What's your most surprising BIFL purchase?

Over 25 years ago, I bought a random Infiniti hair dryer for my mom and sister for $19.99 at a drug store. It has changed hands over and over in my family, but it has seen pretty constant daily use since it was first purchased. Most recently, it has been in my house for the past ~15 years, and my family continues to use it every day.

I don't think Infiniti even exists anymore. I certainly wasn't expecting much when I paid $20 for it in ~1999. But here we are around 27 years later, and it still runs just like it did when I bought it.

That got me thinking... what's something you bought with low expectations, but it ended up being BIFL?

Anyone have a lead on a KD Gunwerx damper kit?

I'm not looking to break any rules here, just looking for help.

I went to purchase a KDGunwerx Stribog short stroke buffer / damper kit, and he told me that they're sold out and he has no plans to make any more. Huge bummer!

Does anyone know of any other retailers that sell them? Searching hasn't yielded any results and I already posted on gafshub.

Appreciate your help

UPDATE: He got better pricing from his machinist and they're now available again on his site.

Stribog SP9 A3S - first AOW couldn't have gone smoother

First of all, HUGE thanks to u/2Agunshop in Butler for helping me with my first AOW. Greg was awesome — he did all the work and made the process a breeze.

Craziest part was I was approved 22 hours after submitting the form. We were optimistically expecting it to take ~10 days since it's my first AOW, so seeing it come through in less than a day was nuts.

As for the Stribog, I'm absolutely loving it so far. It's easily the softest shooting PCC I've handled, and that was before I installed the HBI buffer this morning. Incredible bang for the buck.

In addition to the HBI buffer, I also installed their extended bolt stop, safety selector switch, and trigger spring kit. My trigger was 6.5-7 lbs from the factory. New pull weight is 4-4.5 lbs and it feels perfect. OEM collapsible brace is on the way, but I'm kind of wishing I waited for the Ember Armory brace that's due out in a few weeks.

[Other] Vaultek Smart Station, Lifepod 10, RS Slider - btwn $30-$300 off

Just came across Vaultek's July 4th sale, which has some pretty decent deals all over 20% off.

Highlights for me are $50 off the pistol slider and $300 off the rifle slider (RS). I don't think I've ever seen that one discounted before but I could be wrong. It's actually $350 off if you bundle it with a Lifepof but I think bundles are always $50 cheap so maybe they didn't count that?

Also, it's not listed on the sale page but the base model LifePod 10 is on sale for $110 in a bunch of different colors.

What are some compact VFGs that comes in FDE?

Just got a Stribog A3S that currently has a BCM vfg on it, but I prefer to hold the rail/magwell. Looking for a vfg that takes up less rail space so there’s more room to grip, but I’m having trouble finding good FDE options.

The smallest one I could find seems to be the Troy modular model, but it’s out of stock everywhere (not to mention the price).

Anyone know any good options that take up minimal rail space?
