Phone charging: How hot is too hot?

I recently got a Xiaomi phone with 120w charging. When I charge it, it always gets hot - super hot! Sometimes it's the phone itself, sometimes (depending on the charger) it's the charger that get really hot, and this also goes for wireless charging.

I realize some will say "don't use the turbo or fast charge," but that isn't my question here!

What I'm asking is:

What is the difference between the charger vs the phone getting hot - why does that happen and what does it mean?

And how hot is still considered "reasonable" and when should I genuinely worry?

-- EDIT: Please, my question isn't whether or not to use fast charge...! I know! I'm asking something else regarding the thermodynamics - heat!
