We need to target public (cities) as well as private Flock organizations to stop the scourge

The community is doing a MASSIVE job mapping Flock cameras and other ALPR's on OpenStreetMap, but information on WHO actually operates them is mostly missing.

We know major chains like Lowe's and Home Depot, as well as local HOAs, are heavily deploying these but on the map, private cameras look identical to municipal police units.

To support this in my screenshot you can see:
- Lowe's camera: Properly tagged as private/Lowe's.
- Roadway cameras: Mapped as Flock Safety ALPRs, but marked as "OPERATOR UNKNOWN" as there is no operator information.

For anyone trying to avoid businesses feeding into private surveillance networks, this missing metadata is the main bottleneck.

Questions for the community:

  1. OSINT & Verification: What are your best methods for tying a physical camera node to a specific business vs. city contract? (Public procurement logs, FOIA requests, physical stickers/markings, HOA meetings?). I have tried FOIA request but they seem to get slow rolled.
  2. OSM Standards: Should we focus purely on populating operator=* with the specific business name (e.g., Lowe's). How does a person updating this know? A camera in a Lowes parking lot is probably a safe guess but telling an HOA vs City Police is another story
  3. Workflows: What features or field-mapping tools can we build into apps to make filling in operator info quick while on the ground?

Looking for workflows, local success stories, or ideas on how to organize a community drive to get this filled in.

Bulk rust removal

Don’t be like me :-(. Check your storage sheds before it’s too late.

We recently had a leak in our outdoor storage shed that went completely unnoticed for God knows how long. As a result, a massive chunk of my steel stash has some pretty nasty rust damage. It is mostly mild steel angle, channel, and some 16 gauge plate.

I am looking for recommendations on how to remediate this without losing my mind. The absolute last thing I want to do is hit every single square inch of this metal with a wire wheel.

There is just too much of it, and I really hope someone here has a more scalable, efficient solution.

Are chemical dips worth the hassle for this volume, or should I look into building a makeshift molasses bath? Maybe some kind of spray-on converter? I would love to hear how you guys handle rust cleanup when you have a mountain of material to prep.

Thanks in advance.

Need to get some advice

I finally reached my breaking point with maintaining lots of little cylinders. My supplier gave me a killer deal on 300 size cylinders (C10, C25 and Argon).

This does make it a bit of a challenge with the individual machines as you no longer have the cylinder attached (Miller 255 MP, Primeweld TIG). To get around this I was thinking of installing retractable reels in the ceiling. These would be plumbed using copper lines to a metal "stock" building next to the shop where the cylinders would live. Each reel would have a Western quick disconnect on the end. I would also put strain relief on each welder. This then makes it a simple case of plugging the correct line (say C10) into the welder, hooking u strain relief and good to go.

I want to save where I can but also have something robust. I have a metal 3 side stock building that I was going o put up next to the shop. This would then have copper tubing running into the shop to the ceiling where I was going to have the retractable reels. For the reels I was going to use Vevor 50 foot reals with western quick release attachments.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of doing compression fittings for the copper pipe

I am using two 40 foot containers for workshop storage. I was really excited to get these single trip 40 foot high cube containers with the doors on the sides as it makes them so much more usable.

Flip-side is they are HEAVY. I have some of the Vevor 8 lug container wheels which work (but have some issues...)

Anyway will post some more pictures as the project continues!

I bought a Wican Pro odb reader and am interested in seeing if anyone has a working Realdash vehicle profile I can use.

Slightly longer version. I have tried using ODB to get the management data and its painfull. Seems like the "enterprise" way to do this is with the profiles

Many thanks!

Well that left a mark

Flat bed got chomped by a fork :-(

I am going to use this as an opportunity to hit everything with a wire brush and some concrete cleaner and then see what I can do to patch/ replace the board.

Has anyone had to do something like this before? Not sure I love the idea of pulling the entire board out (they are tongue and groove)

Hi!

I have a new to me Fuso Cantor FE180 flatbed. Its primarily being used as a farm truck and at the moment I am doing the new owner stuff. It was previously used by a construction company so has its fair share of minor road rash.

I replaced the turn signal assemblies in the front, new front tires and wheel alignment and all fluids changed. I also need to do a patch/ repair on the deck. So far it has been a pleasure to drive and have been very satisfied with its performance so far!
