Far from perfect, but did this as a side job in 5 hours

There were 5 unmanaged switches in this mess.

Also about 20+ unused cables that they asked for me to leave just incase they need them.

Charged $750, which I've realized is super low after reading posts in this sub.

Is there something wrong with how I'm giving my techs directions?

Me: 'Hey Billy, Johnny from Accounting messaged me saying his internet isn't working. I checked our RMM and it's showing it disconnected over the weekend so maybe the cleaning crew did something to the ethernet cable. It's probably just a simple replugging of the ethernet cable. Can you go check it out?'

Billy just stares at me for a few seconds and says ok. Then sits at their desk for a few minutes and then goes to check on the problem.

They then message me on Teams 'they're not getting an IP'

Me: 'even after reconnecting the ethernet cable?'

Silence for 5 or so minutes

Billy: 'i checked the network settings and everything looks good'

Me: 'ok cool. So they're online again?'

Billy: 'no not yet. I'm checking firewall settings'

------

And this is with all 3 of my techs.

Is this a me problem?

What's the preferred way to cut out an image nowadays?

I work in IT and never used it professionally.

I have been using it for the past 20+ years though, all self taugh or learned from youtube.

Nowadays I use AI to help, then create a mask to refine it .

Before I'd use the pen tool.

I ask because I helped the guy in our marketing department today with a mouse issue.

I saw he was using the lasso tool, with the image zoomed in like 20x, and he was pretty much selecting each individual pixel (not really but really close).

He said it sometimes takes him a full day for 1 image.

The images are nothing crazy, just food products.

Is taking all day for 1 cutout normal in a professional setting?

If everyone started posting gibberish on forums, will that ruin ChatGPT and Claude and other LLMs?

For instance, if everyone on reddit agreed to post a bunch of gibberish posts, and filled it with replies in gibberish for a month. Will it make a noticeable impact on LLMs?

Anyone use HME? Looks like they doubled their repair prices

$600 to repair their shitty HME timers now.

$700 to exchange it.

Hopefully SoLinks or Envysions's solution can replace it. I'm piloting both soon.

Safety Guidelines for Field Technicians?

I currently manage some field technicians that will run cable, install POS equipment, cameras, etc. in restaurant locations.

Do I write up safety guidelines or does that fall on Operations or someone else?

I used to work for Spectrum as a cable installer, and we were taught some basic safety during training. I feel like having some sort of guide would be helpful for any new technicians that get onboarded.

AITAH for telling my stepson he treats his son like an abused dog?

My stepson is 22 year old.

He has a 1 1/2 year old. Ever since my grandson could crawl, my stepson has been yelling at him. Things like 'come here!' 'Stop!' 'Why don't you listen?!'

I keep telling him a 1 year old doesn't understand you. He doesn't know what 'stop' means, and that the yelling just makes him look like a crazy person yelling at their dog.

He got mad and said to stay out and he can raise his son however he wants.

I don't want to be 1 of those parents to oversteps their boundaries but am I right that yelling at a 1 year old is dumb af?
