The Tutorial Hurdle

Hey all, I’m building a game inside of Reddit and am having difficulties balancing the length of my tutorial.

My game will simply appear in the Reddit feed along with other posts, so if I have a super long in-depth tutorial, people will just give up on my game and continue scrolling because of the large barrier to entry.

However, if my tutorial is too short, then people will get frustrated for not understanding the mechanics and also leave.

I’m pretty new to gamedev so I would like to know if any of you could recommend any tips or tricks for keeping new users engaged during a tutorial, while also keeping it short and sweet. You can check out my game at r/PunchAPath and you can tell that all I have is a simple popup with some text right now, and it can definitely be improved… Thanks!

r/PunchAPath 🧩 A new daily puzzle game community!

Hey all! I just wanted to share a subreddit I recently started for a daily puzzle game I made. You can play the levels directly inside of Reddit over at r/PunchAPath, no downloads or nothin 😎

The game is still very early in development, but I’m actively adding features based on player feedback, so joining while we’re just getting started means you could really make an impact!

You’re welcome to lurk and just play the daily puzzles, or you can create and submit your own levels too. I post a new level myself every morning, but I’d love to see some more player-made puzzles in the future.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll check it out!

Preparing for liftoff 🚀

Hey guys and gals, I just wanted to share another milestone that we recently passed, all made possible thanks to our new members!

I especially wanted to thank u/Mamuschkaa, u/Praetrorian, and u/Flaky-Part9572 for adding creative and out-of-the-box levels to the community, as well as suggesting tips on where the game could improve. It truly makes me happy knowing there are people out there who enjoy the game as much as I do ❤️

Once again, big thanks and big things coming soon!!! Our biggest update yet will hopefully be dropping sometime at the end of next week so get ready 👀

My New Posts Don't Appear in any Subs OR on my Profile

I have just tried making posts on my profile, on a sub I moderate, on a test sub I moderate, and on r/WhatIsMyCQS, and none of the posts I have made appear on the subs themselves or on my profile.

I am pretty sure the posts themselves are still out there, but nobody can access them anywhere. Like for the WhatIsMyCQS post I just made, you can't find it if you go into the sub and set the filtering to new, but you can access it via a direct link which I have because the automod responded to me:

https://www.reddit.com/r/WhatIsMyCQS/comments/1v8vkeb/comment/p08rr7l/?screen_view_count=2&ext-referrer=SEO

I tested on mobile, desktop, logged in, logged out, and on old reddit and I can't see my posts anywhere. I don't know if I did something to set off an automod or spam detector, but I would love some help because I can't even post in my own sub that I moderate right now. I don't even know if this post will even go through.

Reddit keeps auto-correcting the name of my sub 🫠

If you search up my sub r/PunchAPath, it shows up fine on the Posts tab, but if you switch to any of the other tabs like the Communities tab, it will autocorrect the name of my sub so you can’t find it anymore.

I doubt it makes a big difference for discoverability, but it’s just a little disappointing as I want to take every opportunity I can get to make my community grow. Does anyone know if the reddit algorithm will start to recognize my sub’s name and stop autocorrecting it if my sub grows larger, or is it worth it to slightly rename my sub while it’s still small?
