Fairprice Fam, we made it overseas!

Fairprice Fam, we made it overseas!

i saw a similar post about singaporeans finding fairprice house brand overseas, look what i found in Seoul’s lotte mart.

i didn’t manage to see the coveted fried chicken cashew nuts but the price certainly is definitely fair enough.

Breakfast at DearBorn

if you like artisanal granola, chances are you might have heard of Dearborn. i’m not a granola person but i am absolutely obsessed with their Smoked Cheddar and Chilli Sourdough and their butter.

they have 2 outlets, Everton Park and New Bahru. Everton Park’s menu is limited but i like it here as it is so chill. New Bahru can get pretty overwhelming with the crowd. i enjoyed their savoury oats too!

first 2 pictures from Everton and next 2 from New Bahru.

Omakase at Sushi to Sumi

Had the Take (S$120) omakase set which comprises of chawanmushi, 10 pieces of sushi and hand rolls, as well as some skewers. topped up some ala carte sushi and finished the meal with their warabimochi.

the fishes were super fresh, staff were friendly too and the warabimochi was to die for! plus points, saw some of their regulars who are Japanese, so they are definitely doing something right.

i don’t work in town but would definitely return for this!

Fish & Chips at Lad & Dad

Fish & chips with a side of coleslaw.
It was good but doesn’t quite hit the right spot for me. The battered fish was not it.

Any other recommendations for authentic fish and chips, especially one that will remind you of UK?

Japanese rice balls at Onigiri Gon

if you like onigiri, you absolutely have to visit Onigiri Gon. one of its kind in Singapore where you can see the chef making onigiri in front of you, and they have ranou! concept and ingredients are common in Japan but rare here.

Stir-fried Pork Blood Curd with Pickled Chili from Ba Shu

All the hype about pig blood products returning to SG, finally got to eat it again when i visited Ba Shu for dinner. this is apparently a classic Sichuan homestyle dish.

usually i like them in kway chap (Kimberly street kway chap, Penang) or in the traditional old hotpot from Chengdu. i can’t wait for our kway chap stalls to reintroduce them.

Scrap my car today!

can’t seem to find any detailed explanation for a first time car owner so i thought i’d share my experience here.

COE due on 31 May (Sunday) so technically 30 May is the last working day to scrap my car.

went to motorist website to get a quote for export/scrap. i received 2 bids on motorist with the highest being from Optimal Auto and arranged an appointment for viewing through motorist CS. at the same time, asked my friends if they have any contacts for the same purpose. a friend checked and explained my car, being a diesel one (116D) is not very popular ie exporters don’t really want a diesel car now.

on the day Optimal Auto was supposed to come and view my car, they called and said they wanted to collect exactly 1 week after the viewing, which i couldn’t as i still need to use my car, so we had to re-arrange. the viewing was changed to exactly 1 week before my preferred handover date. fellow was 50 minutes late for the viewing. when he came, he tried to find all sorts of problems my car may have, which is none. i really took care of it because i had the intention to renew the COE, however after seeking opinions from a few workshops, all recommended not to renew it.

then he briefed that he needs to book the ship for export, will send me the S&P etc and i told him my doubts about being able to export it. lo and behold, it was a no-show on the handover date and he didn’t even contact me. tsk tsk.

very grateful to my friend for his advice, i approached 2 LTA approved scrapyard for a quote as plan B, and Kiat Lee was able to accommodate me at the last minute. the entire process at Kiat Lee only took about 20 minutes, and they paynow immediately after our discussion.

tldr: ask around, get quotes from motorist, sgcarmart and call the LTA approved scrapyards to check as well.

Cold Buckwheat Noodles at Gwanghwamun Mijin

i did not know that Korea have their version of cold buckwheat noodles. My Korean friend invited us to try it out, along side Bossam (sliced pork) and Korean-style tonkatsu.

the portions are huge and left all of us stuffed to the brim. definitely worth another visit!
