Tyre newbie looking for recommendations and advice

Newbie here, looking for some advice and recommendations regarding tyres for my 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback.

I’ve owned the car for around two years, and this will be my first time replacing the tyres. Up until now, I’ve been driving on a set of Goodyear all-weather tyres that came with the car from the previous owner. Now I want to make sure I choose the right setup.

Two models in particular seem to receive a lot of praise online — the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06+. However, both are US-market all-season tyres, and I live in Europe.

Our climate is somewhere between continental and transitional Mediterranean. Summers can occasionally exceed 40°C in July and August, while winters can drop to around -10°C during colder periods, especially in January when we do get proper snow. I don’t drive much during winter, but I usually make a couple of longer trips in December–January.

Because of that, I’m leaning more towards investing in a dedicated summer and winter setup rather than using all-season tyres year-round.

For the summer setup, I’m currently trying to decide between:

  • Continental UltraContact
  • Michelin e.Primacy
  • Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2
  • Bridgestone Turanza 6

Which one would you personally choose and why?
Many thanks!

Tyres advice and recommendations needed

Hi folks,

Newbie here looking for some advice and recommendations regarding tyres for my 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback.

I’ve owned the car for about two years, and this will be my first time replacing the tyres. Up until now, I’ve been driving on Goodyear all-weather tyres that came with the car from the previous owner. Now I want to make sure I choose the right setup moving forward.

I’ve noticed that two models in particular seem to get a lot of praise here - Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 and Continental ExtremeContact DWS06+. Both are all-season tyres, but I’m struggling to decide on the best strategy given the climate where I live — Bulgaria (south-eastern Europe).

Our climate is somewhere between continental and transitional mediterranean. Summers can occasionally exceed 40°C in July and August, while winters can drop to around -10°C during colder periods, especially in January when we can get proper snow. I don’t drive much in winter, but I usually make a couple of longer trips during December–January.

Because of that, I’m wondering if a high-quality all-season/all-weather tyre (such as the Continental DWS06+) is enough for these conditions? Or would it be wiser to invest in dedicated summer and winter tyre sets?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people living in a similar climate. What’s your approach, and what has worked best for you?
