Tamebsz

This is a great song! Interested in hearing opinions about this song. Any ideas about the scales Khn uses? Sounds almost a little Arabian in flavor, no? There are a couple of songs Khn stretches out and lets loose on the guitar, Ababa Hotel and this one being the ones I think of.

Something impressive to me... when your average joe blow guitarist (and I will put myself in this category) gets their hands on a looper, I imagine they loop E-A-B chords ad nauseam and jam the same riffs over the same loop over and over and over. I love that there seem to be so many distinct different sections to this song-- even though for the most part, seems to basically hang out on the same chord for the entire song (A). These guys are quite inventive.

I really thought Vol 2 was superior to Vol 1 but i may have to change my mind. The trifecta of Tamebsz to Ababa Hotel segue dah-dah to dah-dah Sahardnieh is mindblowing to me.

The Green Grove Golden Girls

Let's be honest. If YOU were Cookie or Minn, would you want Nucci hanging out with you? She was a sweet lady and probably one of the purest characters on the show (low bar). But madone, she would have probably been annoying to hang out with. Yapping at you from the backseat when you're trying to park, looking at you sideways at the dinner table because she thinks you stole her rolls, taking a hit on 18 at the blackjack table and she takes YOUR 6?

Why so important to convert the immune?

I just binged the season in couple of days. I accidentally signed up for apple tv+ again by trying to use my phone as apple tv remote because the remote-- doesn't matter. This time, the powers at Apple wouldn't grant me a refund. SO, decided to catch this series. I liked it. Big fan of Rhea Seehorn from BCS.

Apologies if this has been discussed before. But why is it so important for the hive mind to convert Carol and the other immunes? Why not just leave them be?

Vol 1/Vol 2

I am very AdP-curious. i've already posted with questions on the looping, guitar gear, etc. One more question. For their studio tracks, do you think the recording process is fairly typical? Musicians laying down tracks, recording on top of other tracks, overdubs and all that? or do you think Khn is using the looper extensively for studio recording like he does in the live setting?

Loop de loop

First of all, let me say I still haven't had the chance to see these guys live. But actively tried to watch every live performance on youtube. Listened to Vol 1 and Vol 2 ad nauseum (maybe a little less pertinent for looping discussion).

Not knowledgeable about loopers in general. I used to think for live performers, it was cheating a little bit. But I think Khn uses it to absolute perfection. Nothing canned about it. Still allows peak energetic guitar/bass riffage for live shows. I think their performances seem incredibly consistent in general, probably because when Khn able to capture bursts of guitar/bass riffs, he can maintain quality control on the fly and make sure the riffs are solid. Then, just repeat the riffs through the looper and lay down another riff on top of it. Rinse and repeat, take over the universe.

Ababa Hotel

Couple of thoughts on Ababa Hotel:

  1. I have given up trying to pick a favorite song from AdP. Can't do it. I know they have a limited category of songs right now but I love all of them almost equally (with the exception of Utzp, which I would say I like, not love). But Ababa Hotel is probably slightly above the rest along with a couple others.

  2. I usually favor live takes of songs compared to recorded versions since they usually sound more energetic and more spontaneous. But AdP's recorded versions have the same energy and spontaneity as their live takes.

  3. Brings us to this particular song. Khn's guitar work is great! His fingers are flying all over the fretboard here. He sounds like a seasoned jazz guitarist on this track. At some point on the version from Vol 1, he's burning thru some licks, then in the background, you hear someone shout out "Whoo!" I'm gonna assume it's Khn who yells out. Reminds me of that quote from Han Solo that goes something like "You know princess, sometimes I impress even myself"

I don't think I've really seen much hint of amplifiers that Khn is plugged into when on stage. Technology has passed me by, I'm used to guitar/bass plugging into an amp of some sort, marshall stack or twin reverb would do nicely. Is he plugged directly into soundboard? Amp simulator? His guitar/bass sound is coming out through the stage speakers then?
