what overdrive/distortion would be good for a to here knows when tone?

it sounds like a very clear overdrive almost, i mean a spx into green russian sounds amazing, but it’s not as soft as the tone on to here knows when.

suggestions for a drive/distortion pedal for shoegaze?

i originally had a rat but i didn’t like how much high end there was, sounded kinda fizzy and flat to me. i’ve now had a fat rat for a couple of years but have just never really got along with it either. the fat setting kinda just sounds like you’re throwing a blanket over a a regular rat and the stock setting obviously just sounds like a rat. the difference the mofset setting adds is minimal.

i use a russian muff as my fuzz and it’s my favorite sound ever, but i just want something a little more tame that still sounds similar. ive heard a couple people say rats are better for chord clarity compared to muffs but for me it seems like it’s the complete opposite. i hate the chord clarity i get with the fat rat whether its on stock or fat mode.

been thinking about maybe trying an ocd but am worried it won’t get heavy enough, was maybe thinking a blues driver? i do like playing a lot of mbv style stuff. any outside of the box recommendations?

mainly play through a jc-120. i do like how the fat rat sounds more through my sovtek but i unfortunately don’t get to play that amp as much.
