Watch your package sizes

I requested a downsize for a package, and after it was completed the package size remained the same. I figured maybe they were not able to do it. Then I received the package and it had indeed been downsized, but I was charged shipping for the larger size.

To buyee's credit, once I showed them the size of the actual package, they quickly refunded me the shipping difference.

Looking for an e-bike for me + two kids

For the longest time I rode a Gazelle T10+, which I had rigged with a MacRide on front and a cheap padded seat on the rear rack. Loved the bike, especially the Bosch drivetrain which never gave me any trouble, and we rode a lot of singletrack on it, but the medium was too tall for me, especially with the MacRide bar adding to the inseam, and having to be careful not to kick the kid off the back when getting on and off. And then my younger one outgrew the MacRide, so I sold it.

Now we do some biking together but sometimes we go through trafficy places where I'd feel a lot more comfortable if I didn't have to stay aware of two separate kids on two separate bikes. I was thinking about getting a mixte Gazelle and jerry-rigging a long seat on the rear rack, but now I see there are a lot more options out there.

My kids are now 8 and 10, and roughly 60 lbs each. I probably don't have a LOT of time left but I suspect I might have another couple years since they're skinny. Riding is mostly flat but some hills and some singletrack. I'm not sure how I feel about the big bucket bikes, I was initially envisioning something more like the long rear rack to seat both of them in the back - and that seems more 'bikey' than... boaty? OTOH having them up front does seem like more fun!

I'm wide open for recommendations. Priorities are (relative) nimbleness, normal bike parts as much as possible, class 3 if available, but I also haven't ridden anything except normal bikes, so I wouldn't know if any of these are dealbreakers. I see that the Trek Fetch bikes are on sale.. the +2 is $3k and the +4 is $5k. I also see used 2019 Benno Boost that has a 400wh battery for $1900. Price seems kinda high considering I bought my Gazelle for 2200 used and then sold it for 1650. Overall my budget is, let's say, around 3k but can be stretched if it's really really worth it in some way.

(Oh yeah and this was my old ride https://imgur.com/a/wWviamd )

Trying to learn yosegi and getting some fun blanks out of it

(Also inspired by someone who posted here a while ago who I believe had a padauk/maple combo segmented checkered turning.)

Who else enjoys their super slow summers?

I suppose the private practice folks do anything to avoid it, but for me, as an employee, slow summers are glorious. I see something like 6-10 kids a day, have all in the time in the world to catch up on reading and surfing.

Muji shirts - men's sizing compared to US

I typically wear a size M in the US.

I'm looking at all their stand collar shirts (such as https://www.muji.us/products/mens-washed-oxford-stand-collar-long-sleeve-shirt-ac20q24a ), and if I go by the sizes listed (see below) I would be picking size XS.

Does this sound right? Go down two whole sizes? My instinct is to go down one, but I'm really not sure.

...but they have OM instead? WTF?

No cough rhinorrhea fever, but also no drainage or pain w manipulation of ear.

And they turn out to have isolated OM. Not raging, but w effusion/opacification + erythema. Am I missing something?

Constant growing/creaking from front end

Edit: constant GROANING/CREAKING not growing.

The entire front suspension was replaced 1-2 years ago, I got new OEM shocks, OEM arms, new OEM rubber everywhere. Also has a replacement used steering rack from another LS. Recently had an alignment which seemed to cause a previous slight creak to get worse. Slow speed turns and bumps cause creaks or groans with any suspension activation. I tried silicone lube on the sway bar bushings, and initially seemed to help a little, but then it came right back. So then I applied a good amount of silicone grease all around the sway bar bushings, and it did not help at all. Some of it seems to be weather-dependent, when it's newly hot there seems to be much less noise.

Ideas?

Board with less than 1/16th bow over 6' - okay to glue up?

I have three 6' x 6" boards that I want to use for a desktop of final dimensions 6' x 16.5".

I have already face- and edge-jointed them, but the thinnest (7/8") has a bow that is approximately ~5-7/128th. It easily reduces to nothing with downward pressure.

I am trying not to lose too much further thickness, because the target thickness is 3/4". The other two boards are much thicker at ~1".

Can I just go ahead and plane all three down to just above 3/4" and edge glue them up with this slightly bowed board in the middle? I feel like if I use cauls I should be able to get it pretty flat, and glued on both sides it would remain so. Am I wrong?

NTD - Veritas low angle jack with 4x PMV-11 blades

Wasn't a steal, but at $280, I think it was a good deal! My first modern plane. Excited to finally try a shooting board!

Next time they release Rakuten coupons? Is it predictable?

It seemed for a while they were regularly doing 10-15% off coupons on JDirect and the other main sites - but I don't know if they have a set schedule or is it usually around certain times?

Just waiting to pull the trigger on something from Rakuten...

Seller's box is way too large

I'm getting an amplifier, that is roughly 17 x 15 x 7" in size, and the box they have sent it in is 30 x 17 x 22 (75 × 41 × 56 cm). This is crazy, and shipping would cost 40,000 JPY. It's only one package so I can't apply for consolidation. Any idea what I need to do?
