Happy Films/Series

1 week into maternity leave and I’m already struggling with the waiting game. Also don’t think I’m helping myself as I’ve started rewatching Grey’s Anatomy, which is kind of my happy place, but also it’s pretty damn depressing 🙈 So, I need inspo please for happy/funny films and series. Thinking Schitt’s Creek and Task Master but looking for others… TIA

Breathing Properly Again

Mums… I need to know! How soon after birth could you breathe normally through your nose again? I have struggled for it feels like my entire pregnancy with the feeling of a blocked nose, and I am so over it now! 😭

39 weeks and hormones

I’m finally on mat leave, trying to focus on all the oxytocin activities and all my happy things are just making me cry. Wtf is with these hormones?!? Anyone else?!?

I MISS MY FULL BLADDER CAPACITY

That is all really. I’m so sick of peeing every hour and it being an absolute trickle.

Washing/Sterilising/Storage System

FTM and trying to get my head around things so please talk to me as if I know nothing. What do you find the easiest method for washing, sterilising and then storage. I’m hoping to breastfeed and eventually express so will have pump kit and a few bottles. We have the Milton cold water steriliser to start us off, but will happily upgrade this if it saves us time/effort. Do I need a separate plastic tub to keep sterilised stuff in?

Hospital Bag Baby Quantities

Packing baby items for my hospital bag and I’m at a loss for how many of each thing I’ll need. Obviously I know my husband can go and get extras, but what’s kind of the minimum? And sizes too! This is what I currently have…

- short sleeve baby grows newborn size x5
- sleep suits newborn size x3
- short sleeve baby grows 0-1 month size x5
- sleep suits 0-1 month size x3
- nappies size 1 x10
- going home outfit (baby grow, leggings, cardigan, hat) size 0-1 month x1

I also have muslins, blanket, wipes, nappy sacks, nail care kit.

Managing Tiredness/Low Mood

I’m looking for ways how you manage tiredness/low mood/irritability, I guess in particular with your partner and communicating with them. Do you have a code word? Do you take yourself away from the situation? How do you manage to not snap at each other and say things you regret?

Am I being a psychopath? 🙃

Husband has just informed me that he has organised a work night out next week when I will be 38 weeks (and 2 days). He says he will ‘only have a few beers’. My obvious worry is at this stage we don’t know what could happen and I am relying on him to get me to hospital and be sober for the birth of our child. Am I overreacting getting upset about this or would you feel the same at this stage?

Haemorrhoids

Awaiting a GP appointment but I think I have a thrombosed haemorrhoid. I am in agony, couldn’t sleep at all last night, sitting is painful, lying down is painful, standing is painful, it just constantly hurts and I’m now spiralling thinking how on earth am I going to manage labour. And even if I manage labour surely this unwanted friend is going to reappear and my first days/weeks with baby are going to be ruined. I’ve done a hypnobirthing course and I’m so set on a water birth, but I’m now thinking do I need to go c-section, even though that’s not what I want. Appreciate maybe I’m being dramatic here, I know labour is going to be painful, and there’s the potential for tears/complications/pain but I can’t get over how painful this is and not knowing when it will end. Not even sure what I’m asking here either, just can’t stop crying and felt the need to offload 😭

Haemorrhoids

I know this probably isn’t the case, but I’m 36 weeks and in agony with haemorrhoids/piles, and now stressing I’m not going to cope with labour pain. Please can someone who’s on the other side tell me haemorrhoids are somehow worse!? 😬

Labour Fuel

I might be treating labour a little bit too much like an ultra, but what fuel for labour did you enjoy? I’ve got packets of different sweets, some tailwind, Lucozade sport, flapjacks, dried mango, bananas, squares bars and Voom bars so far! 😅

Colostrum/Nipples

Absolutely no idea if this is normal… just starting my colostrum collecting journey, not expecting to get much until I’ve practised for a few days but I’m noticing it’s coming out of a few places on my nipple, not enough to collect in a syringe, but definitely glistening/moisture in like 3 different places on each nipple. Is this normal or do I have weirdly holey nips?! I had expected it to only come out of one place! 🙈

Garmin/Fitness Tracker Trends

I am an absolute Garmin data nerd, love all the stats I get from my watch. To the point that I knew I was pregnant before I tested positive from the change in some of my stats. So, I’m intrigued as I get closer to my due date if others noticed any changes the closer they got to indicate they would be going into labour soon? Appreciate watching the data and obsessing won’t help me be calm but I’m intrigued.

Looking at sleeping options for downstairs and torn between getting a traditional style Moses basket with a rocking stand or the SnuzBaskit. Any recommendations/thoughts?

Not sure if I’m worrying about something ridiculous but did anyone prepare for their waters breaking during a workout? I’m managing to keep using my peloton tread and bike and I’m worried about breaking them/water damage if my waters break during use. Should I be wearing a pad while working out?
