotspot, it will have its own network and can even charge my Android Phone lol.

Is it still heavy with a case? Yes. But nowhere near as bad as the bigger iPad. I gained 120Hz OLED but lost that immersive feeling I loved about the bigger display. The trade-off is worth it though: this one actually goes places with me.

One last regret: the Apple Pencil Pro. I barely use it.

Overall, I hope I made the right decision. Praying that this won't become another Netflix Machine.
