Do you have to decertify welfare benefits every 6 months now?

I just recertified my MediCal in April but I just got notification that I have to recertify my CalFresh now too. I looked it up & the state website says you only have to recertify once per year now, then do a mid-year renewal. When I called the county, they said I have to do a full recertification & that’s what my benefitscal website says too. Is this correct? I’m disabled & experience cognitive difficulties at times, plus I have a lot of uncovered medical expenses I have to submit receipts for so this is a big task for me that I need help with to make sure I do it correctly. In the past, when I’ve called the county for help to fill out the app over the phone, they’ve refused to help me with the whole thing & will only help me fill out one section. I’m completely overwhelmed & in tears because I’m already really struggling to complete with day to day tasks on my own & I think this is beyond what I can do by myself but I can’t lose my benefits because I’ll literally starve with assistance. Thank you for any info!

Items for pack for busy mom?

Hi all. I’m not a mom but my little sister is. She’s an absolutely incredible mom to two toddlers, one of whom is autistic & requires extra support. She & her husband also own a wildly successful small business. She works her butt & I am so incredibly proud of all she does!

I would love to get her some sort of care basket or pack to support her & let her know I care. The problem is I’m pretty low income & disabled so what I can get her (both cost & ability to actually get the item) is limited. I also don’t the ability to make stuff (knit, crochet, etc). I’d say I could spend up to $125 max but I’d feel a lot better if I could keep it at or below $100. Ideally, I could mail it to her since I struggle to drive sometimes & she’s really busy. I’d feel bad making her take time out of her day to stop by my house to pick up something that’s supposed to relieve stress.

Thank you for all you do! You have the hardest job in the world & don’t get the recognition, respect, & support you all deserve!

Slumlord Mayor?

What should we call this guy who cares so much about wanting to fix homelessness that he illegally raised the rent forcing tenants to take legal action? And then just did it AGAIN before even reaching a settlement from the first illegal rent raise. And also, he thinks we can do better than the current mayor…he doesn’t actually know much about her or the council though. His quotes in the article say so much about him. It’s not enough that he’s a slumlord of some buildings, he wants to be a Slum Mayor of Eureka.

Edit: I just reread his candidacy announcement statement. One of his goals is to “bring people together.” I think he’s going to succeed in that without even having to win!
