Is The Yellowstone Club worth it?

I got hired to be a food runner at The Yellowstone Club for the summer at a restaurant called Eglise. I had never heard of YC before my interview, but I’ve learned it is basically a private ski resort for super rich and elite people. The cheapest housing is $830/month for a private room with a shared bathroom, but is a 1 hour drive from the job (they provide shuttles). There is housing that is 15 minutes from the job but it costs $1300+/month for a private room and private bathroom. There is also housing 25 minutes away that is $830-$1260 for a private bedroom and shared bathroom. They also require a $400 deposit, and all utilities are included. Although a shared room is cheaper ($550-$670/month), I snore so I’d prefer not to have a shared room as to not inconvenience my roommate. I’m having doubts because the housing is a bit more expensive than I’d prefer and I’m worried that the job just wouldn’t be worth it. I was told there was a 22% service charge on all purchases that goes to staff, but what if tips just aren’t very good? Especially in the summer since this is a ski resort and I assume it’s much busier in the winter. What if the customers are just rude and demeaning assholes and I end up hating it? What if I’m not able to save like I hoped while doing seasonal work? This is my first seasonal job so any advice or suggestions on whether this is a good fit would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I am looking for a seasonal agricultural job opportunity. I would be grateful if someone could help me.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, majoring in Food Science. I hope to find a seasonal work opportunity on a farm. especially cattle and sheep farms, as I have a great passion for them.

Tips Seem Low

I’m happy to get any tips as they are not required. However, I’ve heard mixed things from others. I’m a driver guide for HAP in the Alaska interior and I’m averaging $64 per day. Is that low? I’ve seen videos where people say they usually make over $100-200 in a day.

First gig worries

Hey all, not sure if this is the right place to talk about this but I’d like some input. I start my first seasonal job on Friday (photographer/wrangler at a dude ranch), however as it draws closers I’m having some serious worries due to a couple of factors:

- I am a stealth trans man (on HRT/post-op), and I know the equine industry can be pretty rough for queer folk from experience. A lot of my coworkers will be on the conservative side (as gleaned from past employee reviews), and I’m worried I might be getting into a dangerous situation here due to the bunkhouse-style housing (boss had no issues with it, but not sure about who I’ll be directly working with). Initially I was pretty confident I could maintain my privacy but I am having some second thoughts especially now that it’s becoming much more real. The town itself and the guests are pretty LGBTQ friendly, but not so much the majority of the ranch staff.

- Outside of general (yet pretty severe) moving anxiety, I recently graduated college and am worried I am “wasting“ what could’ve been my last summer in my college town. I didn’t have a particularly great time, especially this last semester, but it was familiar. I left two stable jobs, my friends, family, and ESA (which is a whole factor in itself) to work for a couple months, and I will be giving up a lot of my free time (that I worry I will never have again). I will also be moving in with my best friend of nearly a decade to a town pretty close to where this job is during the fall anyway, this gig just moved my timeline up in a way I wasn’t especially prepared for.

My current plan is to just give it a try (because I know I’d kick myself forever if I didn’t!), but I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to navigate this, or if there were any other queer wranglers out there who‘d be willing to share their experience? Job wise I have very little worries lol, I love working with horses and combining that with photography is a dream. I’m prepared for the hard labor and long hours, it’s just the outside factors that are starting to weigh on me.

For resort work, what would you rate specific jobs like housekeeping, server, bartender, front desk, etc out of 10?

I apply to most places as a bartender but I’ve always wondered about other positions like housekeeping because dealing with drunk customers all day can be draining.

Crater Lake experience so far

Anyone currently working at crater lake, how is it there so far and is it worth going? I’m hearing a lot of mixed reviews about working there and would like some inside opinions before I make my decision.

Mount Rainer

I was wondering if anyone was working up at Rianier Guest Services? I have an interview with them on Friday, so I'd love to find more information on them before committing.

Please if you can go look at my fund raiser, and donate if possible

I traveled from Chicago to Alaska for a seasonal job, eager for a new chapter. While getting settled, I met a woman named Kristi who owns a lodge she inherited from her parents. She told me she was 65, sick, and frail. Feeling for her situation, I agreed to help her for free before my actual job began. I arrived three weeks early, only to find her in the process of kicking three people off her island—unaware at the time that she was doing so just to give me their living space.

I began working immediately, putting in seven 15-hour days. Then, without warning, she told me she had rented out my cabin and I had one day to pack and leave. I informed her that she was legally required to give 10 days' notice, but offered to compromise and leave in four days when the new guests arrived. This would have given me time to book accommodations and arrange transport. Instead of responding, she walked away.

The next morning, May 4, at 10:15 AM, she knocked on my door with a police officer she introduced as her "friend." The officer was verbally abusive and threatening, using his position to intimidate me into leaving immediately. Forced into a desperate situation, I packed my things and stood on a cold beach in the rain for three hours waiting for a water taxi. The driver who eventually picked me up told me she does this to people all the time.

That was the breaking point. Once I reached the mainland, I contacted an attorney. We are filing suit against the woman for breach of contract, the officer for tortious interference and acting in bad faith under the color of law, and the City of Homer for failing to train and monitor their staff. While the lawyers believe I have a very viable case, the retainer is between $7,000 and $12,000.

I have already spent nearly $4,000 on last-minute hotels, a bus to Anchorage, and emergency travel—money I didn't have to lose. To make matters worse, she called the lodge where I was originally supposed to work and had me fired simply because I am pursuing legal action.

I am starting this GoFundMe—the first I’ve ever done—because I cannot fight this alone. This woman is exploiting seasonal workers for free labor and then discarding them to keep her business afloat. Seasonal workers are the backbone of Homer’s economy; without us, these lodges and restaurants couldn't survive. Yet, I’ve been met with "locals first" hostility and told to "just go home."

I came here to help an elderly woman get on her feet. Instead, she has financially devastated me and left me stranded in a hotel room, unsure of how I will afford food for the next few days while she profits from the cabin I was staying in.

I am asking for accountability. I am asking for the police to stop acting as personal bodyguards for their friends. If you can donate even one dollar, it will go toward the legal fees needed to hold these parties responsible. Please don’t let me go through this alone.

Go fund me name is : Hold Homer Cops & Corporations Accountable

What's been your weirdest roomate set up in seasonal work?

This year as someone in my 30's I got a roomate who I'm guessing is probably in his 60's. A little weird given the generation gap but at least he seems kinda chill so far.

Urgently trying to find residential summer work

I know it's very late in the hiring season, but my original summer plans unexpectedly fell through today.

I am a college student urgently looking for any residential work this summer, as I am unable to stay at home for personal reasons.

I’m open to many kinds of work, especially in hotels, resorts, hospitality, campus housing/conference work, and seasonal jobs. I have experience in retail, farm work, and large-scale event organization.

I’m available any time this summer and looking for work that includes housing, room and board, or live-in accommodations. I’m interested in places still hiring now or later in the summer. Any leads, websites, suggestions, or even search terms would be very helpful.

Thank you so much for your time. Feel free to comment or DM!

Does anyone feel bad leaving for seasonal work?

I am a college student that felt bad about leaving for seasonal work. Even though I had no regrets, I still feel bad about leaving for 3 months. Anyone else had any experience like this? How did you stop it?

I want to have my life, but I don’t want to feel dragged down.

Is there anywhere seasonal hiring that is desperate?

I have applied to half of the world's seasonal job opportunities and none have gotten back except yellowstone but I quit halfway through my commitment last year, so they won't take me back which is fine. I really don't have much experience work wise. So my question is, is there anywhere that considers most people? Anywhere in the US. Any sort of work will do. I'm not picky. l just need a change and want to get on a plane and go somewhere. 😆

Tour Jobs in different destinations

If you’re looking for seasonal tourism work, this page might help:

https://tourjobboard.com/

It collects jobs like tour guide, boat host, skipper, walking tour guide, and other tourism roles. Some listings also ask for specific languages, so it’s worth checking if you speak more than one.
