Bicycle shop recs?

Moved here a few months ago and my bike needs regular maintenance and probably new tubing & tires. Looking for bike shops in the area that aren’t douchey to women. Preferably within the 485 loop but willing to go a bit past that to Pineville, Ballantyne, or Ft. Mill. Thanks!

Bustle suggestions for this dress?

Hi all,

This is my dress and I’m in love with it. I’m curious if anyone has recommendations for bustles that would look nice given the skirt is very plain and any bustle buttons or fasteners would be visible. I like the ballroom bustle look, but not sure how that one works. The dress is only 1 layer (technically double layered, satin on the inside).

I know the slit can pose a challenge with bustles as well.

My wedding is next summer so I have plenty of time. Have not spoken to any seamstresses of course. When I ordered they said there was a backlog of several months, and then it arrived within 3 weeks. Didn’t expect to have it for over a year!

Can’t sleep since starting Slynd

I switched it Slynd last week after Nikki (generic Yaz) gave me one of the worse migraines of my life.

For the last couple of days I CANNOT sleep. It is 2:30am and my mind will not shut off. I had to call out of work yesterday because I got an hour of sleep the night before.

Google told me it’s not a common side effect, but I’ve seen it mentioned in forums here and here. Anyone else deal with severe insomnia since taking Slynd? I haven’t lasted a week on the pill and I’m calling it quits. This is intolerable.

Haven’t worn makeup in over 15 years, is this normal/safe to use?

Please forgive me if this is a simple question. It’s been a long time since I’ve worn makeup. I searched Reddit but I found posts asking about makeup trays people have had for a while. This is BRAND NEW just purchased. I assume it is due to the wax in the ingredients? It is very hot today and I carried it with me store to store rather than leave it in my car. It’s a cream bronzer.

Frustrating experience with a new salon

There’s no “vent” flair which would be more appropriate. I am open to perspectives and suggestions, though.

I recently moved to a new state, to an area with much more diversity and more Black stylists. But I really loved the one I had in my old city. I am natural and the only heat I use is on low from the blow dryer. My hair is very long, to mid back/bottom of shoulder blades. I used to go every 2 weeks for a basic wash and blow dry. Then I would do 2 strand twists until my next appointment. I am happy with this and my hair is healthy. I have tightly coiled hair.

Fast forward to now. I go to a new salon and I had to emphasize a few times that I only wanted a wash & blow dry (it was also trim time). As soon as she started I could tell the heat was way hotter than I use at home and what my old stylist used. But since I need a trim, I didn’t say anything until after. Nbd except it did hurt a few times on my scalp from the heat.

When I asked for next time, between trims, to have less stretched hair & less heat, stylist was confused. She said “my job is to get it straight”. I emphasized I wasn’t looking for a blow OUT, just to have my hair dried so I could do what I want with it. I don’t use mousse or any other products except moisturizing + oil, and now my hair can’t even hold twists from how straight my hair is. I left feeling frustrated and unheard.

I know it’s only one time and it wasn’t as severe as a Dominican blow out (I had it before as a kid and my hair broke off BADLY), but I can’t stop worrying about heat damage. Even at the salon everyone was amazed and commenting on how significant my shrinkage was. Yeah because I don’t put heat on it like that!

What do y’all think? Should I try again and maybe try to explain better what I want? I told her I could show pictures so she can visualize and she said she didn’t need pictures. That she would use a different brush instead. IMO the brush isn’t the problem, the heat level is. There was steam/smoke coming off my head!

To give additional context to why this is so upsetting: I have lupus. Thankfully have not had the kind of problems others have but at any moment that could happen. (I couldn’t post unless I removed the phrase hair “loss”?). So proper hair care is even more important to me. If my hair breaks off or gets heat damage, it may not recover or grow out well again. And in the past I’ve had fades and TWAs for years by choice, so this is not about “vanity”.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I feel a bit better just getting this out of my head.

Wedding hairstyle ideas for natural hair?

I’m getting married last year and wear my hair natural—it’s either in twists or twist out/puff ponytail. I don’t want to straighten my hair, get a crochet style, or wear a wig. I don’t experiment that much with different styles so coming up with ideas on my own, let alone something that can withstand summer heat & humidity, has been a challenge.

For those who’ve gotten married or been a bridesmaid, what kind of natural style did you have? Bonus if you have pics you feel comfortable sharing (face obscured!) so I can visualize it or use as inspo with HMUA.

Thanks!

Edited to add: Realized this would have been helpful to include—my hair is past my shoulders when blown out, close but not quite down to the bottom of my shoulder blades.

Not looking for advice, just commiseration. We’ve been so excited (and stressed) about planning and making it affordable since the two of us are financing the whole thing. We both have single parents & our families are not swimming in money. Just as we told the venue we want to book and change the day from Sunday morning to Saturday night in 2027 (off peak), we find out the price for Saturday night has DOUBLED for the venue. So instead of the $1700 increase we expected and budgeted for, to move to Saturday it would be $5,000 more. We chose to move the date since we half the guests are flying from across the country.

I’m just very shocked and sad, because Saturday evening would work better for our families and now we either need to start from scratch and pick another venue, or move back to Sunday morning.

If anyone else has gone through this I’d appreciate hearing how you dealt with this rollercoaster of emotions. I welcome any and all support and encouragement.
