Tips for seasonal work job interview over Zoom?

Hi everyone!

I have a job interview lined up for retail at a ski resort in Aspen, CO. I'm super excited, but the only job interviews I've ever done have been for low stakes, in person retail jobs in my hometown. Do you guys have any specific tips for interviewing for a seasonal job? or any tips for interviewing over a zoom meeting? Thanks so much!

FOH seasonal is it dead everywhere? Or is it just me?

Working on block island this summer for the first time. All of my coworkers saying they made crazy money last year but this year has been extremely slow. Most saying they made in the 40-45k range but year to date I haven't even made 5k yet and we're almost halfway through the season. To make 45k this season I would need to make almost 4k a week every week for the next 12 straight weeks and with the slowdown that happens in late august after school starts up there's just no way that's gonna be a reality.

Wondering if any other seasonal bartenders and servers are experiencing the same thing.

Got email for interview request for Sun Valley but something seems very, very off plus I don't like the reviews I am seeing on here about the place

So my significant other and I applied. We both got identical emails asking for us to interview that are extremely clearly written by AI yet sent from the "front desk manager's" email. Has her office number and Sun Valley's address and website and everything at the bottom of the email but the whole thing is very confusing....

The first email that was sent says they would like me to come to the property so they can "learn more about me" but I am lost as to why it wouldn't be a phone interview. It asks me to send some dates and times I am available. I responded and clarified that I would need to do a phone interview and said that my availability was completely open at the moment and I can interview whenever. The response I got was literally, "Thank you for those times. Does 3:30MST on Sunday work?" but as I mentioned I never listed any times.

If anybody has worked there can advise on whether they interview in person or on the phone I would appreciate it. I highly dislike using AI to write your emails and think it seems unprofessional and lazy and that alone already makes me not want to even consider them.

Whats the longest you've spent in one location?

Personally I'm on season 2 here in Alaska. Due to my position there aren't many seasonal jobs for my field. Im 50/50 on coming back here. Some things I'm tired about here but it's a decent place to make money and travel on the weekends...

the only thing is if I quit it for next year I have a feeling that may lead me looking for a more stable type job for better or worse and who knows how long that could take to find.

Any of you ever get in a similar predicament? Whats the longest you've stuck to one location?

Harmels on the Taylor

Has anyone worked for the Harmel on the Taylor in Colorado? I just applied to fill in mid season due to them losing some people. I’ve never worked in Colorado and wanted to see if any had some experiences they could share.

The resort itself looks very nice and has activities that I would be interested in and the landscape is all beautiful and breath taking.

lonely shout into the void

not looking for advice or whatever, just looking to be sad and complain. I have tried to make friends but I don’t enjoy forcing shit so I gave up in that department. I’ve never struggled like this to make friends. I’m neurodivergent so it makes social shit harder. I’m not good at this. I drink or get high to deal with it. I am very alone and have no one to spend time with

Ski Resorts for this Winter - PNW vs Tahoe area vs Colorado? Bartending experiences

Currently trying to plan my upcoming winter and for the past few winters I’ve made decent money had a good work life balance in Utah but this year I’m looking to switch it up a bit and am torn between a few options and want to hear from yall about your experiences. I know how each areas skiing itself is but don’t know which area has the potential to make the most money. I’m looking at various resorts in Washington but mainly Crystal mountain, palisades in California or working at hotels/casinos in the area, or headed out to various resorts in Colorado. Any advice is awesome.

Grand Canyon/ Xanterra

Hey i just got hired for a laundry worker at the grand canyon hotel, im very excited but Xanterra has horrible reviews on here, im about to book my flight but having second thoughts due to the reviews and SA reports and experiences lots of people are having, i start teaching and living in cambodia in november and i thought this would be a great opportunity for me to explore arizona and the canyon and make some money to save for cambodia. any thoughts?? Maybe i should au pair in spain instead until november??

Snowbird jobs

Recommendations for somewhere warm to work this winter, starting October/November until like, May. I don't really care about pay, as long as I'm able to put something away, even if it's small. I am not opposed to hard work, I just hate snow. Would actually prefer blue collar/dirty work to serving but I'm open to most things. I'm trying to get close to the ocean, and boat experience would be really great, maybe like a dockhand or something (tips!) New to this whole thing and haven't found a whole lot on coolworks for winter jobs that aren't ski resorts.

Didn’t interview but got offered job at breckenridge for winter. Have questions

I’m currently working for Vail in the Tetons, i like it a lot here but i wanna go to breck for the winter. Wanna learn how to snowboard i have zero experience but i got offered the job anyways. I was trying to go backpacking in SE asia for a month at least after i leave this job, It doesn’t tell me anything about a start date. Are they lenient at all with start dates and is it not smart to go later since i’ve heard the housing is limited? Probably have more questions but this is all i can think of for now

Bullied at seasonal workplace

Hi everyone!
I’m working at a lodge in Alaska as a breakfast chef. That involves work at 4 am usually until 2pm. The room I’m staying at is above the kitchen and the ventilation hood is extremely loud to the point where it shakes my room. Then also other kitchen crew members love their music loud. I know I can do nothing about the hood activity (and I’m not intending to) but I’ve been kindly asking them to lower the music volume between like 3 pm and 6 pm when I’m getting some sleep. (Just so it doesn’t get through my earplugs) I have to do that because I’m kept up by the noise until around 10:30pm- it’s dinner service so I can’t get to sleep early enough to get adequate rest before I have to get up again around 3:40 am. Additionally, perhaps worth noting, I have autism and too much noise gives me physical symptoms like cramps, bowel dysregulation and throwing up, not to mention nervous system havoc.
Now, it’s my 3rd week here, and in the beginning coworkers seemed to appreciate my company, smiling, saying hi, socialising with me etc. Music was compromised on, and it was alright to me. But then I started getting a vibe that I’m being talked about behind my back (told myself to quit being paranoid) and then people started ignoring me when I say hi, turning away when I speak to them etc. Today is my day off and apparently I should be fine with extra loud music since yesterday (didn’t get rest after my shift) just because it’s my day off today, even though I still got woken up at 5 am with my room shaking from the goddamn hood. I understand I can’t do anything about the hood because it’s needed when cooking is happening. I went downstairs at 6ish just to ask what time do they expect the hood to be off- so I can go somewhere else and spend time in a quiet place (I do have places on the property I can go to, like a staff kitchen in another building, a beach when it’s not raining etc). I made sure to ask nicely and made sure they know I am NOT asking to turn it off, but rather just asking for information. They said 8 or 9 am, so I put a jacket on, took my mug for some tea and a book and went to chill in the other kitchen. There I just napped in the chair and enjoyed the peace and quiet. I also texted the property caretaker to say that I REALLY need to stay somewhere else because otherwise I won’t be able to continue working here. (Worth noting that I am their THIRD breakfast chef THIS SEASON!!) I knew the owner is really stressed out (we’re hosting a biggish, fussy group right now) and he can be a bit hard to communicate with. Owner also told me earlier (in my first week) that there isn’t a place for me to move to. Then when it was past 8, I went to my room to change out of PJs and go downstairs to make myself a cup of coffee. I noticed music coming from downstairs was really excessively loud. I said to myself again, great they are enjoying themselves and I don’t need to be paranoid, but when I went downstairs, everyone apart from one dishwasher/ waitress and the girl that usually works part time mornings with me (and she’s very mellow) just LEFT the room. Then owner’s wife waltzed in and yelled at me! I mean literally yelled at me. She (very angrily) conveyed the following message: hood needs to be on when cooking and I should try another room next to mine if I have a problem with that. I remarked that she seems angry, and tried to clarify that I only asked a question about when the hoods gonna be on and off, but she didn’t let me finish even 3 words of my sentence, instead yelling what she said earlier, once again. I once again remarked (calmly, making eye contact etc) that she seems angry, and she replied (10% less mad maybe) that her husband had to get up at 3 to make breakfast and then take guests on fishing trip, so yeah it is a shitty day. Then she stormed off. After she was out, the dishwasher turned towards me and both our jaws were on the ground for like a minute. After we were done being flabbergasted, she said to me that both the owner and the dinner chef who were covering for me on day off, had an angry fit in the morning and bitched about me- specifically about what, I don’t know- for taking a day off as scheduled? Why wasnt I asked to change my day off- I would’ve heard them out and just worked the day and took another day off instead! Then dinner chef and another waitress were again not responding when spoken to and totally rude. When I went upstairs, music was BLASTING for another few hours. So much for my day off, my hands are shaking and my brain is mush.
Thank God there are some kind, safe people here (the waitress/ dishwasher, two girls at reception, the caretaker) because I would lose my last marble. I went to chat with reception and they heard me out and understood me. Dishwasher and I shared some remarks too. Caretaker said we will find a solution= find a place where I can stay where I can get some rest. So I have hope.
Thanks for reading this, it’s my first time venting on Reddit, I’m open to hear your guys’s experiences and whatever else you have to say about this situation! :)

First timer, winter ski season questions

I’m (24F) have been looking into getting a job at a ski resort this upcoming winter. I’m using coolworks but most places say are still hiring for summer, should i wait a bit more or keep sending resumes?? I already sent one to Steamboat for the night audit position, but got rejected im wondering if its bc of that.
I have experience in security, housekeeping, front desk and customer service. And am looking for somewhere that will offer housing (thats not like crazy expensive). What other places should i be looking at?? I have my eye on Big Sky, Mammoth Mountain and Grand Targhee. Also Aramark at Yosemite but I’ve heard is really bad so thats like my last measure lol. I appreciate any input and info <3

I'm not sure I like this seasonal position and I'm already looking at other permanent jobs

I'm nearly three weeks into this seasonal temporary job at a retail discount store and maybe it's because of my 10 years of on and off retail and customer service experience, but I'm not sure if I like this job. Because I've been mostly on the cash register so far which I remembered I disliked because it can be stressful and I don't like standing around in one place doing nothing. I much prefer being on the floor, stocking shelves, bringing out merchandise, etc though sometimes I have been given other tasks that don't involve the register. I had asked the manager I did the orientation if I could ever do any floor work, but she said something like "we'll see but that's not the reason we seasonal employees for" So far based on how things are going I'm not sure I'll stay permanently if they offer me the position after the 90 day trial.

I have already started looking at other permanent jobs, ones that don't involve cashiering. This has just been a reminder of why I always wanted to get out of retail and try a different field out. Can anybody relate?

When to apply for H-2b visa?

I am a UK citizen who is really keen to do some seasonal work in the states, hopefully next summer. Just wondering how long/arduous the process is, and when to start applications? Also, would love to hear recommendations of employers who sponsor H-2B visas. Thank you!

Winter work ideas for someone in their 30s?

Hey guys! Ive done a fair bit of seasonal work that lead to some settling down for a couple years in a resort town. I’m thinking of starting fresh again this winter, and have 15 years of bartending and serving experience. Only thing js I’m in my 30s now, so I’m looking for places that aren’t just 18-22 year olds? And obviously looking for good money as a server / bartender. I’m open to large resorts or smaller mom and pop places, or even just a town idea. Can post it here or Dm me if you don’t want to blow up your spot haha! Thank you.

Looking for work for winter server/bartender roles - has anyone had good experience at east or west coast ski resorts?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in GNP working FOH (Xanterra) and have fallen in love with it out here. My friends & I are trying to figure out where to go to next, and I’m hoping for some advice/guidance. We seem to be pretty set on being at or near a ski resort for the winter. East or west coast, we are open to both. This gives us a wide range of options, but also makes research a little more difficult! Has anyone spent a winter in Colorado/MT/Vermont/etc. and has any recommendations for winter seasonal work? Specifically looking for bartending and serving roles! Anywhere to avoid? TYIA!
