g7ctl Updated - Big Update for the Linux G7 Pro app

2 Weeks ago I posted here about developing a config app for the Gamesir G7 Pro and its variants. Today I am happy to report we have released version 0.2.0 with everything from Nexus exposed in our library set and UI

All features now implemented:

Stick config with custom curves
Motion config tests working on KDE for mouse and stick emulation
Battery level reporting
Read/Write access via wired and wireless dongle
Triggers config with custom curves
Dock config options
Vibration tab will all controls exposed
Complete button binds config with shift support
Full import/export support for saving configs
Full support for onboard profiles
Polling rate

Some per tab edge case features still undergoing testing but this update puts the app at about a 98% analog with Nexus on Windows all from the comfort of your Linux install.

I've had a couple suggestions that I should expand support to other Gamesir controls and the simple answer is Id love to!... But I only have a Gamesir G7 Pro to test on. However currently, the protocol should be able to support any controller in the Nexus family. That is: if you use Nexus to configure your controller under Windows then support is technically already here. Right now the app/libs hardware detection is only filtering for the G7 Pro but with a little community help we could "more than likely" extend support to the rest of the controllers in the family which gamesir lists as the following controllers:

G7 Pro, G7 SE, G7 Pro Zenless Zone Zero Edition , G7 Pro Dragon's Dogma 2 Edition , G7 Pro WUCHANG Edition , T7 Pro Floral , T7 Pro Sugar Whirl , Tarantula Pro for XBOX, T7 , Kaleid , Kaleid Flux.

Again support for these controller should technically be possible although the app is currently only filtering for the G7 Pro family. If you have one of the controllers listed above and would like to help... please reach out! With some basic info about your controller we may could get other controllers working in the next couple versions.

g7ctl: A simple app for the G7 Pro

Last month I posted here questioning our wonderful users here about their favorite controller for Linux gaming and got lots of great replies. I ended up purchasing a Gamesir G7 Pro and I absolutely love it!

What I don’t love is adjusting button bindings and/or stick configs in a VM lol. So I set out to reverse engineer the protocol used by Gamesir Nexus to communicate with the G7 pro and I am happy to report I am approx 90% complete in that goal👏 and have produced an app that works for me as a daily driver.

As a thank you to the good folks here that shaped the decision I’d like to share what I’ve built:

You will find the repo on GitHub here with instructions in the readme for quick installation in Arch based distros or via pip. It ships as a lib, gui and a cli interface and detailed info on the protocol can be found in PROTOCOL.md on the repo.

Enjoy! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions

Linux Gamers: Controller options?

Subject says it all….

What good controller options do we have under Linux? I prefer something XBox form factor but I’ll never buy another Microsoft controller as they are 70$ disposable POS imo.

I currently have a Gamesir Nova Lite and it’s… quirky at best.

The Flidigi Vader 5s, Gamesir G7 SE and G7 Pro are all attractive options but I’d like to hear some real world experiences.

I’ve been working on a tiny build inspired by the MH6-Littlebird. A small, quick light attack and recon craft. This build was done 100% in the Base Builder app and includes the following utilities.

Base Teleporter (TazMD Prefab)

10 Storage cubes

2 refiners

Signal Booster

Planetary Scanner

Trade terminal

Mission Radar

Multitool Archive

Health and Hazard stations

Working Beam up/down

Individually operated side doors

The build itself is tiny…. Barely bigger than a cockpit and walkway without the tail section. Super fast and agile it has become one of my favorite ships. It comes in just over 200 parts so 100% Anomaly and console safe.

I’ve learned so much from this community I wanted to give a little sneak peak and see if there is any interest here. Special thanks to Aresmar and TazMD for a multitude of borrowed design notes and TazMD’s app and prefabs. If there is interest I’ll release the full json and get it over to the ship service Hope you guys love this little build as much as I do!
