solid gains while being inconsistent with protein/calories?

comparing progress pictures from a year ago and now. fairly consistent with getting in the gym, but not nearly as consistent with diet.

not eating like crap, but not eating enough calories/protein. i make an effort, but i know it’s not enough.

despite this, im still seeing huge gains (in my arms, in particular).

why is this? M25

4 months in the gym, still very little visual progress but getting stronger. wishful thinking in expecting more visual progress in this time?

i started benching with maybe 30 lbs and now im doing 60 lbs. same with all my other exercises - im moving more weight and am getting stronger.

still, im not seeing a lot of visual progress. i see a bit more definition in chest and legs, but nothing crazy. i think im filling out my dress shirts more? but could just be due to some slight shrinkage from dry cleaning/wash and dry.

am i being too eager in expecting more visual changes in 4 months? maybe closer to 6 months? or a year?

why do some guys look fantastic but i look skinny at the exact same height and weight?

it’s pmo. yes, im a beginner but why do i look so awful compared to guys with the exact same height and weight?

i also know we’re not supposed to compare but everyone does it, so its a moot point.

im 5’8” 165 lbs - not a lot of body fat. still pretty thin after 3 months.

how’s my “program?” been in the gym and feel like im not progressing as i should

full-body, 4 days a week:

- dumbbell bench press, just hit 55 lbs at 10 reps x 4 sets
- incline dumbbell bench press at 40 lbs at 10 reps x 4 sets
- bicep and hammer curls for 15 reps at 20-25 lbs. x 5 sets
- lunges with 35 lbs at 12 reps each leg
abductor/adductor machine at 120 lbs for 20-30 reps x 4 or 5 sets
- assisted chin-up/dip machine (i’ve been decreasing the support weight gradually) with 130 lbs of support, started out at 200 lbs. 15 reps x 5 sets.
- started doing leg extensions at 110 lbs for 10-12 reps . x 4 sets

not as consistent with diet - working on that. im seeing what looks like the beginnings of trap growth and vascularity in my forearms. but aside from that i feel i haven’t really progressed

what all am I doing wrong?

i’m new-ish to the gym (restarting 3 months ago). so, let’s consider me a complete noob. I’m 5’8” 165 lbs. i’m getting stronger over time and i see what looks like the beginning of some nice vascularity along with some trap growth but overall I feel like i’m not getting results reflective of 3 months. for example, i’m not gaining weight - any weight i gain ends up being water/waste weight.

here’s what I do in the gym:

full-body, 4 days a week:

dumbbell bench press, just hit 55 lbs at 10 reps.
incline dumbbell bench press at 40 lbs at 10 reps
bicep and hammer curls for 15 reps at 20-25 lbs.
lunges with 35 lbs at 12 reps each leg
abductor/adductor machine at 120 lbs for 20-30 reps
assisted chin-up/dip machine (i’ve been decreasing the support weight gradually) with 130 lbs of support, started out at 200 lbs.
started doing leg extensions at 110 lbs for 10-12 reps.

as i reflect on my habits, i realize my eating isn’t up to par. that’s an area I can improve on. but what about my “program?” is it any good?

and any tips on eating more protein and calories?

are “tech” polos too tacky to wear in the office?

are “tech” polos too tacky to wear in the office? i was looking up polo options and came across old threads in this sub saying so. is that still the consensus?

i’d give more context, but mods of this sub have esoteric rules and the “post” button grays out when I try to write more.

this morning i got assaulted and i texted what i thought was a friend (we’ve known each other for all four years of uni) for support and she gave a flippant response. she didn’t ask if i was okay.

it’s been hours since. i don’t expect her to come rushing to my apartment to give me a care package or anything, but she didn’t call or show any concern, really.

my boss even called to see if i was okay. but the person i’ve been spending so much time with over the past four years could barely muster any concern.

we were planning a trip together, but now i’m rethinking.

AIO? should i end this “friendship?”

edit: why? how? am i being downvoted???
