What jobs do people recommend for someone with a college degree but no work experience. Everything requires references, and I have none.

I have a big trip planned at the end of summer, where I will be out of the USA for around a year.
The resources I have found say that I can only renew my passport if it has less than a year of validity remaining. This means I won’t be able to get a new one before my trip.
However, many countries require six months of validity to enter. So I would need to have a new passport before I leave.

Is there any way to get a new passport when you still have more than a year left on your current one?

I have not really had a job for three years. I am currently considering law school as my next step in life. I have little formal work experience except four years in the army and some part time work while in school, but I do have a great academic record.

A bit more details: I joined the army at 18, then at 22 I went to community college. I served as the college's student government president. I continued on with a scholarship to a well ranked public university where I graduated summa cum laude at 26. After graduating I still had a good bit of money saved from the army and went traveling. My degree was in philosophy and I intended to go to law school after a single gap year, but ended up loving the budget backpacker lifestyle so much that I never came back to America. My gap year grew into being nearly three years. I have traveled incredibly cheap: sticking to lower cost-of-living countries and often volunteering at hostels or other places in exchange for a bed. I have been studying for the LSAT, and on practice tests I have gotten high 160s. I think if I stick in one place for more than a month and develop a routine to help my studying I can push above 170.

Is it realistic for me to get into a decent law school? What should I be doing to maximize my chances?
