What if Michael was killed before the Baptism?
Let's say the heads of the other families and Moe Greene got wind of Michael's plans to have them whacked on the day of his nephew's baptism and they were able to kill Michael first.
What would have happened then? The Corleone family wouldn't have a boss (at least temporally). That only leaves Tom, Clemenza and Tessio in charge.
Would Tom take the reigns as boss? Or Clemenza as he wanted to start his own family anyway.
Would be possible that Tessio would force his way in? It is noted that he planned a peace meeting under the guise of eliminating Michael so he can take over the family.
