what should I focus on as a rising sophomore?

title!

I am aiming for t20s but I am lwk unsure of how I should be spending my time sophomore year. Is now the best time to start any other ecs before junior year and grind for the sat? I’d appreciate any advice 😭

I got rejected from all my summer programs this year lol, but I am grinding for NSDA speaking and service award so it’s okay (cope lmao). I also have a job, but that is pretty much it for new ecs in the summer.

NSDA Speaking and Service Award?

Title!

I received an email saying I'm very close to receiving the speaking and service award? It claims it is prestigious lol. Is this just a fake award for "participation" (aka point inflation) or should I take this seriously and try hit 200 by the end of July? I'm *trying* to lock in for tourneys next year but with my other extracurriculars and coursework I'm not sure how well it is going to go haha.

will I ruin my chances if I apply for a random major within L & S?

title!

sorry if the title doesn't make much sense!!

i'm applying public health for most privates, but for ucb specifically i was wondering if i should apply for econ instead. do the ucs look at major choice specifically? "random" as in doesn't align with my ecs at all lol. i'm confused on whether they accept based on how an applicant fits within L & S as a whole, or if it is still based on major.

my ecs are definitely leaning more towards public health than econ, but i'm interested in econ as a potential career path. if someone could clear up this confusion that would be great! :)

ideas for business/econ ecs that aren't fbla/deca/starting a business?

title!

my school has some very strange restrictions, so starting a fbla/deca isn't really an option unfortunately. i also don't think i have the time to start a business (esp not a fully functioning one) so that's kinda also out of the question.

i'm a rising sophomore - this is the perfect time for me to start locking in some ecs that i can continue throughout hs but i'm super lost... i'm hoping to find a way to get an internship for next summer, but confused on what i should do during the school year. i'd srsly appreciate anything!

Runners on here with endo?

Title!

I‘m a teenager (17) and I’ve been trying to get into running - I’m relatively athletic and swim competitively. However, I can barely last a mile without experiencing extreme cramping and even dizziness that forces me to lie on the ground for a bit till I feel better lol. As a child, I used to be able to run just fine and honestly since then I’ve only become more athletic so I didn’t expect to have such a horrible reaction to just running a mile. Should I get checked for endo? I also have really heavy periods but this year they started becoming regular.

extracurriculars for econ majors?

title!

i feel like i'm drawn to econ, but currently my ecs fall more under medicine + law. what ecs fit under econ that i should do as a sophomore? my school doesn't have a deca/fbla and i'm not able to start one due to some weird ahh restrictions.

how prestigious is NSDA AAA?

title!

i'm currently grinding for nsda points + volunteer hours heh and was wondering how prestigious is the nsda aaa award? if i don't earn any major awards (high placement at nats, toc, etc) would this award be a good thing to add for college applications to top schools? i know some consider it fake as there is point inflation but i don't think colleges know that (?). i personally think it sounds great on paper, especially if i'm not able to win anything significant by next year. is it worth the effort?

how can i improve as a rising sophomore?

title!

as a freshman i was admittedly very unfocused with my ecs lol but i'm hoping to change that as a sophomore.

as a freshman - rising sophomore summer:

jv sports

varsity speech and debate - mentoring, grinding for nsda points, i'm hoping for more awards here

vp of girl up chapter

domestic violence youth leader

pr chair of a health literacy initative

teen community emergency response team - i did this like once lol

instrument... doesn't even count tho lol since i barely practice

i got rejected from all my programs this summer unfortunately. but i'm applying for some fall ones rn!!

i want to major in biology + economics, or something similar! my school has some very strange restrictions so a hosa, deca, or fbla chapter can't be started.

jobs for a double major in econ + public health?

title!

people who have done both (or something similar), how difficult is it? i'm hoping to get into medical device sales/biotech sales/health economist etc but honestly don't think i can handle biology + econ at the same time. how rigorous will it be? i'm open to doing business/econ + something else but i'm really passionate about the healthcare as well which is why i'm leaning towards ph as well. i'm trying to be niche but not too niche, if that makes sense. i live in the bay area and hope to live here forever, so i want a high paying job.

the r/economics and r/business subreddit has some weird restrictions so i couldn't post there - should i do econ or business? which would be most optimal for job security and versatility in this crazy job market? i personally think i would learn a lot more with an econ degree as just based on what i've heard (my assumption could be wrong though) business is a lot less quantitatively demanding and places a larger emphasis on skills like communication - one of my stronger suits.

i'd appreciate any insight!!

is asdrp pay to play?

title!

i'm a rising sophomore with no research or anything yet so i'm hoping to get started through asdrp. would it be worth it? i'm pre-med so i'd probably join a life science/biomedical research lab. however, during rush hour it would take me an over an HOUR to get to the lab - i'm under the impression that in-person is way more productive than a virtual lab.

i'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with the program! :)

Should I quit piano if I am bad at it?

Title!

I have been playing piano for 8 years now. I genuinely hate it sm and truly have no interest in it, it’s honestly just to keep my parents happy. i haven't completed any piano tests, but i think I could test into grade 6 (yeah i know haha) if I practiced and worked harder than I do right now. if there isn’t any potential for rewards, is it something that I should continue for commitment purposes or should I just drop it? I’m a rising sophomore so I’ll have bigger ecs to worry about. Since I don’t practice much, I devote like max 2 hours a week to piano.
