What are the origins of “Living in the Country” by Pete Seeger?

As the title asks, can anyone shed any light on the origins of this song? The internet seems to suggest it is a Seeger original. However, I have a strong memory of listening to a recording, maybe a decade ago, where he describes being held up in bed w a sinus infection and transcribing some African Choral music onto guitar to occupy himself. He then preceded to play [“Living in the Country”](https://youtu.be/KXIh8NhMNDo?is=SdKv1dfs5HogTU1j)

Now, while this was a long time, it was particularly memorable because I myself had a bad sinus infection at the time and was listening to Pete in the shower, desperately trying to open my sinuses up hahah. Of course now I have been looking for this recording for years and can’t even find a reference to it online. Was the whole thing a fever dream? Mandela effect (just joking.)

Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks in advance. I’m interested to hear whatever anecdotes people might have of the tune.

M38. Leg raise x 12. *Form Check*

Trying to go as slow as I can, but I’m definitely still using some momentum. How much momentum is too much? Does it really matter? Am I just majoring in the minors? My only goal is overall health and fitness.

Father and son boy dinner…

Orzo with chicken sausage. The smaller plate was for my 2 yr old. Made pretty much the same dinner for him last week and he loved it. This time he took one bite and spit it out lol. Not pictured: the 6 Dino nuggets and ketchup he actually ate for dinner. 😇

*Also: I know this isn’t exactly healthy, but it’s at least pretty well rounded. Not fancy enough for the fancy tag and not particularly high effort for me either. Also mom is in the picture, she was just nursing a cold. Spoiler I have it now

Edit: here’s a loose recipe to follow.

Add one star anise, 1 bay leaf and a piece of cardamom to the olive oil and allow flavors to release for a min. Sauté red onion, garlic and carrots until cooked. I usually grate the carrots instead of chopping them. Pro tip, keeping the lid on for a period helps break down the onions faster. Then deglaze pan w some cheap white wine (I keep it in the fridge just to cook with.) Once all the fond (brown stuff) is off the bottom of the pan and wine is cooked off, add orzo and toast for a min. This is also when I add frozen peas and corn because my son likes them in everything. I also added a tablespoon of better than bouillon which added a lot of richness. Toss in a handful of cherry tomatoes. Then add low sodium chicken stock. Once the stock reaches a boil, lower to a simmer until orzo is cooked.

Once it’s cooked, turn off the heat and add some Parmesan to add more flavor and give it a creamy texture. I also had some fresh spinach that was ready to go so I folded it at the end as well.

I cooked the sausage in the oven because I like it crispy, but cooking it in the same pot before adding the orzo is probably delicious.

This is a quick 20-30 min weeknight dinner. Don’t let it sound intimidating. You don’t need the spices in the beginning, but man are they versatile and add a lot of flavor to everything. Add whatever veggies etc you have on hand. This can be a fridge/ freezer/ pantry cleaner. It’s great as leftovers in a salad the next day.

I had a lot of fun with this circuit. Finished in 15:24 and some time was eaten up setting up the camera lol. This was the 8th round. Funny enough rounds 9 and 10 were a struggle bus and I got the last pull up by the hair on my chin.

Another user posted the other day about a DJ circuit, 15 swings, 3 pull ups, 5 dips. I did it in 18 min and came back to thank him. We talked about doing a squat variation and considering I’m doing high ish volume swings in my off days I gave it a shot. Maybe I’ll do 8 squats next time.

My favorite thing about circuits like this is that there is always one exercise that feels like active rest. In the case of these it was the swings the other day and the squats today.

I haven’t had consistent access to a pull up or dip bar in a few years so this is a nice way of getting some volume in while I get back into the movement and work on my GPP. I’m admittedly pretty deconditioned at the moment so this feels really good. Also out the door in 15ish min is nice.
