Grimm Hoppy Nothing
Generally very light and hoppy, but with a distinctly soapy chemical flavor that was quite off-putting. Glad I tried it but I wouldn’t order it again. 3.5/10

Just wondering if I'm lucky enough to find someone willing to part with a Sukenari migaki HAP40 gyuto. If you have one in a box gathering dust I'll give it a loving home!
Located in US btw.
Hello my knerds. There are a couple knives I’m looking at right now (Sukenari and Yoshimitsu Kajiya specifically) that aren’t really tall enough for me in the 240 length but the 270 looks almost perfect.
I would love to hear from anyone who’s tried a 270 and what your experience was like. Does that put the tip too far away from your grip or did you end up finding it surprisingly comfortable? Any insight is appreciated, TIA!
Just finished Stonewielder yesterday, what a conclusion! Very thrilling climax and even more tidbits of lore than I was even expecting, the last 60 pages were just splendid.
I really enjoyed this one and I’m happy to see ICE’s writing improve, this felt far less awkward and clumsy than NoK or RotCG.
However, I still find his writing at this point in the NotME rather obtuse and I frequently am left wondering what the hell just happened. When Erikson withholds information from me I feel drawn in by the mystery of it, he has a way of trickling out the relevant details and delivering plot points in a sideways manner that I mostly find titillating and engaging.
The way ICE handles that same device, on the other hand, often feels frustratingly opaque, almost like he doesn’t have a firm enough grasp on what information I have or have not been given so far to deftly wield that same weapon of intentional obfuscation. I find myself constantly going back to look for something I missed and being unable to find it. And the sheer magnitude of loose threads that he leaves dangling I find overwhelming, so that when the relevant detail I’ve been waiting for is finally delivered I’ve forgotten that I was waiting for it. Instead of saying “aha!” I find myself saying “huh?”
As a result I was left with a lot of questions that I’m hoping my fellow Malazafans can help me answer:
Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated, TIA!
Pro Tools keeps analyzing the wrong tempo for my loops and not being able to audition loops at my session's tempo is really interfering with my production workflow. How can I manually adjust the tempo of a loop in the workspace?
Example: Drum loop clearly labeled at 100 bpm, session is at 90 bpm, but PT analyzes the tempo of the loop to be 135.684 bpm and auditions/stretches it incorrectly. I have already tried re-analyzing the file and it analyzes it incorrectly every time.

Just got this stone in the mail yesterday and I am utterly perplexed. I've heard some people say that these need to be broken in and have the top layer of resin abraded away before they start performing as advertised (a detail that is conspicuously absent from Nano Hone's website and the Sharpening Supplies product page) but I've tried lapping it with a 400-grit ceramic stone, a 400-grit Atoma diamond plate, and a 140-grit Atoma diamond plate and it's still completely smooth and refuses to cut simple carbon steel.
Am I doing something wrong or do these things just suck?
Nothing but love for Tom Holland but these are surprisingly bad. They all taste kinda similar yet somehow each one has its own unique unappetizing flavor notes. Trying to get through this pack as fast as I can so I can go get more Go Hazy IPA and SN Trail Pass.
Even my cat is trying to stay as far from them as possible. 2.5/10.
The day has come. I finally worked my Gesshin 220 pink brick down to a pink wafer and it no longer peaks above my stone holder even with the shims I made lifting it up. You have served me well, my friend. May you rest in peace.
My replacement stone is already standing by in the permasoak tub, ready for new adventures!
All of these showed up in the last 24 hrs, I usually like to wait to post until I have a chance to use the stones and document the finish they leave but I couldn’t contain my excitement.
From top to bottom:
- Uchigumori bench stone
- Vnat from Zao that’s purportedly similar to Uchigumori
- Vnat from Zao that’s purportedly similar to Shiro suita
- Umegahata Aisa (3.5 hardness)
- Shohonyama fine Aoto
The uchi obviously needs to be lapped which is gonna take a while, but I’ll get a nice sized pile of uchi powder as a reward for my efforts. Photos 2 and 3 show it dry and wet respectively, look at all that renge! Massive thanks to u/pchiggs for helping me track that one down.
The Aisa currently has a toxic line on the sharpening surface but looking at the sides of the stone I think I can lap past it without losing too much height. I bought that one on a whim because the price was right and I was curious about Aisa, time will tell whether or not I find it useful.
The Aoto I’m really excited about, I have two stones from that stratum so far and they could not be more different from each other. One is in the 1-2k range and is great for edges and the other is in the 3-5k range and is a standout polisher. Both are quite narrow and this one is much wider, Ikkyu estimated the grit range to be somewhere around 5k.
A question for the hive mind: what’s your favorite method for sealing stones? I just ran out of the polyurethane spray-on lacquer I’ve been using and while I like how it performs I am curious as to what other folks here are using. I know I don’t have the patience for cashew lacquer, even though it looks beautiful.
I’ll do a more detailed review once I get a chance to test all these out, thanks for reading!
