Sense checking quotes for a battery, solar system for a family friend
Hi everyone,
I am helping a family neighbour evaluate a first set of solar and battery quotes. Their current peak daily usage is around 10 kWh/day. They are planning to install a heat pump in the future, but in the interim, they are considering running their house on ceramic core electric heaters instead of their existing LPG system.
Their budget is £12,000 – £15,000, so some higher quotes would require negotiation.
I’d love to get the community's thoughts on a few points:
- Panels vs. Inverter/Battery: Research suggests that premium solar panels aren't always worth the price markup, and it is better to invest more into the inverter and battery system. What is the consensus on this?
- Tesla Powerwall 3 vs. EcoFlow: I understand the Tesla Powerwall 3 is a solid system (despite my personal reservations about their CEO), but I haven't used EcoFlow products for home storage. How do they compare in real-world use?
- Criteria: The key metrics we are weighing these quotes against are Value for Money and Ease of Use (almost set and forget).
Any advice on these system options or the heating approach would be greatly appreciated!
