Today my mom texts me to say that she’s “not sure” about Yom Kippur because it is the day of atonement but nobody has ever atoned to her on this day. Every year she waits to see if someone will apologize to her but it never happens. I think it’s relevant to say that we are not Jewish.

I can’t imagine anything more self centered than learning about another religion and thinking how it can benefit you.

Every time my mom comes over my apartment she criticizes my decorating somehow. Today, she and a friend stopped by my apartment on their way to an event in the city. I just got back from a trip with my husband where we bought this cute little canvas painting from a street artist vendor. She saw it hanging on our wall and made the comment to her friend that “when she dies I will get real art from her”. I admit that my little painting may not be fine art, but it’s cute and reminds me of a happy memory and makes me happy when I look at it. I just get so mad every time she makes comments like this. Other times she has commented on things like vases, throw pillows, etc. AIO? Should I just let it go and chalk it up to a difference of opinion?
