Why do you want to speak French?

You live near the greatest superpowers in the world - England and USA - cultural and economic marvels of unparalleled historical and contemporary impact. The English-speaking world commands extraordinary economic privilege, accounting for 50+ trillion in GDP, and pulled most of the western hemisphere out of poverty.

But you want to speak French, in deference to a country a continent away. France and French speaking countries account for maybe 3 trillion GDP. It isn’t clear France has ever thought about Canada at all.

All that said, why are Canadians so regarded? thanks in advance

Memory of a card trick

I used to do a card trick as a kid. Did I make this up or learn it? What is this?

Lay 16 cards face down side by side to make a square 4 x 4.

Pick one card at random and show it to your audience. Don’t look at the card. Make a show of them remembering it. the trick begins now.

Place the card back face down without looking. Pick the cards back up while saying you’re going to carefully shuffle them and make such small talk. While picking up the cards you must Remember the position of the shown card. As you shuffle you must keep the card apparent to you . Somehow. I don’t remember this part.

Then you lay the cards back down.

You are aware of which one was shown. You choose it again. “Is this your card?”

How did I do this and did I make it up? the trick takes longer than it takes to read this. I remember talking quite a bit through it
