BS Computer Science

Help a girl out :-) I am an incoming freshman torn between pursuing pursuing BSCS here in BSU or BSHE in UPLB. I also qualified for the DOST scholarship.

What are your thoughts on pursuing BSCS in this day and time?

UPLB BS Human Ecology or BatSU BS Computer Science (+ DOST Scholarship)

Hello! I am an incoming freshman who qualified in UPLB BSHE and BSU BSCS.

In terms of my interest in the degree program, I wouldn’t mind studying any of the two. I’ve been exposed to coding pretty early in my high school years. The field is highly competitive though. You need to be the best of the best to stand out. I took STEM in senior high school, but I have always been a humanities girl by heart. I want to connect with and gain a deeper understanding of the community, especially the Filipino people. Seeing the exposure of BSHE students to various communities and places piqued my interest when I was doing my research about degree programs during the app szn. #layas Anyway, I just want to say na ang ganda ng CHErished merch nila wowerz

In terms of the environment, UPLB IS THE DREAM TALAGA. No further explanation for this. I rest my case. Thank you.

On a serious note, I cannot survive in an environment with barely any trees in sight (wow feeling). But for real though, I’ve been surrounded by nature all throughout my life in my hometown. I see and hear the sound of birds chirping every single day. I also take occasional walks/jogs and I want to live up to my fantasy of going on walks in elbi :( As a solo commuter, hirap na hirap ak mag-commute pa-Batangas plz lang. Ride to LB: 1 bus + 1 jeep. Ride to Alangilan: 2 buses + 1 jeep + 1 tric. I will be dorming, but if ever I want to go back home, wg n lang umuwi kung ganyan kahirap ang commute ma,,,

Since I’m interested in both programs naman, kung university ang pagpipilian, UP na talaga. It took me a month to decide because I knew I had to be pragmatic, but I finally decided to settle with UP. But then, nangyari ang plot twist ng pre-college journey ko: the results for the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship came out, and I qualified. I didn’t even watch the live stream because when they announced na ngayong batch ang may lowest passing rate so far, tinanggal ko na sa isip ko ang DOST LOL. Tbh, nagwi-wish ako na sana hindi ako makapasa, because it would result in the forfeiture of my slot in UP since BSHE is not recognized under the priority programs of the scholarship huhu. Boogsh, another dilemma haunts me.

I tried to appeal through the QA in hopes of changing my program to a priority one. Unfortunately, I retained my slot in my current degree program. I did try for manual appeals, pero hindi na para mag-expect ako ulit... I know how slim the chances are.

In terms of my personal circumstances, I am not well-off, so having the scholarship will be a huge help. However, being given the opportunity to study in one of the top performing universities in the country is something I simply cannot let go of. I am the first in my family to pass the UPCAT and would be the first to enter UP if ever I decided to push through with my enrollment.

Should I pursue UPLB or make use of the scholarship by pursuing BatSU?

What do you guys think?

UPLB Manual Appeal

Hello! I am a qualifier in UPLB.

If I end up not enrolling in my current degree program, will that affect/void my application for the manual appeals or is it completely independent of my current status in the university?

Thank you so much!

[UPLB] Manual Appeals as a DOST-SEI Undergrad Scholarship Qualifier

Should I take the risk of losing my DOST Undergrad Scholarship by proceeding with my enrollment under a non-prio program?

I am currently enrolled in another state university under BSCS which is a priority program of DOST, but I am willing to pull out if ever I pursue UPLB. I had to force myself to enroll because I had already set an appointment before the UPCAT results came out because of the FCFS basis. My thinking at the time of my enrollment was that I will be cancelling my enrollment if ever my request to change my degree program to a priority one was successful during the QA. Unfortunately, I retained my slot in my current degree program.

I wouldn’t mind studying CS for practicality and to make use of the scholarship, but to be honest, I really don’t want to study in the university I’m currently enrolled in. I cannot imagine living in an environment with barely any trees in sight with the extreme scorching weather + the commute is truly a hassle.

I do want my current degree program in UPLB, but I’ll be really grateful if I can change my program to a priority one so that I won’t have to let go of my scholarship.

I am not well-off, so having the scholarship will be a huge financial help, but being given the opportunity to study in one of the top performing universities in the country is not something I can simply let go of; especially because I will be the first family member to enter UP if ever I decided to push through with my enrollment.

I will be applying to the MA, but I cannot really expect because I know how slim the chances are. This is a huge risk I’ll be taking, but I’m honestly willing to take it.
