Conan: The Brides of Crom by John Langan - Has anyone on the sub read it yet?

Langan is one of the best current cosmic horror authors, if he's successful here he might become a contender for one of the best current weird fiction authors period, so I'm rather eager to know if this was a fruitful endeavor.

What happens to strategic ressource deposits and planet modifiers when you terraform planets into volcanic planets?

Pretty much the title: I'm currently on an infernal galvanic playthrough, and I'm wondering what happens to planet modifiers and strategic ressource deposits. Volatile motes aren't a problem, but rare crystals and exotic gases could be if terraforming the planet into a volcanic one removes their deposits.

EDIT: Okay, question answered. Thanks for the replies, folks!

My (work-in-progress) 2-3e setting continuation preview: Revised and expanded horror subgenres

So for my setting continuation I decided to crib one idea I found pretty good from 5e Ravenloft, and that is using subgenres as shorthand descriptors/guidelines for each Domain; however, I found the list given somewhat lacking, so I've decided to expand on it, and revise a one or two of the extant ones, to help get a better idea of the dominant strains of horror in a given Domain as well as have more variety. Thoughts, comments and questions welcome.

And now, without further ado, the list:

  • Body horror
  • Cosmic horror
  • Dark fantasy
  • Disaster horror
  • Folk horror
  • Ghost stories
  • Gothic horror
  • Horror noir/urban horror
  • Military horror
  • Nautical horror
  • Psychological horror
  • Religious horror
  • Slasher horror
  • Survival horror

My (work-in-progress) 2-3e setting continuation preview: Revised Vlad Drakov, along with personalised Path of Corruption: Path of the Warlord (3.5 rules)

So, as a preview tidbit for that setting continuation I'm constantly blathering about, here's my revised, advanced, 775 BC version of Vlad Drakov, along with the Path of Corruption that I was inspired to build specifically for him, Path of the Warlord. He was built using his Gazetteer II statblock, with elements from the books Dragonlance Campaign Setting, Complete Warrior and Legacy of the Blood. Main changes are his increased levels (he was very busy), slightly more powerful magic items, and shuffling his feats around to be more representative IMO. There are also some interesting bits of foreshadowing in his flavor text...

Kingfuhrer Vlad Drakov, the Hawk, Darklord of Falkovnia

Male human Fighter 16/Legendary Tactician 4*: CR 21; SZ M Humanoid (human) (6’3’’); HD 16D10+48+4d8+12; hp 188; Init +1 (Dex); Spd 20ft; AC 33 (touch 14, flat-footed 31); Atk +29/+24/+19/+14 (1d6+10/15-20, +3 scimitar), +25/+20/+15/+10 (1d8+8/x3, +2 mighty composite longbow [Str 18], +2 arrows); SA Hawk’ Cry (DC 24); SQ SR 25; AL NE; SV Fort +20, Ref +10, Will +10; Str 20, Dex 12, Con 16, Int 16, Wis 12, Cha 18

Skills and Feats: Climb +7, Craft (bowyer-fletcher) +10, Craft (weaponsmith) +10, Diplomacy +10, Handle Animal +13, Intimidate +9, Jump +7, Knowledge (history) +8, Knowledge (local) +8, Listen +8, Ride +12, Sense Motive +10, Spot +8, Survival +4, Swim +12; Cavalry Charger**, Cleave, Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Great Cleave, Hawk’s Cry***, Improved Critical (scimitar), Inspired Leadership***, Leadership, Mounted Combat, Power Attack, Quick Draw, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge, Trample, Weapon Focus (scimitar), Weapon Specialization (scimitar)

Languages: Falkovnian(n); Balok, Darkonese, Mordentish

Signature possessions: +3 full plate, +3 large steel shield, +3 scimitar, +2 mighty composite longbow (18 Str), +2 arrows, amulet of natural armor +3, boots of speed, cloak of resistance +3, gauntlets of ogre power, ring of freedom of movement, ring of protection +3, rod of flailing

Leadership score: 25, cohort level: 17, followers: 135 lvl 1, 13 lvl 2, 7 lvl 3, 4 lvl 4, 2 lvl 5, 2 lvl 6

*: Dragonlance Campaign Setting

**: Complete Warrior

***: Legacy of the Blood

Now well and truly a centenarian, Vlad Drakov’s countenance remains that of a man half his age, if a bit more battle-scarred, and his vigor that of a man barely a third of it. His flowing, unkempt hair and beard have more gray in them, and his hard, steely-eyed, hawk-nosed face has more wrinkles, but one could be forgiven for thinking them disguise or illusion after watching the Kingfuhrer of Falkovnia disembowel enemies with the flick of a wrist, ride hard to lead a devastating cavalry charge of Talons and Raptor Knights, or avail himself of his right to invoke the tradition of First Night. He habitually is found dressed in full harness, ready for battle at any given time save when asleep in a secure location. Despite his successes of the last 20 years, his mood usually alternates between somber thoughtfulness, dour sulking, and barely repressed rage; woe to any who crosses him in any way during the latter.

The last two and a half decades have been very busy for Vlad Drakov, but even moreso an exercise in frustration. He modernized his realm and armies in an astounding time and financed innovations that made Falkovnia militarily on-par with the Treaty of Four Towers nations, but had to embrace the firearm, magic, and other sciences that geld true warriors to do so; his armies triumphed on the field of battle against three of those nations, but against fops and women even victory is bitter; his victories brought great spoils, power and prosperity to the Land of the Hawk, but that power and prosperity is maintained through such unmanly means as diplomacy, subterfuge and commerce; and worst of all, even all of those grievances put together pale before the greatest: even as lacking as they are, those victories have brought him in contact with the lands of another wizard-tyrant and lord of the dead, before whom his his own power and accomplishments are so much dust and ash. And so even though the name Drakov once again commands fear, he is still denied what he truly desires, and the Dark Powers laugh at the mercenary king’s torment.

Path of the Warlord

Step 1: +2 Charisma bonus; must roll a Wisdom check (DC 11) to engage in non-hostile negotiations.
Step 2: Gain Leadership feat, ignoring prerequisites, +4 bonus to leadership score if already possessing the feat, Leadership score no longer subject to penalties; must engage in gratuitous cruelty towards non-followers/non-cohorts 1/day or be sickened until act of cruelty is committed or 24 hours pass.
Step 3: Class abilities making oneself and others resistant/immune to fear effects (including fear and terror checks) function properly in Ravenloft; must cause at least one creature per day of Int 3+ to roll a Fear or Terror check or become Exhausted until a creature is made to roll the check or 24 hours pass.
Step 4: magic resistance 5+character level; cannot voluntarily lower it.
Step 5: Immunity to mind-affecting effects as per permanent mind blank spell, plus leadership followers and cohorts get a reroll to Will saves one round after being affected; must make a Wisdom check (DC 20) to retreat from battle as long as they have soldiers remaining.

My (work-in-progress) 2-3e setting continuation VS known 5e material: Part 2

Sorry for the long wait; finally got up to writing the followup to this post. So, continuing where we left off, here are the rest of the major VRgtR Domains, and if and how they have a place in my 2-3e setting continuation, and maybe the minor Domains mentioned therein.

5e Domains, what's left in, what's changed, what's left out(cont'd):

  • I'Cath: Oooo boy. Hot take: I actually like the old version (though I'm very much aware that I'm in the minority here). Not only that, but I hate, hate, hate how they nerfed Tsien Chiang - in the old version she was a 20th-level necromancer who could turn into a treant! she could literally punch at the same level as Meredoth and Azalin! Don't try and talk to me about making the setting more women-friendly if you nerf the most powerful female spellcaster in it. The new version of the Domain is fine, but is one of those so divorced from the original it can easily be spun off into its own thing - in this case by making the Darklord and her backstory more in line with Wu Zetian's (sole Empress Regnant in all of Chinese history, not a very nice person), and since we talking Tang dynasty the invasion will be from steppe nomads led by not!An Lushan (they may or may not be relevant anymore). Just have some names to change, mix up Nu!Tsien Chiang's daughters thing so it's different (and that thing with the gold dragon as it almost makes her too sympathetic IMO), and voilà. Also as both Domains will end up part of the same East Asian cluster (SPOILERS!), maybe the two women Darklords are penpals LOL. Also plan to expand old I'Cath so that it's bigger, more populous, and can do more with it than just high-level weekends in hell (it will be an incredibly lethal Domain still, though).
  • Kalakeri: again, a Domain that's now unrecognizable, but even moreso given the name change. That said, it's overall a good one and so I'm transplanting it lock, stock and barrel to the Verdurous Lands Cluster, east of Sri Raji. Only changes are to Ramya's siblings - her brother obviously can't have the same name as the neighbouring Darklord, and Reeva won't be an arcanoloth anymore as that's OG Inajira over in Barovia's prerogative; I'm thinking of making her a dark naga (which would give her reincarnation abilities baked in, same as her rakshasa brother). Oh and Niranjan's gonna be there too; more on it later.
  • Kartakass: Sorry but the old version stays, Harkon Lukas is a wolfwere bard not a loup-garou, and both Casimir and Akriel are greater wolfweres who hate(d) their dad. Maybe crib one or two ideas if I like; gonna be stuff happening in the Domain, but overall gonna remain a backwater - it's in Harkon's curse. He'll be fairly pissed at events conspiring to ensure it's even less likely to lose its backwater status, what with less-than-pleasant new neighbors...
  • Lamordia: Honestly, same here as for Kartakass; in this case, though, the Domain will be much more tied to pivotal events and grow in importance, and there will be some rather significant changes, such as Ludendorf having gained a university of rising prominence (of course that means more mad science), and the establishment of a new, fast-growing city at the Musarde Delta, a combination of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, really, indicative in large part of the success and increased power of (ironically) another Domain with whom Lamordia has strong dealings; speaking of, I may be keeping Victor Mordenheim and Adam, but there's already a perfectly viable stand-in for Viktra, a scientist who's created among other things a green glowing reagent ensuring soldiers who take it can fight beyond death, is working for said other Domain (they finance her work and give her test subjects no questions asked), who's in a loveless mariage of convenience but who's recently fallen for a charming graverobber business partner with a naggingly familiar name, Elise... A scientist named Artisia Juvenoth (if you get it, you get it).
  • Mordent: There was barely any change to it in the VRG, so no real changes needed there. Though it will gain quite a bit of visible prominence in the Core, and even more occult (both in the 'hidden' and 'supernatural' senses) prominence from certain events, with Godefroy gaining something of a serious power boost along the way.
  • Richemulot: Hate what they did to the Domain and hate what they did to Jacqueline. I mean seriously? "[...] her certainty is born of unchecked privilege..."? This is basically character assassination through presentism and looks there merely to check off an item on a list. OG Jacqueline is so much more compelling than that caricature. Also, more rat monsters, but less plague - more interesting IMO, and the Domain is still gonna be the most populous of those of the old Treaty of the Four Towers, and will with some exceptions be mostly unchanged from the OG version. Well, except for a new religious "revival" engineered by Jacqueline, who's welcomed in (well, more like gave them incentive to set up shop even more) the Borcan, Mordentish and Dementlieuse sects of Ezra, for her own reasons...
  • Tepest: While I like the Wicker Man/Midsommar vibes, IMO it strikes the unfortunate middle ground of being too familiar to be spun off on its own, and too changed to really use its elements in the OG Domain - I like the Tepestani inquisition, and I prefer the sisters Mindefisk to all be active. Also, all those references aimed at implying Arak/the Shadow Rift/Keening are part of Tepest did it no favors as I want to keep those separate, and I have plans for the Shadow Rift in particular. Oh and also keeping OG Castle Island and its Darklord. So basically a continuation of the OG Tepest, with as always a few changes due to time and events.
  • Valachan: On the one hand, a "hunting the most dangerous game" Domain and Darklord is a great idea; on the other, it had pretty much nothing to do with the OG Valachan and Urik Von Karkov. Keeping the OG Valachan, but spinning Nu!Valachan as a separate Domain due to having nothing in common besides some names with the OG; Chakuna will still be the Darklord of course. It'll still be an Island of Terror, covered in the same gazetteer as the Verdurous Lands (which as mentioned under Kalakeri will be expanded with both Kalakeri and Niranjan) du to climactic/thematic similarity.

The place of "minor" Domains from VRgtR:

Gonna try and keep these short, but they run the gamut from "yeah, this is good" to "nah, just keep the OG" to (for some of those with no 2-3e equivalent) "Nope, not using this. At all."

  • Cyre 1313: Fine idea for a travelling Pocket Domain, but needs major development. Keeping it but won't get to it anytime soon.
  • Forlorn: Essentially unchanged save making Tristen "just" a dhampir (vampyres will be a thing), his minions goblins rather than goblyns (I'm sensing a pattern here...) and making his backstory needlessly more sympathetic - the druids tried to save/purify him, not cast him out. OG all the way, including the time fuckery and undead Nessie, plus a few developments.
  • Ghastria: Same as OG, so nothing to change... will be a component of a historical in-joke I find very amusing, though.
  • G'henna: One or two needless changes to Yagno's backstory, otherwise unchanged from OG, so OG it is... with one BIG surprise.
  • Invidia: I mean, I'm keeping the OG Gentleman Caller, and Malocchio has a role to play in other events, so yeah, keeping the OG Domain, no helicopter stage mom Gabrielle.
  • Keening: Identical to OG, 'nuff said.
  • Klorr: Eeehh, I love cosmic horror, but this feels way too cosmic. Also, cosmic horror Domains should have appropriate Darklords, and those should rarely be humanoids unless they have a very good reason. Not using it.
  • Markovia: The Domain is unchanged, but Nu!Frantisek Markov is much less compelling and repugnant than the OG IMO, so OG all the way.
  • Nightmare Lands: Remember what I said about how cosmic horror Domains should rarely have humanoid Darklords? Here's another example. Plus the OG Domain has the very cool Abber Nomads, which I fully intend to make Australian Aborigine-like (because Dreamtime). Nightmare Court/Man stays Darklord.
  • Niranjan: No 2-3e equivalent, so can pretty much be used as-is; definitely going to need fleshing out for both Domain and Darklord, for which I already have some ideas (which admittedly will make Sarthak VERY beefy). And it goes without saying that, as a neighbor of Kalakeri, it'll also be part of the Verdurous Lands Cluster.
  • Odiare: Almost identical save a nonsensical spelling change that makes it sound French rather than Italian. So OG it is.
  • The Rider's Bridge: Temu Endless Road. Pass. On an ironic note, the 4e Endless Road is the one I'll be using as it's the best one (a rarity for 4e, an edition which I generally dislike).
  • Risibilos: Still a part of Liffe, not much more to say. High probability of Lyron Evensong having managed to subjugate some/all of the other Demilords, thus becoming the true Darklord of Liffe.
  • Scaena: Pretty much unchanged, except for another useless incomprehensible spelling change, so it is what it is.
  • Sea of Sorrows: Pieter van Riese is more interesting than Pietra, and besides since I keep the Core as-is not much will change... except several more Domains in its waters, including Saidra's reworked one and Markovia. Island Domains mentioned in the entry below.
    • Blaustein: No overthrowing of Bluebeard by his wives, but a serious cultural change to the island, making it far more welcoming to foreigners. This, of course, helps Bluebeard find a bride when the time comes...
    • Dominia: Still one of the Core's premier asylums, and no, not all patients are versions of Heinfroth; has had a boost in traffic/clientele from the new Domains and upheavals.
    • Isle of the Ravens: It's not even in the right godsdamned sea. That said, will be seriously expanded upon, bringing it more in line with its inspiration Gormenghast... at a nightmarish price.
    • The Lighthouse and Vigilant's Bluff: IIRC no actual equivalents in 2-3e, might or might not do something with them.
  • Shadowlands: That's a Cluster of three Domains, not just one, thank you very much; also, Ebonbane isn't just some cursed sword as The Horrors Within seem to be going with; justice for Lussimar. In any case, got something big planned for the Cluster, which is a bad omen for most of the Domains of Dread...
  • Souragne: No, Anton Misroi was not a prison warden. He was a planter and slave owner. Because slavery is evil. And besides his Domain is one of the very few alongside OG Falkovnia that even bring up that specific evil so it's not like it's pervasive/saturated like it is in, say Dark Sun. On top of that, it's in Anton's backstory - Souragne is classist as hell, but no slaves. So keeping OG Souragne and Misroi.
  • Staunton Bluffs: OG more interesting, and besides, gonna do something morbidly funny (but with terrifying implications, which will we realised in the heart of darkness) with it.
  • Tovag: This one was supposedly destroyed when Vecna, then-Darklord of the other Domain of the Burning Peaks cluster, broke out of the jail that is the demiplane in a mad bid to rule reality. Won't "officially" be a thing, but I will make it a dread possibility that it still exists in a remote corner of the demiplane, still futilely sending armies into the Mists to fight a foe that's left Kas behind as so much useless baggage.
  • Vhage Agency: Not from any previous version, but has potential as a pocket Domain so I'll likely integrate it; I can see a rivalry forming between Flimira and Alanik Ray.
  • Zherisia: Like with the Shadowlands, this is a Cluster, not a single Domain. Also got something big planned for this Cluster, and in the same vein as what I'd planned for the Shadowlands, though the outcome is less immediately/obviously bad for the demiplane.

So, that's all the Domains covered by VRG, methinks; feel free to comment or ask questions about anything, including The Horrors Within, or at least what we know of it.

EDIT: Forgot Niranjan LOL. Adding it now.

My (work-in-progress) 2-3e setting continuation VS known 5e material: what gets adapted and what doesn't

So, I've been talking in replies for a good while now how I've disliked a lot of the changes that 5e brought to the setting canon, and that I was working on my own setting update, which was a continuation of the 2-3e setting and timeline; well, now I'm finally going to talk about it more in-depth, starting with what elements from 5e I'm keeping, which I'm modifying, and which I'm tossing out entirely of my own version. I will also answer questions when I can, though without getting into spoilery territory quite yet, except for a few tidbits to whet the appetites of those interested in knowing more. So, without further ado:

(Also, yes, the scope is utterly ridiculous. Wait 'till I post about the 4 new Superclusters I have planned.)

The Core is BACK, baby!

First things first: the Core. Breaking it up (and the Clusters as well) for the sake of isolation always seemed like an extremely bad call to me. It hurt setting cohesion and verisimilitude (which I'd argue is even more important in Ravenloft, as making a setting feel 'real' helps player engagement IMO) in favor of isolation that was unneeded (we already had Darklords closing borders and Islands of Terror for that) and even detrimental (seriously, not ALL Domains should run off "nightmare logic" - this ties back to verisimilitude as well).

So, not only am I keeping the Core, I daresay am expanding it. By a LOT. Over 15 Domains old and new will find themselves absorbed by the nucleus of the Domains of Dread. This is, of course, a Bad Thing. But also material outside the scope of this specific post, so expect another post about the Core expansion (and with one exception, Cluster expansions) later on.

Time flies:

The setting's date will be advanced to 775 BC (Barovian Calendar), to accomodate the numerous changes. I figure 20 years from when the starting date for 3e Ravenloft was is a good timeskip; I'm even planning 1-shot adventures taking place during the gap, to both introduce some of the setting changes and to have PCs participate in pivotal moments of recent Ravenloft history, small and large. I have already two fairly developped outlines for such scenarios.

Amber Temple, vestiges, and all that nonsense:

As you may surmise, I'm not a fan. IMO it both cheapens and potentially explains far too much about the Dark Powers, so I'm ignoring these elements and removing them entirely. Same goes for the cult of Osybus and the Ulmist inquisition - there are more than enough secret societies that can play the same roles, and also they feel clumsy and ham-fisted to me (seriously, Osybus was a lich who became a Dark Power? The hell?), plus they're superfluous to Strahd's backstory especially considering I'm retconning pretty much all his 5e-exclusive elements (more on that later).

5e Domains, what's left in, what's changed, what's left out:

So now on to the meat of this post/thread: the Domains themselves, starting with the ones more fleshed out in Van Righten's Guide to Ravenloft:

  • Barovia: The one that started it all. Frankly I'll have to reread through Curse of Strahd to be sure what I keep and what I don't as that book makes it the most detailed Domain bar none, but I can already say that the amber temple and Baba Lysaga are out; I actually like Baba Lysaga, but unfortunately her very existence undermines Strahd's agency, and if one Darklord should represent how Darklords are usually the sole ones responsible for their damnation, it's Strahd. Him having been destined/guided towards his dark fate is a terrible idea IMO (he shouldn't become the puppet of dark forces until after becoming a Darklord). The Wizard of Vines will very likely make it. Also, none of that "everybody can be Tatyana" thing, obviousy; Tara Kolyana (her current as of 755 incarnation) will have an important role in the timeline - and is going to be in one of the "history-making" scenarios mentioned earlier. And speaking of history-making, Strahd is now no longer content to wait and scheme; he is now quite proactive, and the Core shall tremble...
  • Bluetspur: One of the least changed Domains in 5e, so not much to change. Vampiric illithids will keep their 2-3e origins and will be a menace to the still-living mind flayers, though, and the God-Brain will be on the same awesome level of power as 2-3e era elder brains (IE above 20), making its forays into the rest of the demiplane that much more plausible; its story will be more detailed, and tie into illithid history as described in the 3.5 supplement Lords of Madness. There'll be the 2-3e Domain's monsters, plus a few new ones like illithidae. Still one of the more horrible places of the entire demiplane to end up in.
  • Borca: On the one hand, the changes to the Dark Twins' personalities, histories and circumstances are kinda ass (Ma Gurl Ivana having a hard time being in charge due to a bunch of sexist ponces? Bitch please. She'd have poisoned all their asses into compliance.); on the other, their new focuses are great - so while both will still be poisoners, Ivana will have new plant-related abilities such as breeding and controlling plant monsters (I just now realized this makes her somewhat similar to Poison Ivy LOL), and Ivan will have the ability to craft clockpunk constructs of all kinds. I'll also probably keep his descent into physical and mental decrepitude because it fits him so well - the illustration of him screaming in his clockwork pram is hilarious IMO and one of the very few good illustrations from VRGtR. Also, the place will have been hammered by invasion, completing its 'Renaissance Italy' vibe (those who remember the Kargatane's planned metaplot continuation know what I'm talking about).
  • Carnival: ...Yeah no sorry the OG Carnival is just so much better - there's a whole (very awesome) late 2e supplement dedicated to it (and yes, I know they're still very similar, but as they say the devil's in the details)! MAYBE the Litwick Market or something similar will be added as a new feature, maybe not. Also, Isolde won't be a 5e-style eladrin. She'll be an old-school, pre-4e celestial Eladrin, and a ghaele at that, same as she was back then. This is a very important metaplot point, and will tie in to both the multiverse and to arguably the greatest evil in the Lands of Mist. Oh, and the OG Gentleman Caller is gonna be out and about because of course he is. Incubi are assholes like that, and the Gentleman Caller is one of the worst. Not gonna sugarcoat him.
  • Darkon: HAAAAHAHAHAHAno. Ixnay on the issolutionday. I dislike all of the "inheritors" in any case. Darkon will continue on relatively normally, and relatively untouched in its splendid isolation by events of the last 20 years, except for the expected rise in power of the Nevuchar Springs sect of Ezra, and some trouble in the southeast hinterlands that'll generally be more consequential for its neighbors Nova Vaasa and Tepest. Things are (relatively) calm in Darkon, and Azalin has had virtually nothing to do with the upheavals elsewhere in the Core. This, of course, should worry you. Oh and Necropolis (and Death) is still around and kicking. Also, Ebb and Gloom's clutch has hatched...
  • Dementlieu: Now we get into a Domain so far removed from the original it might as well be a whole new place. Which is why, given how I like the OG Dementlieu and have plans for it, I've done exactly that, with the 5e version (still haven't found a replacement name) becoming a small island city off OG Dementlieu's coast. Most of the themes will be intact - in fact, as the long-brewing Dementlieuse Revolution finally happened, it'll be a natural refuge for the beleaguered upper classes - out of the frying pan, into the fire, basically. One thing that I'll swap out is the Masque of the Red Death theme, as that's already touched on by Sanguinia (yeah I'm going there, eventually), and going with another red-coded theme - a dark, gothic take on the Scarlet Pimpernel, to tie into the Dementlieuse Revolution (OK, also because I thought it would be really funny on a meta level). Also, the Mother of Tears Cathedral's name will not be innocuous. At all (horror movie fans may know what I mean...).
  • Falkovnia: Zombie apocalypse is all well and good, but a Domain specifically about all-too-human evils is far too good an idea to throw out, so fascist dystopia led by a warmongering sadistic racist misogynistic human monster it shall remain; in fact it'll be the source of much of the developments (usually negative) of most surrounding Domains; even Darkon will be (somewhat) affected, though to a much lesser scale (Azalin deemed it both useful and entertaining to cater to a few of the mercenary king's ambitions, especially as he remains a non-threat to him). The Domain will actually be stronger and more prosperous than ever, but of course this will be built on the death and suffering of countless thousands. The groundworks for a potential zombie apocalypse will be present, though, in the form of a certain green, glowing reagent injected into most of Vlad Drakov's soldiers, reanimating them to fight and die a second time if killed in combat... (again, horror movie fans may know what I mean). Also, an outstanding up-and-coming warrior and commander, Vladeska, was recently noticed by Drakov, who in light of her extraordinary martial and tactical prowess he begrudgingly both recognized as his daughter (she's a byblow of his adherence to the right of first night/droit du seigneur) and elevated to the unprecedented rank for a woman of falkfuhrer...
  • Har'Akir: I vastly prefer OG Ankhtepot's history and curse, plus I find the attempt to rename Egyptian gods in an attempt to not offend anyone silly (seriously, I was able to guess their "real" names at first glance). That said, I do think that the OG Domain is way too small, empty and lightly populated, so it'll get a major increase in both size, number of features and population... as well as potential rivals and treacherous vassals.
  • Hazlan: This one's kinda ironic, as I both prefer the OG version (same for the Darklord; OG Hazlik is much more compelling IMO, whereas Nu!Hazlik comes across as a stereotypical "depraved homosexual" villain from bigoted media of past decades (80s/early 90s especially) and it will be one of the Core Domains that will have changed the most; I'm literally making it the swords & sorcery/weird fiction Domain, inspired by Robert E. Howard and Clark Ashton Smith. There'll still be a disaster horror element, especially as this time, the supernatural event that was a catalyst for many changes in the Demiplane of Dread was Hazlik's attempted Mulan genocide spell; unsurprisingly it didn't work as intended. A large portion of Rashemi used the upheaval to rebel and now eke a life as barbarians in the hinterlands, the shift to the planar fabric attracted ever deadlier ethereal predators, and there's religious schisms going on, among many, many, MANY other things. I'll also be tying the place closer to its Byzantine/Ottoman inspirations with stuff like Varangian guard and Janissary equivalents because why not.

...Aaaannd this post is long enough as it is, I'd say; I'll type up a part 2 later, covering the rest of the main Domains and likely some of the less-described ones as well. questions and comments are welcome.
