Switching to Makita

Hey everyone, I’m a trim carpenter in the US. I’ve always used Dewalt but my tools all got stolen recently and I’m currently using my beater/at-home Ridgid set while I decide on what my work set is going to be. I’ve settled on Makita and am wondering what you think the best options are for everything. I’m prioritizing lighter weight and don’t need just crazy power since I exclusively do trim. Currently looking to pick up a drill and impact, 6 1/2” circular saw and multi-tool. Will also want a random orbit and palm router soon.

Edit- meant to say random orbit sander and palm *router*.

Water heater drain pipe trim

Doing trim in some not particularly expensive new construction rental townhomes. I always like doing little things like this. I tend to think just punching through with a hole saw looks tacky.

Help with pants

Hey everybody, I’m a trim carpenter and I pretty exclusively wear double knees to work in. I wear a 30x34 so I’m really thin and B01s look crazy on me. I have a pair of Rugged Flex BN3334-M that are my absolute favorite pants; I wear them constantly because I much prefer the heavier canvas of them as compared to like the Rigby or something. The only problem is other pairs of them I’ve found haven’t felt nearly as heavy. Someone please help me lol

Getting into chainsaw milling

Hey everybody, like the title says I’m wanting to get into chainsaw milling and am looking for advice. I have 5 saws but only my 365 is close to capable of the job. I think ideally I’d like to get something like a 395 for a dedicated milling saw and use my 365 for felling. I’ll be cutting primarily pecan and mesquite.

Does anyone recognize these pipe jaws?

They measure 2 3/4 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/8. I got them from the same place I got my C3 but these obviously aren’t for it.

$175 Estate Sale C3

I posted a cropped photo of this C3 the other day. I didn’t know what they were going to be asking and the pipe jaws seemed to be missing. Well I picked it up today for $175 and found the pipe jaws in a toolbox.

Thoughts on model?

I can’t ask the seller because it’s an estate sale and they aren’t taking questions before the sale starts. Do we have any thoughts on model for this? It looks massive in comparison to the utility knife on the base.

My very first leatherworking project from 7 years ago. Not pretty but it’s still holding up to everyday use

Quick and dirty loft apartment landing

Trimming like 60 of these loft apartments/townhomes. Builder wanted them done as basic and fast as possible (obviously, they’re rentals) but I’m having fun with these landings

Reed-Prentice Late

My wife and I bought our first house and since then I’ve been looking for a lathe. A friend of mine texted today and said I could get this 14” Reed-Prentice for essentially next to nothing. It was built in 1942 and runs well apparently. My friend’s dad is just downsizing and wanting to get rid of it. It was a US Navy engine room lathe in WWII which is pretty cool. Opinions?

Occidental Finisher Opinions

Is anybody using the Oxy Finisher bags? Fixing to pull the trigger but just wanting some opinions. Specifically wondering about the front mounted metal hammer loop which worries me a bit.
