Will I be disappointed with a WD007 compared to my Sugess “sub”?

I have a Sugess SU126610LN, my first Chinese watch. It’s absolutely beautiful. I can’t imagine how paying thousands more would produce any more fine of a watch.

I also bought a WD1863 “speedy” chrono. It’s nice, but it feels a bit… like a toy? I don’t know the best way to describe it. They’re clearly different styles, but they also seem to be on a different level when it comes to heft, fit/finish, etc.

I love the look of the WD007 (blue) and I’m waiting for it to come back into stock, but my question is, will I ultimately be disappointed with it compared to the Sugess?

For comparison, I also have A SH09 “Murph” and it also feels like a lovely watch with great finishing, not “toy” like.

I can’t put my finger on it, but something about the WS1863 is close, but not quite there.

Do you pay for watch service every 3-5 years (for automatics) or maintain them yourself?

I called my local watch shop, and they charge $250-$300 CAD for a service. This is the same as what I actually paid for my watch. I imagine this is true of many Chinese watch options.

Am I missing something, or is this the way it rolls?

How frequently do brands like San Martin and Sugess re-stock?

I’m new to the world of Chinese Watches, but i notice that there are several models listed as “out of stock” with many of the brands.

I did see a note somewhere that there was a temporary shortage of movements, but in general how frequently do items re-stock vs stay discontinued and wait for a refresh? Is stock low because we’re just coming off the AliEx summer sale?

Looking at something like the San Martin SN008.

Is the WDB002 ("Upgraded Short OTF Adjustable Clasp") appropriate for a new WD1863 with Split Pins?

I'm out of my depth here. I just received a WD1863, black dial with new split pin bracelet. I have a 6.5" wrist. Is the WDB002 (For WD Speedy Split Pin Bracelet) the one that I want?

Is there a short-list of generally accepted "best" homages for particular iconic watches?

I've just dipped my toe into the Chinese watch market. I've never been a watch connoisseur, but I know that I liked the classic style of the iconic "Sub" and had no desire (or financing) to buy one. I did a little research here and elsewhere and settled on the Sugess Sub v2. It's just arrived a day or two ago and I'm more than impressed. It's a thing of beauty.

I also have coming soon a SH09 (Murph), which I'm excited to try.

My question is this; it sounds like there's a shortlist of Sub homages that are "best"; Sugess and San Martin usually end up at the top of the lists I've seen. For other iconic watch styles (I know that's a very broad category), are there any generally accepted top manufacturers (available on AliEx) for specific homages?

Lots to learn, and I'm a little scared that I've opened a door for myself when I look down at the Sugess Sub on my wrist.

Just picked up my first Chinese watch, A Sugess ‘Sub’ V2. Would the Watchdives ‘Speedy’ wear similarly on the wrist?

I just bought my first Chinese “homage” from AliEx, a Sugess Sub V2. I’m used to a larger watch, but I think my wrist is suited fine for the size of the Sugess (6.75” wrist)

Now I’m curious about a Chrono “Speedy” homage. Rather than chance an order, can anyone who has both watches tell me if the WD 1863 would be expected to “wear” similarly on the wrist?

The case on the Sugess is 40.5 mm and the WatchDives is 41 mm, so I’d expect it would?

Anyone happen to have wrist shot comparisons?

Can you swap the dial face on a Sugess Seaman ST2130?

I've got a Sugess Seaman (sub) with the ST2130 coming from Aliexpress over the next couple weeks. Has anyone successfully replaced the dial face with something that doesn't say "SEAMAN" on it? If so, what am I looking for?

Can you build a Sub Homage with the quality/value of a Sugess?

I'm brand new to this whole world. I'm certain that you can pay more for higher quality components and build something nicer than the Sugess Sub, but the Sugess seems to be pretty well regarded as one of the top bang-for-the-buck homages out there. Is it possible to build your own Mod with equally high quality parts for the same (or less) money?

Frame (2024) and Apple TV; my solution to reliably enter Art mode when Apple TV switched off. (Requires 'Node-Red' or similar)

I've got a 2024 Frame TV and an Apple TV 4K. I was frustrated with the original Tizen OS on the TV, but was disappointed to see that my Apple TV could only turn on of off the Frame, not enter Art mode. Here's my reliable solution, if you've got Node-Red (or similar) running.

  1. Activate SmartThings on your Frame
  2. In the SmartThings App, create 2 routines (manual, no triggers).
    1. First routine is to put the Frame into Art mode
    2. Second routine is to put the Frame into ATV input source
  3. Follow these instructions (https://developer.smartthings.com/docs/automations/scenes/) to generate a Smartthings API key and to get the SceneID of your 2 new scenes
  4. In Node-Red (or similar automation platform that can 'sense' when your ATV is on/off, and send a http request with Auth token), use the "http request" node, formatted with the auth token and SceneID you generated above, to trigger either Art Mode (when the ATV turns off) or ATV mode (when ATV turns on)
    1. I find the AppleTV integration with HomeAssistant to be clunky, so I instead used a smart plug with power meter. It seems to work great to sense that when power > 1.5 consider ATV ON, and when power < 1.8, consider ATV OFF. These set points trigger quickly, but avoid false positives.

I hope this helps someone who might be in a similar situation. I'm very happy with the solution.

Right combination of settings for Apple TV and Frame (2024) to play nice (Art Mode)?

Can anyone let me know what the right configuration is between the 2024 Frame and Apple TV 4K (2022) so that when I "power off" the Apple TV, the Frame goes into Art mode.

For what it's worth, I do have access to SmartThings routines, or (preferentially) HomeAssistant automations if there needs to be some other mojo behind the scenes.
