My humble 4k and Legacy format collection. Organized loosely by mood. And yes, I have a working VCR!

My humble 4k and Legacy format collection. Organized loosely by mood. And yes, I have a working VCR!

Figured I’ve lurked long enough it was my turn to post my humble 4k and legacy format collection. It’s addicting now that I have a full home theater setup. Good Dolby Atmos mixes are some of my favorite to watch now. Bonus: I do have a working VCR though after my old 32” LCD bit the dust a couple years ago I need to get another legacy TV for my VHS tapes since they look like garbage on modern TVs.

Collection is loosely organized by movies I’d consider watching in similar moods, with my more intense movies and legacy collection on the top shelf and out of reach of my kids. Resident Evil Blu-rays actually live in a storage box since even the covers are graphic for my kids. Star Wars VHS on the right shelf are pre-Special Edition and as about as close to theater original format as you can get until Disney hopefully re-releases the theatrical edition next year (fingers crossed).

Thanks for checking out the post!

OG Gen1 Appreciation post - Off-roading Hollister Hills and unrelatedly got a new Gen2 subframe - I now can keep her long term with peace of mind!

Just got a new Gen2 subframe under warranty. Super stoked. Shelia and I are now in for the long haul! Apparently wasn’t cracked but something wrong with a suspension mount that caused a few suspension and alignment issues. Took tons of troubleshooting with the SC but she drives like new now. Rivian really should just do a customer satisfaction swap out. Bite bullet and admit the welded subframe was a mistake.

Pic above is from a recent trip to Hollister Hills off-road park. She tackled all blues and most of the single black diamond trails with ease. Almost got stuck on a single black with ruts that have worn into double diamond territory, but made it out literally riding on my rock sliders (which now need a new coat of paint). Was definitely a scenario where a front mounted winch would have been awesome (was going down a hill and was at the bottom, so a rear mounted winch wouldn’t have done anything).

Love this truck over 4 years later!

Best Quick and Cheaper (~$15) Clam Chowder Bread Bowls?

Ok, relatively new local here. Lived here about a year and planning to be here for the long haul (20-30 years job and retirement willing).

Admission: I love clam chowder sourdough bread bowls. I know, it’s what my family and tourists ask for when they visit, but I legit love them!

So, I’m looking for local’s recommendations on good to great clam chowder sourdough bread bowls in the area between Monterey and Moss Landing that are ~$15 and under.

I’ve found Sea Harvest Moss Landing has sourdough bread bowls for $16, but I’m hoping there are some restaurants people can recommend that’s not a $25-30 bowl at a tourist restaurant. So no, not fisherman’s grotto…

I searched this subreddit and all the posts were for BEST clam chowder at sit down restaurants, but I’m looking for some places I can stop be weekly and not break the bank. Counter service would be fine if the quality is good!

Bonus if they’re either near Dennis the Menace park (so I can grab a bowl on my lunch break) or along the 1 from Monterey to Moss Landing (so I can grab a bowl on my commute home).

Thanks in advance!

Shout out to local Electrician at Wayfinder Electric

I’ve lived here for a year and have hired or used the services of numerous contractors. Some are good, and some are miss, or some are good but from way out of town and I’d rather support local contractors.

I just wanted to give a shout out to David at Wayfinder Electric. I’ve hired him for several electrical projects now and his services have been great. He’s super friendly, knowledgeable, and great to work with. Bonus he’s based out of Marina so a true local contractor to the area. Anyways, just wanted to share positive local experience!
