Waterskins.

Hello! I've found myself wondering how the Norse carried water on their journeys. Naturally, we have evidence: various large containers, such as the tunni barrels. However, my question is about a smaller, more personal scale.

Is there surviving evidence of waterskins being used? That is, wood, plain leather or animal bladders. Cups and mugs were carried, be it of wood or metal, but those are more for drinking, rather than storage.

We have mentions of items that could be classified as waterskins. In the Grettis saga, one is stated to be carried by a hero. I'll be directly copying the text that can be found on Project Forlǫg:

“That morning, Þorgeirr got ready to row out to sea, and two men with him, one called Hámundr, the other Brandr. Þorgeirr went first, and had on his back a leather bottle [leðrflaska] and drink therein. It was very dark, and as he walked down from the boat-stand Þorfinn ran at him, and smote him with an axe betwixt the shoulders, and the axe sank in, and the bottle squeaked, but he let go the axe, for he deemed that there would be little need of binding up, and would save himself as swiftly as might be. […] Now it is to be said of Þorgeirr, that he turned from the blow as the axe smote the bottle, nor had he any wound. […] Thereat folk made much mocking, and called Þorgeirr Bottleback, and that was his by-name ever after.“

Are there more sources for the existence of such bottles?

Asking for a small lesson.

Hey folks! I'm dipping my feet into making banners.

Could someone teach me how to make a pattern like this?

Historic Norse Shields

Hey folks! Title is made specifically keywords to hopefully skew Google results.
I've noticed that looking up that term gets you, almost exclusively, LARP, overly complex designs or simply poor replicas.

This is a tiny reference image for a handful of shield patterns. Please do correct me if any of them I have drawn wrong.

Hello! I have a question about clothing.

I'm getting into reenactment, and I've accumulated a proper set of clothing. I've had it for almost a year now, but I'm having doubts about colours.

My tunic is an accurate cut and size, its honey-yellow.
I have grey wool pants, and burgundy puttees.
I also intend on buying a Skjoldehamn style hood, which will come in black.

I'm starting to feel, bland? I don't want to fall into the hole of all beige, so I've been considering getting my tunic dyed a nice green.

Thoughts?

Small edit: I'd like to thank everyone who responded to this post. It's been great reading advice and having feedback from the people active here.
Additionally, I've commissioned the hood in a green colour.

Hey folks! Question about War Sails.

I’m still a new player at Mount & Blade. My friend has the PS+ catalogue so I gave Warband a shot and liked it, I’ll be sure to play it on PC!

I’m interested in buying War Sails. From what I’ve seen it looks quite fun, but also apparently has some major issues like messing with the map quite a bit.

Worth a shot?

Peculiar glitch?

I've been having visual glitches lately. The thing is, only on the world map. Sometimes there are flickering orange or blue triangles, lighting goes checkerboard, and now this happened.
What do I do to fix this?

EDIT: FIXED.

I changed some settings and it stopped. Here's what I did.

Disabled TSAO occulsion method.
Turned off Bloom.

EDIT 2:

It's a mod issue.

I use Illumina to make the world map a bit more lively. Every party gets it's own light. When an army gathers, they just stack. Game engine got overloaded.

Follow up post: What smells do you hate?

Hey people! I noticed the post asking about favorite strange smells got quite a bit of responses, so I decided to do another one. What smells do you dislike, hate or outright despise? I’m a big hater of perfume and flowers.

What weird smell do you guys like?

Small community post, is there any weird or bad smell you enjoy? It can be literally anything. What I mean is those pleasant-yet-unpleasant smells, like gasoline. Not a survey or anything, genuinely just curious!

Befriended the neighbours girls!

Hey folks! Recently I was able to become dearest friends with the neighbours goats. He’s alright with it so I come by them grazing pretty much every day. The youngins are still careful around me but mama is absolutely in love! She sees me walking by the fence and starts yelling at me to come by.

I wholeheartedly wish aspergers, and ASD, was cured.
I don’t care how hot of a take this is; I just want it to end.

Being born a pole I was not given any support untill the ripe age of 13 when I started going to a charlatan psychologist who did absolutely nothing for me except draining the wallet of my parents and ruining any trust of psychologist, psychatrists and other “head doctors” of any kind.

I got treated like a freak as a kid by my classmates as you would expect. I only found solace in the teachers who, I believed, were actually people instead of the vile barbarism children had. I could actually talk to someone who respected me and listened to what I had to say. I was able to speak with someone who had a grain of understanding to what we were discussing.

At one point I started to simply respond to bullying with violence. In 7th grade I found myself beating one of my bullies down on the ground untill I was pulled off by a teacher. I don’t wanna say this to just look edgy and cool, I just didn’t know any other way to respond.

Still being a dumb kid (16) I have no respect for myself. My sheer incompetence at anything I attempt to do is starting to impress me and urges me more and more into cutting myself. I have found myself stepping to it a few times, as young as 11 I believe. I was never taught to deal with emotions, in days of extreme anger I find myself slicing at my arms just to not hurt anything or anyone but myself.

I genuinely cannot do anything right. I will always make a mistake, I will always mess up, I will always cause problems.
Anything requiring any finer hand coordination is a test of willpower for me. I feel like my hands are always controlled by something inside of me instead of by me. I will always drop something, I will always accidentally push something and shatter it, I will always be unable to put coins into my wallet under 30 seconds.

My fingers feel bloated. It feels like they push away anything they get near. They cannot create, they have only been able to destroy.

I feel like a husk. I will always be nothing more than a cripple.
